Singer says the movie will not be 'The Lamb.'
Teri vanHorn reports:

Garth Brooks may be retiring from music, but he's about to jumpstart his next career. The country superstar said that his film production company would announce its first project in about 10 days. The singer also said his final studio album has been delayed by family losses.

Brooks, who has said that his next career will likely be in screenwriting, said that his first film project is not "The Lamb," his planned film about his rock alter ego, Chris Gaines.

"'The Lamb' is still Paramount's baby, and if Paramount says we're going forward with this, and if they're crazy enough to let me do the soundtrack, I'll go back in and do it, even though [the Chris Gaines album] was the hardest thing I've ever done," Brooks said.

"Right now it's a painful time ? looking at your own mortality and family life." Garth Brooks

Meanwhile, a "painful" and reflective time for Garth Brooks and his crew has put them in no hurry to begin work on what the country star says will be his last studio album.

Brooks and two longtime members of his recording team, producer Allen Reynolds and engineer Mark Miller all lost their mothers in the last 14 months, which the singer said has made for some collective introspection.

"Right now it's a painful time ? looking at your own mortality and family life," Brooks said backstage at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night (January 7), shortly after accepting the Favorite Male Musical Performer award. "That's hanging over us right now, but when that clears, we'll cut [the album]. When the time is right, it's right."

Brooks, 38, said he still plans to deliver the album between Mother's Day and Father's Day.

The singer announced his retirement from country music last October after passing the 100 million mark in total album sales. He promised one more studio album, but added on Sunday that he's also planning an end-of-year surprise as a thank-you to fans.

Brooks' win for Favorite Male Musical Performer Sunday marked the 11th time he nabbed the honor. "We didn't do anything this year to deserve this, but it's nice that the people gave it to us," he said.

Brian: It was supposed to be the end of this past year. But with the possiblility of a merger, Garth explained at the PC, any plans for an album and the end of year thing got put on the back burner. Hmmmm....maybe it's those 6/7 shows he was talking about??? It's nice to have something to think about.

Hmmmmmm!

One last studio album to look forwad to between mother's day and father's day.

Truthfully the longer he puts it off is kind of better for us. It gives us something to look forward to. Imagine, afterwards we'll have nothing to look forward to.

However, as time goes by, Garth WILL be back in the studio. He can't deny who he is and he is a country music singer. And he's the best. He's only 38. You think he's going to sit back all those years and not sing.....yeah right.

Sorry to hear about Allen and Mark's mothers:(
May our prayers be with them and their families.

I love Garth to death, but these last few years and probrably the next couple of years are very tough for him as it would be for any of us. I have no problem letting Garth take his time and tend to his life. His children really need him right now more than we do. However I look forward to new material as much as or more than any of you:)

Lisa:):)

I know he said that:) I just don't buy that excuse:eek: A possible merge wouldn't do anything to him and a possible single concert if that is what he is thinking about.

The only other "major" artist I can think of who got into huge problems with his record label is George Michael.
Garth is simply too big to let a little merge screw anything for him:)

Oh I believe! Yes I do! Like Garth, I'm just biding on God's perfect timing
When the time is right, it's right.

And I can't wait to hear what scriptwriting is coming from Garth and his Redstrokes Co. There's no way that company has sat idle all these years. When was it formed anyway? And The Lamb is Garth's baby as well as Paramount's. There is no one who speaks of it so personally as Garth has. He's allover that movie. He's what's driving it, or there'd be no interest, ya think?

Mmm, this is a little confusing but isn't that just like Garth to keep us on the edge of our seat:)
Thanks for the news Deb. I also saved some vacation time for the end of the year, I don't usually do that....so maybe it was the Garth-angels that made me do it this year:):)
