Sarah watches snow begin to fly
she remembers this time last year
The missions were closed
no place to go
in broken boots and threadbare clothes

Andy said never mind
we both know what it means
we can sleep on the street
but I've still got our dreams
in my pockets
in my empty pockets
no one can take
anything they can not see
no one can take
my love away from me
in my pockets
my empty pockets

Andy took her undernieth his wings
found her a doorway, a corner to sleep
When Sarah was cold
he said "here take my coat"
his generousity is not lost
on those who know

but
Andy said never mind
we both know what it means
we can sleep on the street
but I've still got our dreams
in my pockets
in my empty pockets
no one can take
anything they can not see
no one can take
my love away from me
my pockets
my empty pockets

Andy wandered all the way downtown
No one knew his name when he was found
But Sarah, she dreamed, of warm angel wings
and a voice said " you'll never be far away from me."

it said never mind
we both know what it means
we can sleep on the street
but I've still got our dreams
in my pockets
in my empty pockets
no one can take
anything they can not see
no one can take
my love away from me
my pockets
my empty pockets

And Sarah watches snow begin to fly
she remembers this time last year

I had to look at the author twice on this one, lol. "Didn't I just write Empty Pockets?" ;)

Thanks for sharing that. The first and last lines made me think of Cindy Lou Hoo from "The Grinch." ...That picture of innocence, ya know? And it's sad to think of what some people face during the winter.

I wondered if it was the other one reposted.

The lyrics are really touching, sad but it makes you feel grateful for the things in your own life at the same time. Reminds me a bit of some of Springsteen's songs, the style and the message in the lyrics. Great song. :)

BV,

Had to go away and get my emotions in check after this one. WOW!

my last year working for City of Long Beach, our dept. was the unlucky ones that had to clear away the homeless camps from the LA river. The dept. and the city refused to help them find shelter. those meager belongings where all they had and they wanted us to take that away too. some of us refused to. it was one of the "acts of insubordnation" they used to fire me.

i'd do it again.

take care,

thanks

I'm suprised at the emotional reactions I've gotten from people when I've performed this one out....a good sign I'd say.
