PEORIA, Ariz. How it went for Garth Brooks on Wednesday at spring training for the San Diego Padres:
COUNTRY CAMPER: Brooks pinch-hit against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 10th inning, grounding back to the pitcher with two outs and a runner on first. The Padres won 7-6 in 12 innings.
HIGH NOTE: Brooks had about two-hours of postgame interviews lined up, with media outlets ranging from VH-1 to the Padres' flagship radio station to TV stations from Phoenix and Houston.
ON THE RECORD: Brooks couldn't resist poking some fun at himself during morning batting practice. He was in a group with left-handed pitcher Sterling Hitchcock, who, during a hit-and-run round, blooped a ball into left field and yelled, "That's a knock, that's a knock!" The rest of the players yelled, "No it's not, no it's not." Brooks chimed in, "Yeah, yeah, I think it is ... I was playing left."
