    Teammates Update - April 2002

Things are hopping, buzzing and clanging at Teammates as the number of Hockey & Baseball players added to the roster climbs!

I was at the Teammates office yesterday and the flurry of activity and the awesome hard work these people are doing is really paying off! Currently there are 74 hockey and over 300 baseball players who are signed, sealed and delivered! There are a lot more baseball players who have verbally comitted or expressed an interest in being Teammates but have yet to sign on the dotted line. I expect the baseball number to really jump by the end of the season.

Teammates and Garth are hosting an intimate "Appreciation Party" for the hockey players this summer, for security & privacy reasons I cannot disclose the date or place. This will be a grand gala event! Oh to be in a profession where ice skates and hockey pucks are your daily working equipment! *sighs*

I have asked for permission to get the new TFK hats for sale exclusively to PGers as a fund raiser for Teammates. Since these new hats are "Garth's babies" (and right now there is only a handful of them ~ not even the players have them!) a decision will be made on my request at the next board meeting. I have also asked for permission to get the Teammates T-Shirts for PGers... that is also being discussed & looked into for us, and, a decision should be soon forthcoming.

There is a new announcement that will be made this summer in regards to an expansion being made by Teammates. This announcement will be near and dear to all of you who have shown any support to Garth's Teammates. As soon as this info is made available for public knowledge I will post it here.

The new offices are really looking great! The Garth and sports memorabilia seems to grow by leap & bounds each time I visit! I could spend all day there just looking at the awesome stuff they have displayed! Garth is going to be extremely pleased when he comes to visit these new offices for his very 1st time.

As is always expressed over and over again from the staff at Teammates, good wishes, love and much appreciation goes out to PGers for their donations and support in all forms.

    God Bless!
    Mary Liz

PS Since I have mentioned him several times. Here is a picture of Bo Mitchell, President of Teammates. You can now put a face with the name.

Great things are going on there!!!

Iīm sure, a lot of you already read it, but I want recall, what TFK is doing.

    Here are two examples:

    **********************

    International Justice Mission
Jyoti was 14 when she set off for her home village with the money she had saved while working as a domestic servant in a distant town. While returning home by train, she was befriended by four women. These women drugged her and had her transported to Bombay where she was sold into a brothel and locked away in a hidden room. Jyoti's story is too brutal to describe in graphic detail. By the time she was 17, she had been severely beaten many times, had suffered through three abortions and remained physically locked away to service the brothel's customers.

A team of skilled criminal investigators from the International Justice Mission (IJM) infiltrated the brothels in Bombay and located Jyoti and other girls held in forced prostitution. The investigators documented the girls' conditions with video surveillance equipment and then worked with a trusted police contact to raid the brothels and release the girls. Jyoti is now in a wonderful home of refuge operated by a Bombay church partner of the IJM. Here, Jyoti is receiving the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical care she desperately needs to overcome her horrific experience. Jyoti has expressed an interest in returning to Bombay one day as a witness to girls like her who fear there is no future after the abuse of forced prostitution.

In addition, the IJM and one of the girls released from forced prostitution were asked to testify before Congress about the work of the IJM, the ways girls can be rescued from forced prostitution and the needs in this area.

    God's Love We Deliver
Christopher was only 6 years old in 1994 when he was referred to God's Love We Deliver (GLWD) by a local healthcare agency that recognized that he was literally wasting away from the effects of AIDS. He had previously been infected through his mother, and his guardian (his aunt) was unable to provide proper nutrition for him. We delivered lunch and dinner to him each weekday for 3 years, as well as providing both him and his aunt with extensive nutrition counseling. In addition, our Ombuds officer referred the family to additional food sources to supplement our life-sustaining meals. We're happy to report that Christopher was able to return to school, and is now a typical 12-year old. His doctor says that he is doing very well on his medications.

    ********************

Great things are going on there!!!

    Letīs do some more!!!

Words from a very wise and true-hearted man!!!

    Dear Friends,

As the father of three daughters, I know kids are the last pictures of innocence, and that's what charity should be about. Touch'em All refers to a player hitting a home run, but in this case the phrase has a double meaning. We wanted a charity to touch as many kids as possible-we wanted to touch them all.

One hundred percent of the money generated on the field goes to the kids. That's not a goal; it's a rule. We'll find ways to privately fund the Foundation's overhead.

Touch'em All has over 230 Major League Baseball Players as teammates. Now I invite you to become a Teammate for Kids through this website. Together we are making America's pastime count for every swing.

    Thanks and God Bless,

    Garth Brooks
    Teammates for Kids Foundation

    ************

Therefore I love you! What a wonderful job you and all those brave working people are doing!!!

Thank you for that report Miss PG TFK Liaison!

And thank you for your efforts in getting us access to official TFK hats and shirts! I'm not a hat wearer, but I'd love a t-shirt.

Can't wait till you can spill more details!

I do promise keep everyone posted as the Teammates news is able to be released!

As far as the T-Shirts and caps....when I hear back, I will definately let everyone know ASAP! (Keeping my fingers crossed!)

I have a call into the Colorado Avalanche....when they call me back to let me know I got the goalie job, I will then go sign on as a contributing sports figure to Teammates... I imagine then, I will be invited to the Appreciation Party too! However, I am not holding my breath waiting to hear back from the Avalanche! For now, I will be content to be just a mere fan who has the priveledge of calling the Teammates people my good friends.

    Huggs,

Hey Joyce...How about I get Teammates to phone you to vouch for the authenticity if we get them for PG! Better yet ~ I'll ask Bo make the "official hat" verifying call to you.
