A shameless plug for Carolyn Dawn Johnson

LOL...this is probably gonna sound like a sales promotion, but I just have to tell you guys how awesome Carolyn Dawn Johnson's debut CD is For anyone who doesn't know, CDJ's CD, "Room With A View", came out last Tuesday. It features the hit singles "Georgia" and "Complicated", but besides those, you're also going to get a whole CD full of potential hits. I honestly think that she could be the next "big" female vocalist in the business. Not only does she deliver the songs with a powerful voice (if you like Martina, you'll like CDJ -- and she also used to be Martina's backup singer), but she wrote or co-wrote EVERY song on the album, AND she plays guitar on every track, too. She is one multi-talented lady!

For those looking for a CD with a nice balance of uptempto AND slow songs, this is it. You can rock your way through the fast-paced "Love Is Always Worth The Ache", "I Don't Want You To Go", and "One Day Closer To You." Then the CD slows down with the poignant tribute to her late brother, "Room With a View", and also with the songs "Masterpiece" and "You Are". "Georgia" ranges somewhere in the middle, as does "Complicated" and "I'll Think Of You That Way." And for those who live in Canada, where the CD has been available for a while, you get two bonus tracks, which include another fast one, "Tumble and Roll." The coolest thing about this CD, though, is that CDJ delivers every note with her entire heart. This is the first CD I've bought in a very long time where I could truly tell that the artist TOTALLY connected with the music.

I have to admit that I saw CDJ live on the Girls Night Out Tour, which is what intrigued me in the first place. Although her set was short, she was fabulous, and her voice was awesome. And then I visited her website, where I found that she posts weekly messages on her fan board. She is a very cool lady, and very sweet to her fans.

Before I say who she looks like/sounds like, I have to say I REALLY like her. I saw her on Girls Night Out too.

She is Country Jewel (sp?) But better.

CDJ is an awesome songwriter. She co-wrote "Single White Female." The night after Chely cut the song, she and some friends went out and she played that song for them. So, they were sitting in her car in a parking lot listening to the song when CDJ comes running up and knocking on the window saying "I wrote that song!" Chely was kinda thinking "i know almost every writer in nashville, but hey. come on" So, CDJ got in the car with them.
I thought that was a story.
