Since you guys gave me such a warm welcome on my first post in this forum, I've become addicted! Here's another one--hope you like it....

Where Did All The Time Go?

(Copywrite 1995 Jennifer Merlich)

For the very first time
I finally opened my eyes,
And saw that 25 years had gone by,
Everyone around me
Had somewhere to go,
Something to be, but where was I?

So many dreams that never came true,
That were lost along the way some how,
A whole generation,
Without a clue,
Wondering, OK, what now?

(Chorus)
Where did all the time go?
And what about those dreams?
One day you're jumping rope
Or skipping stones,
The next you're coming apart at the seams.
Where did all the time go?
And how'd it slip away so fast,
You tried so hard just to let it go,
But now you want so bad to make it last.

Remember daddy's little angel
With the world at her feet,
And a million stars to wish upon?
Life was just a fairytale,
The world was a place,
Filled with laughter, and sunshine and song.
When did that little girl
Grow up and scared,
and angry and strong?
When did the ribbons and rainbows turn grey?
How'd the magic turn to memories,
The laughter to tears,
How'd the time just slip away?

This one's kind of depressing, now that I've read it again. Sorry! :)

It's okay to write about something sad, Jenny. Some of my favorite songs are. :)

I like this one because it's a good message to make sure one stays on top of their hops and dreams. Sail "The River" everyday, right? Nice Job.

I did have one question, though. The line that says, "Grow up and scared, and angry and strong?" I just wasn't sure if that's correct grammar for what you meant to say. Either "and become scared" or "grow up scared" maybe?

Very very cool song again:):)

You are really good at this:):) I can't believe you were scared of posting your songs in the past:eek:

Hmmm, I am not like Nash;) I don't worry about the grammar because I suck at English grammar anyway:rolleyes:
It does make sense to me, but then again I am far from as good as you and Nash:rolleyes:

Thanks for sharing:)

Thanks again Brian! And I made you blush? How cool is that? :)

Nash,
When it is sung, it sounds much more smooth than when it's written. The line originally went,
"When did that little girl grow up, grow scared, grow angry, grow strong?" as in "become". It is supposed to show a transformation over the course of life. I decided to leave out all the extra "grows", and figured the one would carry over to the others, if that makes any sense! :) I've sung it both ways, and haven't really decided which I like better. And for the record, please don't ever hesitate to offer grammar suggestions (or other types, for that matter!). If I miss something or anything seems unclear, it's great to know you guys are watching out for me! Did this clear it up at all? Hope it makes more sense now...
:)

Forgot to add something....Brian, I think your command of the English language is pretty darn good, considering it's not your native tongue! I've heard from other multi-lingual people that english is incredibly tough to learn. Your's is better than some Americans I know! ;)

Sad but it really touched me. I have had similar thoughts in the past and that song really brought them back up. Great lyrics. :)
