    Possible new Songwriters CD

I haven't seen it mentioned hear yet so wanted to make sure everyone knew. I had the pleasure of seeing some of Garth's songwriters perform over the weekend in Mt. Pleasant, TN. The Songwriters (Pat Alger, Tony Arata, Kent Blazy, and Kim Williams) hope to return to the US after their tour of Ireland with a live album recorded.

For anyone who has their Garth tribute CD and has heard them live, you'll probably agree with me that they sound so much better in person. According to Kent Blazy, that is because when they originally recorded the tribute CD, it was a gift for Garth on his 100 million sales and was never intended to be released. Now, since they have been touring more, they want to put out a live CD that is geared more towards the fans.

Thanks for the info, PJ - very !

Does that mean we'll get a 'Songwriters Double Live', I wonder?

Thanks for the link regarding their Irish tour Angela!

I doubt we'll get a Songwriters Double Live, but wouldn't that be cool? I wouldn't mind having one disc of Garth songs and one disc of songs that other artists had recorded. Did you check out those lists? I know Kim Williams had a CD set of all the songs of his that had been recorded and it was a 4 disc set.

A 4-disc set??? Wow. I hadn't even heard about that...

It wasn't until I read the lists on IMRO that I realised just how prolific and how successful these guys are - I'd never really thought of them outside of the Garth Universe before!

Kim's set isn't commercially available, but I have seen it at one of the songwriter shows.

I hear you're coming down for Fan Fair Paula. If so, rumor has it they will be doing a show somewhere in Nashville that week.

I hope at one of the Fan Fair venues 'cause I don't think I can convince the people I'm going with to miss the Adelphia or Riverfront shows.

Wow! Hearing some live versions would really be cool. I hope they have it out soon. I haven't been able to see any of them in person before, so it would give me and idea of what they're like live.

    Had a great weekend.
The shows were awesome. They were videoing and recording the shows so hopefully we will get a live cd. Both Tony Arata and Kent Blazy were reduced to tears of emotion. The guys are fantastic live. Much better than I expected.
Might have some photos later this week just working on them now.

Ireland has its own release of the CD now too

The actual content is the same, but the packaging is a little different - instead of the cardboard casing, the Irish CD has a jewel case with the booklet and CD, all in a card slipcase. Apparently this is something to do with the casing used in the US not being a great seller (perhaps not as durable?) - at least that's what I vaguely remember one of the Songwriters (Tony Arata, I think) saying to us, I was still trying to deal with the fact that WE WERE TALKING TO THE GUY WHO WROTE 'THE DANCE'!!

Actually, I asked Pat Alger about the different packaging when I saw them before they left for Ireland. According to Pat, the jewel cases are cheaper than the original gatefold case. In fact, there were only 50,000 of the gatefold covers produced and any future printings in the US will also have the jewel case.

How interesting - that's definitely not what we were told! Though it wasn't Pat we were talking to at the time, so maybe the Songwriters don't talk to one another about that kind of thing

Will the US reprints have the slipcase as well as the jewel case?

I had to dig for this thread to add this little tidbit from the VFR Records website -
    6/24/2002 - Ireland tour a great success!
Pat Alger, Tony Arata, Kent and Sharon Blazy and Kim and Phyllis Williams returned from Ireland on May 15 having covered over 1500 miles by van with their fabulous tour guides Johnny and Sunny.

The tour began in Dublin with a well attended performance and Q&A with Irish writers at IMRO, Ireland's equivalent of ASCAP & BMI. Next morning Pat and Kent did a 10 minute segment on the Ireland AM TV show. Then it was on to Belfast, Northern Ireland to perform on the Kelly show Ireland's 2nd highest rated TV show.

Then back to Dublin for 2 nights at the Holiday Inn on Pearse street playing to great and enthusiastic crowds who sang along on every song. Included in the audience were a group of Garth fans from UK who stayed for both nights.

From there we headed south and literally looped around the entire country stopping to see as many sights as possible and doing concerts in Killarney, Galway and Letterkenny. Great times, lots of laughs and we can't wait to go back.
Okay, 'fess up Jude, Angela and any other UK PGer who went, were they referring to you?

    Hiyall

Yes it was us. Both shows were different and far exceeded anything I expected. The guys put on brilliant shows and they were very chatty afterwards. I hope that if ever they come back, which Pat Alger said they would, we will be there again.

If anyone else gets the chance to see them please do go - you owe it to yourselves.

As for Kent Blazy singing The Storm oooooooh I've got goosebumps. He really ought to release a cd as he has an amazing voice. I think he sounded ever better than Garth (sorry Garth) when he sang If Tomorrow Never Comes.

Tony Arata and Pat Alger have cut cds and they are awesome. These guys are not showmen like Garth but their shows had atmosphere, creativity and warmth.

There are going to be PGers there! Jen is going from here in Nashville, and some of the Atlanta girls are coming up as well. Probably more, but look for them if you go! Jen has bar seats I think.
