Garth sells out five shows in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Sunday, June 1, 1997
Press Release.
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--June 2, 1997--This past Saturday, fans bought over 73,000 tickets in less than five hours for native son Garth Brooks' upcoming five shows at Driller Park in Tulsa, Okla. on July 17-21.
This sell-out set a new record for the venue; the previous record was 10,200 tickets at a triple-bill concert in 1989 featuring Brooks, Clint Black, and Ricky Van Shelton.
Brooks, who was born in Tulsa and raised in Yukon (outside of Oklahoma City), recently returned from Dublin, Ireland where he performed three sold-out concerts in front of over 120,000 people at Croke Park. These shows, which featured Trisha Yearwood and Susan Ashton as harmony vocalists, will be the basis of a television special airing in 1998.
Upon returning from Ireland, Brooks joined Jerry Seinfield as Jay Leno's guests on Leno's 5th Anniversary as host of ``The Tonight Show'' (May 22). The show won the night with a 7.3 rating/19 share (more than doubling ``Late Night With David Letterman's'' 3.4 rating/9 share). He also celebrated his 11th wedding anniversary with wife Sandy on May 24.
In addition to touring, Brooks continues to prepare for his upcoming free concert in the North Meadow of New York's Central Park on August 7th. The show will be televised live on HBO. Tickets go on sale for Brooks' July 3rd concert at the Myriad in Oklahoma City, Okla. this Saturday, June 7th
