Joshua Gracin does Garth song on American Idol!

Finally American Idol has a country-rock night.... and they lead off with US Marine Joshua Gracin singing Ain't Going Down!!!!!!!

    WhoooooooooooHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

He wasn't Garth... but you gotta give him points for picking a tremendously hard song. Great finish... a little muddy in the middle. Had the black hat and ran all over the stage. You can tell they guy loves Garth!

I'm hoping for another Garth song!

I think Joshua gave a 9 performance. Trenyce came afterwards and I have to agree with Simon that it was the weakest performance she's done. Kimberley Locke was next... and it was good. Nice song... "I can't make you love me"... it sounded country-pop maybe but again I have to agree Simon (bad huh?)... it didn't have anything to do with Country-Rock. Still not as fun as Joshua.

We'll have to see how Clay and Reuben do.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm.......... THIS ISN'T FAIR!

Seems Joshua is the only one that has the guts to do a real country-rock song. Most are these ballads... several aren't country at all. Why bother having the theme.

I'm still having to agree with Simon.... it's all sweet and lovely... but it's not great.

I'm still waiting on Clay and ReuuuuuuuuuuuuBEN though... so there is HOPE!

Kimberlee Caldwell did pretty good. It was a Travis Tritt song... can't remember the title. With her years of experience in Branson she was well prepared for this one. Even Simon liked it. He said that he hadn't been impressed with her before but it changed tonight. I still agree! *lol* Good job Kimberlee.

    The only problem???????

Did anyone see when the camara panned around behind her....... she was scratching her butt! *LMAO*.... oh poor Kimberlee. *lol*

    Let's say it....... REEEEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUUUUBEN!!!!

I had just ranted to Ken.... Don't any of these people know what Country Rock is at all?!??! Why hasn't anyone done any Lynard Skynard?!?!?!

Then out comes Reuben singing "Sweet Home Alabama".... and he nailed it!!!! Everyone was on their feet.

Right now I'd say the top performers tonight were Joshua, Kimberley Caldwell, and REUUUUUUBEN!

Julia D'mato (sp?) just sang Faith Hill's song "Breathe".... okay... it's country-pop... but it's not country-rock... and she just doesn't have it. She's not a Faith that's for sure... but is that a good thing or not? *lol*

Well Clay finished up the show with "I guess I must be wishing on Someone Elses Star" and he did a good job. I had hoped for something more but it was good. He's always good.

Still I think the highlights of the evening were Joshua and Reuben.

I'm voting for them and throwing Clay in for good measure.

Josh was GREAT! I agree, that's an awfully tough song to do, and he did it justice in the way he performed it... you could definitely tell that he's studied how garth does it...
My vote's gonna go to Rueben this week, though I thought Clay did very well too..
and did you hear Randy say I LOVE GARTH BROOKS after Josh performed? THAT was cool!

Did anyone notice Finola Hughes sitting in the audience right behind Simon? For those of you that do not recognize the name she is currently on All My Children...did a long stint on General Hospital and also did Stayin Alive with John Travolta. I'll have to pay more attention to the audience from now on! LOL

I agree that Josh and Ruben were the only ones who went completely with the theme, so I'll give them points for that (plus they did a great job). I was disappointed in Trenyce's performance...so far she and Clay have been my overall favorites with Ruben creeping up as a close third.

Except for Julia, who I still don't think has had a good performance, I thought the others did a good job with the songs, even though they weren't country rock...more like country pop.

Deb, Kimberly Caldwell's song was Travis's Anymore.

I was happy to hear Simon call Kimberley Locke on the Bonnie Raitt song. The whole time I was watching that I said-that's neither country, nor rock and it was nice to hear someone on the panel say the same.

Josh did have all the Garth movements down--right down to bugging his eyes out--lol. I also thought Carmen did a great job with Wild Angels--even if they chopped it up oddly. Had a feeling Clay would sing "Someone Else's Star"--guess after he sang "Somewhere Out There" last week the song had a similar feel. I believe Simon also commented on that.

Should've known Ruben would go with "Sweet Home Alabama"--he did a great job with it!

However, I voted only for Josh and Carmen. I don't think Ruben has anything to worry about.

I got home just after Josh finished singing , but I had a funny feeling (after seeing the black hat) that he had sung a Garth song. Wish I wouldn't have missed it. I just loved the way Ruben sang "Sweet Home Alabama"...excellent! RUBEN! RUBEN! RUBEN!

Actually I dont think the show would be half as much fun without Simon for the contestants to rant against. *lol*

However... even though I dont like it when he picks on superficial things, like weight or clothing.... as far as the performances go, he's usually dead on and tells the truth. The others (and I love Randy and Paula) tend to be a bit soft on them and dont want to hurt their feelings.

For instance... during the show last week I think it was, everyone was saying what a good performance Kimberly Caldwell did with her song.... and it was good... but there was something stiff about it. Simon was the one that eventually said that it was like a show you'd see in an Amusement Park and I agreed. She was still better than a lot of the people there....... but I think all those years of working shows in Branson as a kid have given her that "Amusement park style". If she can loosen up a bit on solo performances she'll do great... she did do better this week.

BTW... and the end of the show they were picking on Simon for not liking much of the show because he just didn't "understand country". I disagree... it really was that most of the performances were not up to the bar.... and most of them were NOT country... nor country-rock.

