The first song I heard and loved was "Friends in Low Places". However, after that it was anything Garth sang. I loved everything. :)N

It was Much Too Young for me but was completely gone when The Dance came out. Had to have the album & meet Da Man!!! Which I did within a couple months of The Dance being released!!

    And now, I'm glad I didn't know,
the way it all would end, the way it all would go, our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss, the Dance.

    RE: first song/cd

I guess for me it was several at once. Back in July of '92, our local country station did a special of Garth's "13 greatest hits" as they referred to it. It was really all the singles from the first 3 albums out at the time. Anyway, even though I wasn't into country at all at the time, something made me listen to this. I was hooked, and got those first 3 albums shortly after. If it was any one song of those 13 I initially heard, I'd have to say it was "Unanswered Prayers" that most got my attention. But I quickly grew to love them all!

My first album was Garth Brooks and the first song I heard was If Tomorrow Never Comes. I'll never forget it. My grandmother had just passed away a couple months before and I cried my heart out hearing the song. I haven't regretted the ride I've been on since.

Ya know, it's funny...back in '96, there was a huge display of the "Fresh Horses" cover in the record store in the mall. I didn't like country back then, but I always walked by it and thought, "he's really cute...that's a cool cover." lol

Then, I caught a taping of "Ireland and Back" (second half, anyway) and I saw GB in true form. :) I loved every song. And the thing that brought me to tears was the way he sang..."American Pie." go figure. :)

The first time I heard Garth's music was when my dad bought my mom two (2) of his tapes, I was about 7 or 8 and the songs that reeled me in was The Dance and If Tommommow Never Come both off his first album entitled Garth Brooks :)N

    RE: first song/cd

The first Garth song I ever heard that I totally was hooked was Beaches of Cheyenne. I remember riding down the street and it came on for the first time, and I cranked it way up. I guess I would have to say Sevens was the album that got me really hooked. I bought every CD he had after that. Actually, my daughter had all the CDs and I went and bought the Box Set which gave me all the CDs. Then I just bought everything Garth ever did after that.N

The first song I ever heard was FILP. I was spending the week-end at my sister's house and my brother-in-law woke me up by the blasting of the stereo. I said "Who and what are you listening to?" and he said "this is Garth Brooks--he is going to be a mega country star". I was hooked ever since that fateful week-end. I went out and immediately bought every CD he had put out up to that point! :)N

There is something fishy in this thread. Notice how many people double and triple posted? There is a ghost in here. I know I did not double post earlier but...

    RE: first song/cd

Well, for me the story can go two ways - 'cos the song I first remember hearing and knowing it was Garth was back in 1994 when he did Standing Outside The Fire on TOTP (UK chart TV show). I watched it on a black-and-white portable and couldn't take my eyes off him, but couldn't think why - he was attractive, sure, and the song was great - but it was country music, and in England it's practically a criminal offence to like country music. So I watched to the end, enjoyed it - then put it out of my mind.

A couple of years back I saw To Make You Feel My Love on video and remembered who Garth was, but again, it was the hat getting in the way.

Then last September (I'll keep this short because I've told it before and apparently a lot of people think it's funny) I was blown away by a video of a song I'd never seen before, and an artist I'd never heard of before. A month later I found out who Chris Gaines was, bought Lost In You on CD, and now my Garth collection has taken over in my apartment... I didn't intend to buy Garth's country CDs because of the old prejudice, but caught sight of No Fences, noted the similarity in expression to Chris Gaines' cover and was home slotting the CD into my player before I realised what I was doing.

I would have to say either, The Dance or Friends In Low Places, would be what turn me on to Garth. I don't regret a second of the last 10 yrs. or so.

For me, it was the song "Rodeo" and the album "Ropin' the Wind" that made me start paying more attention to Garth. Then, I really became a fan when I saw his TV special "This is Garth Brooks, Too!".

The first song I remember hearing is "The Chase" when I taped the CMA Awards on the radio I heard part of the song and a short interview. I loved the song straight off and was really impressed with the way he spoke in the interview so polite and I agreed with his tolerant views. I thought who is this guy and had to find out more. We don't hear a lot of country music here in the UK unless you actively seek it out but now I am well and truly hooked and of course, Garth is my fav. Garth opened a whole new world for me not only into the wonderful world of country music but also I now have many new friends via post/e-mail/internet and with whom I go to concerts (last saw The Derailers, Brad Paisley, Jo Dee Messina, Ricky Skaggs and Reba on the same bill - what a line up!). Now I've found Planet Garth. It's great.
