The song "Amazed" by Lonestar is spending its 7th week at #1 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart. This breaks the modern record held by Kenny Chesney ("How Forever Feels") and Tim McGraw ("It's Your Love" and "Just To See You Smile") of 6 weeks at the top. A couple months ago, when Mr. Chesney tied the record with HFF, there was some debate as to whether or not country music is watered down this year. Many people, including myself, didn't feel as if HFF is a 6 week #1 song. I really like the song, don't get me wrong, but I didn't think it was 6 week worthy. So this brings us to the next question. Does "Amazed" deserve to spend 7 weeks at #1? It looks like I may ruffle some feathers with this one, so I want to say in advance I mean no disrespect to anyone here, or anyone I mention. I don't feel "Amazed" is 7 week worthy. I love the song, I think it's one of the best love songs I've ever heard, let me get this straight now. But, for the last 2 or 3 weeks, it hasn't had a bullet, meaning it hasn't gained any airplay, and it has probable lost airplay. Now a couple years ago, and even a couple months ago, if a song at #1 lost some airplay, it was yanked down to #3 or so, as there was heavy competition for the top seed. "Please Remember Me" spent 5 weeks at #1, and just when it peaked out, "Write This Down" wasted no time in dethroning PRM. Same thing happened with WTD and A. These songs were storming up the charts while their respective predecessor reigned at the top. What song is storming up the charts now, while "Amazed" is at #1? Well, none of the top 4 songs on the chart gained any airplay. In fact, probably the next #1 song will be the Dixie Chicks' "Ready To Run", unless "Lesson In Leavin'" by Jo Dee Messina takes over by default, meaning "Amazed" loses more airplay than LIL, landing it a #1 spot. I think "Amazed", unlike HFF, is worthy of 4 or 5 weeks at #1, maybe even 6 weeks, but 7 weeks is a little rediculous. Remember, "The Dance", arguably Garth's greatest song spent a grand total of 2 weeks at #1. "Friends In Low Places", Garth's signature song, and most successful in terms of chart success, spent 4 weeks at #1 and these are some of the greatest songs of our times. "Amazed" is showing plenty signs of fatigue, but no one else is offering to relieve it of #1 duties. The less good songs that are out, the more the good ones are magnified. I don't mean to sound biased, being a Tim McGraw fan, but "Please Remember Me" is a darn good song, one Tim's best ever perhaps, and I think it deserved to stay at #1 for 5 weeks no matte what year it is. But I did not feel that "Write This Down" was worthy of spending 4 weeks at #1. Once again, I really like the song, and it is a 1 or 2 week #1 song, which leads me to conclude that the success of a sinlge is all about timing. How can "Amazed" spend 7 maybe more weeks at #1, and yet Andy Griggs' "You Won't Ever Be Lonely" not even reach #1, yet miraculously it is still in the top 25. And I can't turn on the radio without hearing "Lesson In Leavin'", yet if fell victim to being released at the same time as "Amazed". Same with "I'll Think Of A Reason Later" and "Two Teardrops". Those songs I didn't particularly care for very much, since it seemed they played them ever hour, but they are still good songs but both never reached #1. And yet 4 of the last 5 #1's have spent at least 4 weeks at the top. Go figure. So what are some other opinions? Is country music watered down this year? This concludes my monthly column about country music

Hey t.m. fan

Nice to have you back
Hmm, Amazed must be a d... good song since it can spend more weeks at #1 than PRM & WTD
I haven't heard A, but I have heard several songs in the past who I think have deserved more than 7 weeks at #1, especially songs from Garth's first 3 albums

HEY.. I AGREE WITH YOU.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to the song Amazed. It's a great song and I really like it, but I don't think it is a 7 times No.1 song. Personally I don't really care for the radio charts anymore. Look at Garth's career and Shania. HELLO? Do you think they need No.1 singles to prove that they can sell? I don't think so. ((sorry for being very opinionated here)) I had enough from the radio stations these days when real No.1 material doesn't get enough play. Look at "The Dance" and "FILP", both songs only stayed on No.1 spot for no more than 4 weeks. Now look how many people know these TWO SONGS! I guarantee that even non-country listeners know "FILP" and maybe "The Dance". As far as Garth's latest 3 singles, I am very disappointed that "You Move Me", "It's your Song (ESPECIALLY THIS ONE!!)) and "Where your roads Lead" didn't even reach to top 2 song

That pissed me off BIG-TIME!!

Just to let you know "You Won't Ever Be Lonely" by Andy Griggs did make it to number one. He was the first new artist to hit the number one spot with his debut single since Clint Black did so ten years ago.

As for Amazed, I think it's a great song and totally deserves to be number 1. However, it is getting a little annoying now, after week 7. I can't stand hearing that song on the radio anymore. I almost want to call in and request that they don't play that song. I never felt that way with "Just to See You Smile" or "How Forever Feels" it never seemed as though they played those songs enough. Yet, every time I turn on the radio I hear "Amazed". Congrats to LoneStar, but enough is enough.

You can be glad you doesn't live here in DK, then you would have to listen to all the dance music over and over again and dance music su€ks
If you buy an album and listen to a song, then you won't have to listen to the others because you have just heard them

Hey Anonymous,

You're right, "You Won't Ever Be Lonely" did make it to #1 on the Radio and Records Chart, but I was referring to the Billboard charts, the "official" chart, where it peaked out at #2. "Please Remember Me" kept it out of the top spot.

Well, I will be the voice of opposition here. I am glad to see "Amazed" at Number One for 7 weeks, and I hope it's there again for Week 8 and Week 9, and so on. And if I was running the charts, "Please Remember Me" would never have gone Number One. Don't get me wrong, I love Tim McGraw's music, but I didn't think that song was that great. I guess it just boils down to our individual musical tastes.

BTW, "You Won't Ever Be Lonely" wouldn't be Top 30 on my charts either. But, I do agree with some of your points, especially the fact that a single's success has a lot to do with the strength of other singles release around the same time.

I used to love the song but now the stations are playing it way too much. It's on over kill. I work as a banquet server and this includes tons of wedding receptions. The newlyweds never use a country song as their wedding song but just the other day "Amazed" was playing as their first song. It sounded good though. Personally, 7 weeks at #1 is too long for this song.

Well now it's #1 at 8 wks.! I'm really happy for this as a Lonestar fan, but as a country fan, the song is starting to get annoying.
