So I was up last night studing for my new job....and I was watching the Box (it's an all-request music station). And Jay-Z's video, 'Big Pimpin' came on. Well, I was watching it...I LOVE that song *L* don't get me wrong, but then I started thinking. In the video....there's girls in bikini's all over...dancing all provacatively and all. And the guest rappers in there have got, ya know half-pint bottles of liquor and everything and they are just partying it up. And I started thinkin some more (by this time, my head hurts *L*). If I was a mother of a young child, would I want them to see this? Would this be a good role model for my child? HECK NO! *L* Like I said, I love the music....but you look at so many rock, rap and even some country (country isn't half as bad) music videos....and they are just so corrupted *L* So what this all comes down to--I know that almost everybody here...like %99.9, if not %100 of all people here think that Garth is a good role model. I was wondering, who else do you think is a great role model? Krista

Hmmmmmmm....... since you already have all those great opinions... I hoping that YOU'LL be a great role model!!! Maybe you'll be in the position soon to make a difference. You're right though. I think Garth has been a good role model and there are few to be found these days like him.... at least in the entertainment business. Rap seems to be one part of the business where keeping a good image is hard. It almost seems to hurt them. I think Will Smith does a pretty good job... but then again he's often dismissed because he's too soft. IP: Logged |

Snow- Oh! I totally agree! Will Smith is a wonderful role model. And, yeah, he is written off as soft. The thing is, though, I have the world of respct fer him because he is out there with a great image, and great music that lil kids can listen to and their parents don't have to worry about him cussing, talking about killin or shooting or anything. Good point! Krista

Hmmm outside country?Springsteen is definitely a good role model, and has been it for years now *LOL* Now it's getting tough I can't think of any RAP artist that is a good role model, except as Snow say Will Smith, but he is not big enough to carry that load. Oh Marilyn Manson is a GOOD role model Michael Jackson is a good role model for the peadophile community around the world Brian IP: Logged |

What about Sammy Sousa and Mark McGuire. I think they are both good role models. IP: Logged |

Teach I don't think Mark is a good role model I don't think a sportsfigure who boast about how many steroids he take is a good role model. Especially not when you know how dangerous that stuff is But that's just my opinion I would go for a clean sport any time I am looking forward to see what will happen at the olympics with the baseball players Brian IP: Logged |

Jason,McGuire takes an illegal medicament (once again I am not sure of the word - happens a lot tonight ). BUT it is legal in USA, but illegal in the rest of the world. It is the same as the female runner who died last year (forgot her name - not my night at all) was taking. He did say this on TV, and Europe went nutts, as this is known as being extremely dangerous, and may cause heart troubles. Bottom line he don't get those muscles the HARD WAY, but the CHEATING WAY

Jason YES he does Florence Griffith-Joyner died because of that So it has nothing at all to do with the hard way. Brian IP: Logged |

The dietary supplement taken by Mark McGwire is androstenedione or known by users simply as andro. quote: When master homerun hitter Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals publicly acknowledged taking the dietary supplement androstenedione, its sales among young adults increased fivefold. Now, a new study suggests the pills may cause serious side effects by raising hormone levels. Available at health-food stores across the United States, androstenedione, commonly called andro, taken at high enough levels can raise male hormones -- testosterone -- and female hormones -- estrogen, according the study, conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not regulate the sale of andro.
It has not been regulated yet because there are conflicting studies about whether it actually does promote muscle growth. Studies for the most part have shown that when used as recommended as a health food suppliemnt... it is not harmful... but it doesn't do anything to help promote muscle growth either. The thing is ... athletes often don't use the health food store variety. They have it directly injected into the vein or take massive amounts of the pill form. We just don't know enough about it to say yet. I do think it's disturbing that so many young people have followed Mark's example. In his defense... he says he no longer takes it... and he does not promote it. The damage is already done though it seems.

After reading that post... I realized I didn't really clear up the question as to whether he was taking anabolic steroids.Anabolic steroids are a synthetic form of the male hormone testosterone. As of right now Androstenedione is not considered an anabolic steroid... though that could change. A dangerous side effect of Androstenedione is rather surprising. It can actually raise the level of the female hormone estrogen in the body. Higher estrogen levels in men can increase the risk of heart and pancreas problems. The men who took androstenedione also developed changes in blood cholesterol.

*LOL*... I suppose so Brian. It is both a habit of mine and others to call estrogen a female hormone and testosterone a male hormone. The truth is that males have both testosterone and estrogen... and females have both as well. Testosterone is higher in males. Testosterone is largely responsible for muscle development in both males and females. Since males produce more of the hormone... then they are (in the majority of the cases) able to build larger muscle mass than females. Female body builders actually have to work much harder to get the body builder look than males do. Testosterone also promotes the development of secondary male sexual characteristics such as facial hair and deep voices. Too much testosterone can cause serious side effects though... hostile behavior and mood swings being the least of it... not to mention loss of sexual function and the shrinkage of genitalia. NOT a good hormone to abuse for young males. IP: Logged |
