an interesting article (minus the glaring error where they credit Stephanie Davis as co writing the thunder rolls with pat Alger ...) ( that could be corrected I'm sure)

has garth been overlooked? No I dont think so. he's a great songwriter, sure- but his songs are not solely his.. he has songwriting credits sure.. and may have done a lot of work..... there are cowriteres though

(yes I know wikipedia isn't the best source but...)

songs that appeared on Garth's albums written solely by him:

    Not counting you (GB)
    Mr Right (TC)

.. now while looking at this, I will say Garth's co-written a large amount of songs on his albums... but of his own ? I saw only 2 that were on albums released by Garth..

what all has he written that's been sung by others? (other than the Gary Allan song "from where I'm sitting"? I know there have been others...

is he a tremendous songwriter? yes.. is he the best entertainer around? absolutely.. but has he been overlooked? No...

The article, I think, was reaching a bit

No, he hasn't been. His great stuff is from the 90s and he's been recognized a 1000 times over. As of lately, what has he written that's been classic? We were all hoping for more after 15 years of retirement.

So garth has 10 albums released. Out of those albums he has

2 - He wrote by himself
    55 - He cowrote
62 - He did not write or cowrite

Fresh Horses was 8 cowrote and 2 he did not
Gunslinger was 10 cowrote and 1 he did not

MAM was 3 cowrote and 11 he did not
Scarecrow was 2 cowrote and 10 he did not.

I don't know how the cowriting thing really works. He said on If tomorrow never comes that he had the ideal and told it to Kent Blazy who belted out half the song on que. Do you get a cowrite if you move a few words around?

On a side note George Strait who is arguably the greatest Country singer of all time did not write any of his songs. So at the end of the day I am glad garth is proud of being a songwriter but it does not add or take away anything I feel about him

And apparently Kenny Rogers didn't write any of his stuff either. So there is something to be said for what he's done.

I am not saying Garth did this but Colonel Parker had it that Elvis got co-write credit. I think it had to do with royalties from the songs. I might be wrong but it doesnt say anything bad about Elvis.

Off the top of my head, he wrote “Which One Of Them” and “American Dream” by himself.

American Dream was co written by Garth Brooks and Jenny Yates

Which one of Them was written by Garth Brooks himself, yes... but it wasn't released as a single... it didnt' appear on the original release of Ropin The Wind...

TECHNICALLY it did appear on a garth album but not until it was a re-released 'bonus' track.... it wasn't an original inclusion
