Hi Ryan,
I'm sure someone else will come back with more accurate info but I do have the Ireland and Back video. It was only available in Ireland but another PGer told me and I ordered one of the final copies. It is very similar to the tv show but there are some different shots and shots of Garth singing in a pub which I don't think were on the tv version. It was a brilliant show and the only time I've seen Garth live.
Jude
The oldest pub in Ireland. Could you tell us more about Garth's singing there? That had to have been a blast for him!
I´ve seen it. Some folks and Garth with just a guitar singing "Friends in low places" (I think.). There was a funny story with a couple. I need to re-watch it. It was too funny. Maybe someone else could share it here. It was real cute. The hubby embarrassed his wife and somehow had a "problem" with the song. And finally Garth started singing it again. He had a good time there.
But to tell the real story I need to re-watch it.
It was a good place to be and the people were great. It looked like a family meeting.
Very cool!

Hi,
Since we are from Dublin, Ireland we though we'd share what we know about the vid. The part in the pub was filmed in "The Brazen Head" pub here in Dublin. It's a nice place, very popular with tourists and now even more so LOL. It's a typical pub with traditional pub decor unlike the trendy bars that call themselves pubs LOL It isn't the oldest pub in Ireland but it has been around a fair while.
The part in the vid with the couple was very funny. Garth asked did anyone have any requests and the husband said "If Tomorrow Never Comes" saying it had special meaning for him and his wife. Meanwhile the wife was looking VERY embarressed so Garth sang and everyone joined in. When he finished to a big round of applause the husband said Garth, Me and me wife Mary usually make love to that song and in all the the times I've heard it that's the 1st time I've heard the end LOL Needless to say Garth looked a bit red in the face at this time. Thw whole pub stated lauging LOL. Then Garth being the funny guy that he is said lets do that 1 again. The wife was morified at this stage but everyone took it in good humour.
I think the rest of the Vid is pretty much the same, it's just it was released in a special box with a picture of Garth crowd surfing at Croker at about 1am. We were there and we had to lift him off the stage and out him back on when he'd finished, which ended with him crash landing unfortunately LOL It was very cool how they did that and made it look like it does in the vid. Tricks of the trade I guess. Basicallly there's no real difference except the limited edition box set and there were only so many and they are numbered. Collectors items.
Hope that helps.
Slan (bye in Irish)
Oh yes! That was it!
Sorry! It´s very late here and I had early shift.
Tz, tz, tz! Maddy!!!

Ole1, thanks for sharing that very special event! Lol! But the one thing you said, about The Brazen Head not being the oldest pub in Ireland, is contrary to what it's official T-shirt advertised as being the oldest in Ireland and established 1618? Somewhere in the 1600's it was. And it had a fiddle and a bottle of ale rendered. Do you know anything about it's past history, especially where it concerns the music? Coming from Dublin, you must have heard alot, right? Please tell us more as to why Garth's visit to Dublin was, as he called it, a very religious experience. Having never been there, but loving the music, I can only imagine through that. What's your name, if you don't mind me asking? Mine is Dale.
Ole? I have a question for you.
What do Liffey, "trad sessions", and Mother Red Cap's have in common?
Hi again,
I will try answer but I can only paraphrase why Garth's visit to Dublin was, as he called it, a very religious experience. He said that it was a huge undertaking & that from the start they didn't know if they could pull off the hugeness of the event. Once they took to the stage it all changed. From the 1st line to the last line the crowd sung every line back to him twice as loud and you can see on the vid that he was clearly taken aback especially when he brought Sandy out. They could just relax and enjoy and be entertained instead of just being the entertainers. He said that everywhere he goes in the world he and his family are treated like royalty but here they are treated like family. I love that quote it's my fave. He said that when he picked up his award and had his Mom & Dad there with him.
Mother Redcap's is a traditional Irish pub that has trad sessions every night. It is in the centre of Dublin. The trad sessions are usually traditional Irish music sessions with traditional instruments - bodhran, fiddle, banjo etc. They are very popular with locals and tourists and are very lively with much audience participation. Big sing-a-long. Jimmy Mattingly & Garth said that country music derives from Irish music. Mother Redcap's market is across the road from the pub selling the usual market stuff.
The Liffey is the river that runs through the centre of Dublin and divides the city into Northside & Southside (Big cultural divide and rivalry). Depending on how drunk you are and how fast you can stumble Mother Redcap's is about 3mins from The Liffey.
As to what they have in common I do not know LOL. You'd think that us living here would know. Bad, naughty us LOL Hope that helps some. I doubt it but it's all I got atm.
bye
LOL I loved that part of the show (seems like one would have to experience that personally to understand the effects!)The part in the vid with the couple was very funny. Meanwhile the wife was looking VERY embarressed so Garth sang and everyone joined in. but for us here in America...
this part of the tape wasn't included on "Ireland and Back"... it was included on the TV special "Garth Brooks Tryin' To Rope The World" instead.
On "Ireland and Back" the part where Garth shows views of the landscape... I remember a large stone cross near the ocean.
Ole, What is that area called? Any special meaning?
Ireland looks like a beautiful place... when Garth sang 'That Ol' Wind' near the water, it was a very special moment.I think I should watch it again soon! LOL

