Garth and Trisha to Release Duet "In Another's Eyes" on Yearwood's Upcoming MCA Album
Wednesday, August 13, 1997. Press Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Aug. 13, 1997--Country music has a history of classic duets -- who can imagine country music without the pairings of George Jones and Tammy Wynette or Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, to name just a few.
We can soon add one more duet to the list - Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. The long-time friends have recorded ``In Another's Eyes'' for Yearwood's upcoming greatest hits album, Songbook - A Collection of Hits, on MCA Records. The album is scheduled to be in stores on Aug. 26; the single will be shipped to country radio the week of Aug. 12 and going for adds on Aug. 18; and the video will be released soon. The song was written by Brooks, Bobby Wood, and John Peppard and produced by Allen Reynolds.
Brooks and Yearwood performed the song together live for the first time last night during Yearwood's concert at the Northwestern Washington Fair in Lyndon, Washington. This unannounced appearance by Brooks was his first live performance since his recent Central Park/HBO concert. They will perform the song together again on ``The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'' on Sept. 11.
Unlike some duets where the partners barely know each other, Garth and Trisha have worked together on various projects for years and have always hoped to record a true duet together.
As most fans know, Garth and Trisha were demo singers back in the late '80s before either of them signed record deals. During this time, they became good friends and made plans to record together if they ever had the opportunity. Through the years, they had sung harmony vocals on each other's albums, most notably Garth's hit ``Shameless'' and Trisha's hit ``Like We Never Had a Broken Heart'' (which Garth also co-wrote). They also made several attempts at recording duets, but never felt like they had reached their goal with the results. Finally in 1997, the two found the song they were looking for - ``In Another's Eyes.''
Garth and Trisha's collaborations have not been limited to recorded music only. Trisha was the opening artist for Garth's 1991 tour. This was her first touring experience, and it exposed her and her music to a massive number of fans. In 1997, Garth invited Trisha to sing harmony vocals at his three record-breaking concerts in Dublin, Ireland. These three shows, which had a total audience of over 120,000 people, were filmed for an upcoming television special that is planned to air in 1998.
``After a decade of talking about doing a duet with Trisha, it's finally here,'' said Brooks. In talking about his duet, he went on to say, ``I'm a huge fan of Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, and Celene Dion's voices and I would put Trisha Yearwood's voice in that same category. She could sing the yellow pages and make them sound good.''
``I have a great respect for Garth Brooks as an artist,'' said Yearwood, ``because he is, in the purest sense of the word, a true artist. The music he creates is passionate and from the heart. I admire him because he makes music for all the right reasons. Garth is also one of the most generous friends I know, and I'm proud to be singing this duet with him.''
