    Why the Scarecrow?

Someone in another thread asked why the Scarecrow... not the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, or Dorothy.

For those who can't hear the PC, here is Garth's explanation of how he chose the album title.(Follows his comments about Allen Reynolds telling him to "think with his heart.")

"So in trying to find a title for this album, I am saying that... I've got it pinned up on the house walls everywhere... "You've Got to Think With Your Heart." and finally, stupid me, had to have 3 little girls tell him. When I said 'Girls, what is the phrase for thinking with your heart' cause I gotta find a title for this. And of course, the girls looked at me and said "Dad, the Scarecrow thought with his heart." (big "awwwwws" from the audience.) ...Yeah. So...it was pretty cool. So uh, here he is, the Scarecrow. It's funny how, you know, in the Wizard of Oz, the whole tone of the book and everything, it's the sepiatone from the Scarecrow and what he stood for. It's funny how, in there, the one who didn't have a heart, loved the most. The one that didn't have courage seemed to be the bravest in the times that he needed to, so uh, the Scarecrow is why this was."

    The language of the heart....

I remember reading and learning about that from Paige's thread in "Garth moments" - and from Fuzzwuzz's comments.

    So beautiful - so special.

    Joyce,

Thanks for sharing that moment of Garth with us.

I was thinking about the Scarecrow in the "Wizard Of Oz"
    and realized...he didn't have a brain.
    So,
He had to use his heart to think with.

The tin man needed a heart...didn't he?
And the Scarecrow already had one.

Isn't it interesting, how this album "Scarecrow" makes us
look back at a movie we all can RELATE to and understand?

Garth always utilizes his ability to unite his fans in one
    way or another.
Relating to the "Wizard Of Oz" by listening to the wisdom
    of his children!
    Amazing!

    Hawk...
I agree with you about fuzzwuzz...

"I think I'll miss you most of all!"

Garth also opened his press conference by telling the fans there how much he has & does miss them (us)!

Life is too short NOT to be a Garth Brooks fan!

I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That is my idea of a perfect day!!!

I finally figured out how Garth's heart is so big - It has all of our hearts that he's captured, right there next to his own.

I think I'll let him keep mine. It's in a real safe place!

I have yet to hear everything Garth said at the press conference. Just small bits and pieces. Such as "you know me, I'll find a way to get into people's living room." Somehow, I don't think he means merely four walls. Thank you for this thread. May the whole world learn the language of the heart. From us as well as a character in a movie.

By the way, it was another character in a movie who first taught me Garth's language, CG.

Kerry, I never thought you were silly...I thought you made a lot of sense. I'm not mentioning any names (right, Joyce) of the person who didn't think there was a connection.

What do I think? Well, look at what Garth said. He's going back to his roots with this album. Guess he just wanted to try it on for size until it fits perfectly again, like the jacket, whether it be cloth or a CD cover to his music. I think we can probably expect the same flavor musically and spiritually on this new release as his first.

    "Scarecrow" . . .I love it!

When I first heard the title "Scarecrow", I instantly fell in love with it. It sounds deliciously morbid, in comparison to his other album titles. Check this out:

    Garth Brooks (1989)
    No Fences (1990)
    Ropin' the Wind (1991)
    The Chase (1992)
    In Pieces (1993)
    Fresh Horses (1995)
    Sevens (1997)
    Scarecrow (2001)

It definitely has a dark edge to it. I have this gut feeling, this album is going to be much darker than anyone realizes yet. I read a post where someone said there is a song on there called "Thicker Than Blood", even. Like I said, I love it. I remember when Sevens came out, I had this same tingly excited feeling. This is the second Garth album I'll be a witness to. I can't wait! This one is going to be even better; I can just feel it.

Of course, you forgot Chris Gaines! And what about Garth Brooks and the magic of Christmas, Beyond the Season, Double Live, The Hits? By the way, I'm excited too! I feel like I'm back at the beginning and didn't miss a thing!

    Album names

The reason I didn't put all those extra albums in is because they're not considered his regular studio albums, like the seven that have come our way so far. That's why Sevens had its title . . . get what I'm sayin'?

But yeah, even with all those others, Scarecrow is _VERY_ different. And I read some lyrics from the song "Pushing Up Daisies" in an article . . . this album definitely has its dark moments.

    You called it didn't you?

I feel that Garth music will ALWAYS be Garth music. He doesn't need to "fit" in with what hot on the country chart right now or what was hot in the past. If he records from his heart, we will all like it as well. I personally can not wait until Nov 13th.

That city held nothing Dorothy needed to get home. The Wizard? What a joke! I keep thinking of that Tim McGraw tune about country girls and boys getting 'down' on the farm. It's them Alabama Clay roots, baby that did it.