"There's Faith,Hope and Love, and the greatest of these is love, that's cool" Garth Brooks on We Shall Be Free Video
Ole will hopefully confirm this but believe it was Howth. Lovely place when it is sunny but cold when not as very exposed. There is a lovely fish n chip shop closeby!!!
Jude
Hi,
I'm not too sure about the cross but I'm off to watch the vid and check LOL I think it's beside the round tower in Glendalough just outside Dublin, which is something you see very clearly on another of the aerial shots. The Round Tower in Glendalough was built almost 1,000 years ago by the monks of St. Kevin’s monastery. St. Kevin founded his monastery in Glendalough in the 6th century AD and the monks built the tower 110 ft. in height as a bell tower and a place of refuge when the monastery was attacked. St. Kevin died in the year 618 AD at over 120 years of age. I know a lot of stuff was filmed there as it's steeped in religious history.
"That Ol' Wind" was filmed on Howth pier and Jude is so right when she says Howth's beautiful when it's warm but stay away when it's cold. It's a small finishing harbour so it's right on the water. Even Garth and Jimmy figured that out hence their Aran's LOL
The answer was Dublin. Thanks! Now, another question.
What do you know about Tim McGraw's visit to Dublin? He filmed the video for "Angel Boy" there. It too is full of religious meaning, the lyrics combined with the images of Irish history. What stood out for me the most was the rolling green hills, the sheep at the crossroads, and the lighthouse at the very end of the video which seems to be guiding them. It seemed like a traveling back through time. Also, Tim and Faith hosted a medievil party while there, in some castle I believe. Can you tell us anything about any of these things or places?
Hi,
Us living in Dublin would not necessarily agree that Dublin was the answer. Ok with Mother Redcap's & the Liffey you could = Dublin but certainly not with trad sessions cos although they are held in Dublin typical and traditional trad sessions are more readily associated with rural areas where they mostly originate. Any true Dub would not associate a trad session with their hometown.
As for TMcG don't have a clue LOL We are G fans
Ole, I wouldn't call Vanessa from Dream Chaser an untrue Dubliner, especially since it's already established who and where she is and what's behind her. You however have not told us who the "us" is that you are here at PG representing. You've got me kinda confused where you're really coming from. Who are your friends? Could we meet them?
I would like to hear more about your area, Tim and Garth aside. Pretty please?
This thread is going off topic and not Garth-related. Any off topic discussion should take place in PM's or emails. Thanks.

Hi OLE1! WELCOME TO PLANETGARTH! I just want to say that I totally enjoyed your posts about Ireland and Garth. Thanks for sharing that. Maybe you could tell us more about the concert you were at and about lifting Garth through the crowd. What an experience that must have been. Do you happen to have any pix? Thanks again. Hope to see you post more.

Have a Garthriffic Day!
I AM CANADIAN!
" Oh Canada, our home and native land,
true patriot love, in all our son's command
With glowing hearts we see the rise, the true north strong and free, oh Canada, Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee..."
Hi,
Ellie - Thanks for the welcome! We have lots of stories to share from the shows at Croker and thousands of pics LOL getting them scanned is another story LOL We will tell you what we can without ruining the effect for you guys cos if Garth hasn't revealed all then we can't LOL
Anyways the crowd surfing took place on the night of the last show. Love the cover of the DL Ireland & Back box set. What a pic!!! We were smack bang in front of the stage. Garth hushed "the crowd" put his finger to his lip and everyone fell silent LOL He had been given a late license (Need that here to play after 11 or 11:30 outdoors near residential area) provided the crowd weren't too loud LOL IT'S GARTH BROOKS!!! He explained what he was going to do and how he had always wanted to try it and this was the perfect time given the relationship with Ireland etc. He made 2 rules - The hats stays on and no-one touched ahem how shall we say this - down there LOL He was so funny He then knelt down and started chatting with everyone. He talked to us about our flags - 1 was about how we missed TY which he really appreciated, there was another with some Irish on it and he asked us to translate it for him LOL Garth trying to pronounce Irish. Then a guy said If you don't mind me asking and since I'm going to be lifting you how much do you weigh LOL Garth was cracking up at this point. Then the band came out with Trisha and Susan. They sat in front of us and signed autographs and posed for pics. Got a great 1 of James in his tricolour shirt LOL Then Trisha sang - no mic or music - BRILLIANT. It was after 1am at this stage and then the music started. Garth walked towards us we lifted him onto the crowd and he was away. Very smooth unlike the landing DOH!! You might see on the vid if you guys watch close enough - bad landing LOL. He then thanked everyone etc.. Brilliant night - Brilliant weekend!!!
Fuzzwuzz - We didn't call Vanessa an untrue Dub. We don't know her, anything about her or where she's from. You asked a question and we gave you OUR answer. Everybody's opinion may differ but that doesn't mean anyone's wrong. Our statement still stands "Any true Dub would not associate trad sessions with their hometown".
"You've got me kinda confused where you're really coming from. Who are your friends? Could we meet them? - Don't know what you mean here!!! We said whom the "Us" were in the first few posts we made here - no big secret 4 girls from Ireland who enjoy Garth and love going to FF.
THANKS OLE1 ~
Great "behind the scenes" post of info. Gosh you are making me homesick to come back and visit Ireland again. Most PROUDLY being of Irish heritage has nothing to do with my thinking Ireland and the people are 2 of the greatest things on the face of this earth!Your wonderful descriptive posts just goes to prove my point too!
Were you scared when it came to supporting Garth over your head as he surfed through the crowd? I would have been terrified I would be the cause of him falling. Of course, he could fall on me and never get hurt though..... I have lots of "padding" on me so I would be a soft landing spot. LMAO!
Are you the same "Irish girls" who are friends with Tracey Woods? If so, I feel like I know you guys and we have never had the pleasure of meeting................yet!Let's hope our paths cross on a GarthAdventure soon!
Huggs,
Mary Liz

