The Phoenix

Fire, man - it's gonna' spread
flames leaping, jumping up ahead.
Homes standing there.
Oh people, people please beware.

Smoke circling overhead.
Embers popping, igniting dread.
Heat arisin', gaspin' hot air in.
Flames flarin', fanned by wind.

Fire, man - see the child there!
Help is needed, no thought of fear.
Swallow hard, speed this truck.
Gotta help, God grant them luck.

Tires squealing, children crying.
Coughing, hard to see; gasping, sighing.
Burning torment, race this heat,
Gotta win, Oh Jesus, let us beat.

Smoke circling overhead.
Embers popping, igniting dread.
Heat arisin', gasping hot air in.
Flames flarin', fanned by wind.

Praire fire, thick brushed flat land;
nothing to help 'em, 'cept a friend, and this man
at the wheel, swinging truck around.
Jumpin' out, on hot, smokin' ground.

Grab the child, search the house;
did we get everyone out?
More folk over there.
Jump that fence, no time to spare.

Smoke circling overhead,
Embers popping, igniting dread.
Heat arisin', gasping hot air in,
Flames flarin', fanned by wind.

Save a pet, people saved too,
natural hell; hot inferno; defeated by you.
"Can't abide standing outside the fire",
Man, you ain't no liar.

Man, what a prophecy,
Tested and proved by the fire.
Man, you are the Phoneix,
a true hero; courageous survivor.

And you - we all thank God for and admire -
the man that doesn't stand outside the fire.
Nash, BV -

Thanks. BV that is exactly the response I want - that feeling of reliving it; being there.

So I go and look, talk to people and listen. Then by empathy, what I've read that Garth said, what I've heard others say, and what I imagine that it was like as I look at the charred remains of someone's home all goes into the description.

A fire - perhaps started by a cigarette thrown out of a car. A soda can with water in it as an ashtray. That's all it would take to prevent something like that.

And two men, citizens - risking all to help - because they care. Well now - to me - that's what this Christmas season is all about isn't it?

And so I want to give a little gift to those two men that exemplify that spirit and to all here on the Planet Garth to help share what those two really did do. Especially the one that was in the driver's seat and so made the initial decision to help without hesitation. I praise that man and his gifts - and one of those great gifts is his heart and courage.

If I could I would give an eagle feather for those acts of courage. This little song will have to serve in its place.

And to all that help others in this way or others - I thank them too.

Yes Brian -

Having seen the area - and talked to some of the firefighers in the area -

Just wanted to thank Garth and his friend for their acts (and also all who face the fire daily).

It's not just what Garth does on stage that counts - it's the caring he shows in everyday life behind the scene.
