"The Garth Factor" Book - out in May

I have a friend that works for a book distributor and he called yesterday and told me he had a new Garth book for me, knowing I was a huge fan. I was skeptical at first. How could I have not heard about this? There can't be anything new. Well, it seems there is.

"The Garth Factor" - The Career Behind Country's Big Boom is written by Patsi Bale Cox and is copywrighted for 2009. The copy I have is paperback and says it is an advanced reading copy and will be published in hardback in May 2009. I have only read about a chapter and a half but seems to be legit. It's not an autobiography per se but it does seem to focus on Garth and his career, also highlighting a lot of inner-Nashville stuff and several of the other artists that started around the same time as Garth. But it seems to focus, so far, on how all of these things affected the beginning of Garth's career in Nashville.

The author is said to have co-authored several other Nashville artists autobiographies and is a member of the RIAA. She does state in the acknowledgements that Garth, Bob Doyle and Allen Reynolds gave her open access to archives.

Like I said, I have only read the first chapter and a half, just to get a feel. I guess look for it in your stores in May.

Thanks for the heads up. Amazon shows the release date as May 28 and it's available for pre-order now.

This author is familiar to me. I've read a few books that she's written...Loretta Lynn and Tanya Tucker are two that I actually have.

    Interesting.

From what I have noticed, Patsi Bale Cox has always been a big supporter of Garth's and specifically his transformation of the Nashville machine. I think she's been interviewed on a few of his "specials" and it's obvious she thinks very positively of him.

Hopefully the book is a positive, informative venture.

I've never read the author but I'm not big on biographies. But from what I've read so far, she is very pro-Garth and other artists of that time and those artists that inspired him.
Here are a couple of quotes from the back cover:
"What a great inside look at Garth and the business! There's so much new stuff here it should set Music Row a-buzzing." - Ed Morris, former country music editor of Billboard.

From the summary on back cover:
THE GARTH FACTOR paints a portrait of Brook's rise to fame, shows how his friendship with Trisha Yearwood developed into love and marraige, explores the truth behind his "alter ego" Chris Gaines, and updates readers on what he has been up to since retirement.

Please keep in mind that what I am quoting is from an advanced reading copy and an uncorrected proof.

I'm really looking forward to reading it. So far, so good.

Patsi Bale Cox was in the GAC retrospective on Garth, and her comments about people not 'getting' the Chris Gaines thing was because they were stupid cracked me up. I'm looking forward to this book.

Echoing what Ann's said, Patsi, welcome to PlanetGarth! I'm defintely going to be getting my hands on your book and reading it- should be a fascinating and very interesting read!

    Patsi,

Welcome to our forum. There was a time I did not like country music because it was not cool. Then Garth came along. I started listening to Garth. Then I started listening to other new artists. Then I started loving George Jones, Loretta Lynn, all the Legends, the Grand Ole Opry, and country music history. Now there is no country too country for me! I have read the book Still Woman Enough that you did with Loretta Lynn. It was a great book. I look forward to reading this Garth book as well.

I ordered my copy tonight after seeing your earlier message. I was waiting until it was released to order it, just didn't realized it was being released early. While I was at it, I ordered Trisha's cookbook since I hadn't gotten around to getting that yet.

I pre-ordered mine in March and when I checked the status of my order this weekend, the message said I should receive it by the 16th. Very excited about this one.