I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That is my idea of a perfect day!!!
I didn't catch if anyone mentioned it, but the Ireland and Back video available in the box set with the DL CD is only in the PAL format so we folks in the US can't play the tape.
Also, the pub scene was included in the version which aired on NBC.
Hi Mary Liz,
We are the "Irish girls" that are friends with Tracey. We haven't talked to her in yonks so if she's out there lurking or anybody talks to her WE ARE VERY VERY CROSS LOL
If we are honest about it we weren't so much scared as shocked that Garth would crowd surf. We all turned to 1 another and were like Is this a Nirvana concert LOL Other than that it was fine plus at 1am tiredness set in since we had been queuing since 6am. There was this 1 really cool bit that didn't make the vid but it's ok for us 2 dish cos it's been on tv here. Yous know the way at our soccer games our chant is ole ole ole ole etc and we sang that to Sandy when she came on stage well at one point we started singing it and doing a mexican wave at the same time and Garth was dumbstruck. He was like hold up let me see that again. Then he started giving directions like we'll start on the right side of the stadium and work our way round. It was so funny. He kept directing it around the stadium again and again and again. Our arms were soooo dead LOL He said he wated it for himself so he could watch back home LOL Then there was "Shameless" which they also cut but made it to tv here. That was hilarious. Even Garth cracked up LOL You guys might have saw a bit of it when he did an interview with Katie Curic (sp) just as it went to air in the US.
bye
Tell me more! Tell me more!
I want to hear about "Shameless!"
~Ann~
Wow Ole - thanks so much for sharing your stories... I do have one little bitty question...
What's taken you so long to come to the Planet! LOL!
Ok Ole... are you the Irish girl who was on time to the Hall of Fame, or in the group that was running late to meet Ros?
Joyce
Hi Joyce,
We are the girls who turned up but despite what she says we weren't late LOL Can't be late if you didn't arrange to meet LOL Did we meet that day? We did. We were well moody that day - EARLY START Belated apologies from us LOL
We've been lurking for ages just we never had anything interesting to say. Guess that still applies LOL
Yes we did meet, briefly. (not because you were late, mind you... just because Ros lost you...hey if she isn't going to post here, we can tell our own version of the story!)
Next time we'll arrange for more time together! I'm glad you've joined us here at PG.
J.
ole, thanks so much for sharing. I totally agree with you, could care less about Faith and Tim, Garth always Garth.
THANKS!! TOO COOL,
jrile
Thanks, OLE, for all the delicious details!![]()
It is so fabulous to read this thread.

Wow! How amazing it would have been to be at one of the shows in Ireland. It's always been clear how at home Garth felt there. Thanks for sharing those memories with us!

Hi,
Mary Liz - Either you've been watching "Ireland & Back" too much or listening to Tracey's stories for way too long. LOL Us Irish are v quiet people by nature & not at all chatty LOL
Ann- We found the "Shameless" thing v funny but it probably loses all the comedy when put into words but we shall try. Here goes; As he started to sing it on the last night he came forward to just in front of us and stood. He was going about his business singing and we were singing along like you do. Anyways there were these girls just to the left of and they started to pull up his jean leg revealing his rather fetching socks LOl V funny at the time. He kept shaking his leg like he had ants in his pants LOL but they weren't budging. They had a firm grip on his socks and weren't letting go. Then they pulled the socks out and started putting notes inside them and under the tassels on his shoes LOL Garth was trying to be discreet and not draw too much attention but he'd keep looking down and shaking his leg like a naughty puppy was hanging on for dear life LOL but they weren't moving and he was looking very unsteady on his feet in front of us LOL Eventually after much wobbling by Garth he gave up the struugle and the notes went in LOL Guess he figured he'd rather people see naked ankles than him flat on his ass after a tug-o-socks LOL
There's more to this story but we will finish later so tired.
Joyce- We will so need more time and anytime over 30secs would be an improvement. It was like a fly by bye and hi LOL Still it was nice as up til then we thought you were an invisible friend who we'd heard lots about but nevr seen Hmmm Figment of the imagination LOL Nice to know you exist.