He did like Josh and Reuben... so even if he doesn't KNOW country... he knew what it was supposed to be.

I have to agree... he did GREAT... Simon's the BEST... he's not afraid to tell the truth...

I don't get into all that American Idol stuff, so everyone likes you, you get your 15 minutes, then you go home. Never to be heard again...

Anyways, I was flipping thru the stations, and loved the girl singing ANYMORE, Travis Tritt's song. Great Job.

And the same time, on ABC, 8 rules for dating my daughter. They were on vacation. The dad got sunburned on only one arm. He said it looks like he was wearing a Garth Brooks shirt.

I have my alarm clock set to play music to wake me up (rather than the annoying beeeeeeeeeep) anyway, guess what I woke up to this morning? The DJ's were playing sound clips from the show, and just as the alarm went off they were playing Josh doing Garth. It was a little confusing at first. I was thinking, wow, is this some recording of the song I have never heard, Garth just doesn't sound like himself! Then as the cob webs starting leaving my brian, I realized what it was! Very cool though

I am going to put a big sticky on the TV so I am sure to remember to watch the show this week!

I loved Kimberley Caldwell's rendition of Travis Tritt's song "Anymore". I thought it was a unique twist for a girl to sing a song that had been recorded by a guy, even though it could be sung by either. Snow, I think it's good that Julia doesn't sound like Faith (MEOW). Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm not a Faith fan. I thought that was Julia's best performance to date, which isn't saying a lot, I guess. Loved Josh doing Garth. That was very cool.

Josh did a good job. I thought Kimberly Locke was excellent. Ruban was awsome. Trenyce bombed ... I was bored by Clay. I like Carmen...but she may be in the bottom 3 ... with Julia and who else? Corey? Hi Nelly.

I was just searching for the schedule and I see AI is on again tonight, 8:30 pm eastern. I of course tuned just as it was ending last night... poop! They don't per chance rerun it on some other cable station?

Tonight's show is the one where they announce who is voted off, although I can't understand why it's going to take an hour.

I'm having a tough time deciding who is going to be in the bottom 3, although I'm guessing that Julia will be voted out. Even though her performance was better than her previous ones, I still though the others did a better job. Trenyce's performance wasn't as strong so, even though I have liked all her prior performances, I'm going to guess she is going to be in the bottom 3 for the week. I just can't pick the third.

Lowell, how can you not like Clay. I do agree that wasn't the best song, but he did sing it well. I would really like to see him do an upbeat song.

    Hi Nelly...nice to see you.

Tonights show was an hour because they had a lot of parts where they had the group singing together. They showed a recording session where the sang a Burt Bacharach (never can spell that right) song "What the World Needs Now". He's rearranged it and they group is recording it for a record that will be sold to raise money for the Red Cross. I want it!

The also did a great rendition of "God Bless the USA". Joshua started it off and the rest joined in. They did it again at the end of the show with a group of Marines that were in the audience standing there solemnly.... it was very moving.

As a group they also did a song...... oh gosh...... forgot the name. Something about kicking off your shoes where the dirt, and the gravel, and the grass meet? Someone help me out! It was great too!

Julia did get voted out and I had to agree with it. She has a very good voice and a great look... but she has always looked so depressed or something when she performs. When she got voted off tonight was the happiest I think I've ever seen her. If she had done as well singing the other times as she did tonight, I would have voted FOR her. In her defense she said that she's never really performed before... so I guess it's been harder for her than for a lot of the other contestants.

I'm hoping that Joshua will be able to sneak in some more Garth in the coming weeks. If he doesn't get shipped out, I think he'll go the distance!

BTW....... Poor Kimberly Caldwell.... first she's caught on camara scratching her butt last night while she was singing...... then tonight she cried so hard when Julia got voted off that she looked like a racoon!

OH! Kimberly Caldwell and Joshua also did a sort of music video of Mustang Sally that was really cute!

And I agree..... I want to see Clay shake 'em up too! I love that guy and he's from my neighboring state of NC. Nice to hear a Carolina accent...... PLUS he's studying to be a TEACHER!

But........ when I finally have to choose between Joshua, Clay, and Reuben it's going to break my heart!!!!

Come on JOSHUA......... SING MORE GARTH SONGS!!!

This whole thread is probably ready for the back porch, but here's something to add to it:

    RASCAL FLATTS' "American Idol" Fan

    Information For Release:

NASHVILLE (March 28, 2003) This past Monday morning platinum-selling group RASCAL FLATTS visited KSON radio station while in San Diego, California. During their on-air interview they received a call-in from a fan. Turns out this fan, U.S. Marine Lance Corporal
Joshua Gracin, who is stationed at Oceanside, California, is a contestant on Fox TV's American Idol and a huge RASCAL FLATTS fan.

Gracin made it into the final round of performers on the show by singing RASCAL FLATTS multi-media smash hit "I'm Movin' On" and is now in the final twelve. Details on Gracin at www.idolonfox.com/contestants reveal just how big a fan he is.
When asked what CD is currently in his player, he says MELT and also
answers his favorite song is "Not Just Me," an album cut written by Jay DeMarcus. His favorite song to perform is "I'm Movin' On."

Gracin told the guys- Gary, Jay & Joe Don, how much "I'm Movin'
On" touched him and how honored he was to have had the chance to perform it on American Idol.
