2001 People's Choice Nominees Named

PASADENA, Calif. - The trio of heartthrob actors Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks will compete against each other in two acting categories Sunday night at the People's Choice Awards.
The actors' movies, ``The Patriot'' ``Remember the Titans'' and ``The Green Mile'' also dominate the favorite motion picture and favorite dramatic motion picture categories.
Veteran big-screen stars Bette Midler and Geena Davis are up for newcomer awards in the television categories.
Michael Richards and John Goodman also are nominated for performing in new sitcoms - both of which have already been canceled.
The NBC hospital series ``ER,'' which has won seven years in a row, is up again for best television drama.
The 27th Annual People's Choice Awards, the first of the year's many awards shows, will be held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Nominees and winners are selected by a Gallup Organization poll. Organizers of the ceremony did not specify how many people were polled.
