I've wanted to post here for a while, but didn't have the nerve! I feel bold today, so here goes....

"Our Greatest Shame"

Today more garbage washed up on the shore,
Seems nothing's sacred in this world anymore.
A dark cloud fills the air while forests burn,
Makes me wonder if we'll ever learn....

Too many are consumed by greed,
They make their fortunes while the planet bleeds,
Building their castles up into the sky,
How much more damage will their money buy?

Chorus:
It's our greatest shame,
Our darkest fear,
Destroying all we should hold dear,
So we close our eyes
Wish it all away,
Soon there'll be nothing left to do but pray...
Still our rivers are dying
The planet is crying
And begging us to change our ways,
It's our greatest shame,
There's no one left to blame.
(second time: Only we're to blame)

Another creature disappeared today.
While we keep thriving they're the one's who pay,
They're fading fast and dying in our hands,
We count our blessings as we rape the land.
She's calling out to you and me,
She needs our help now people, can't you see?
There's no time left to look the other way,
We've got to make some changes here, today...

Chorus

I know, it's not your typical country song, but I thought I'd share anyway. I'm going to hit the submit button now...here goes...I'm really going to do it this time.....

Jenny,

This is sad and oh so true. You are
obviousely ecologically concious...Very
well written and I think it would make
an excellent song. I wish John Denver
was alive to sing it :)

Well done.

Thanks for the compliments! I've read stuff from both of you and have been thoroughly impressed. Your kind words gave me a real confidence boost.

CC--I'm enormously flattered by your John Denver remark. He was an incredible artist who, IMHO did not receive the credit he deserved. I'm truly honored that my little song made you think of him...

BV--You are too sweet! Now that I've posted once and didn't get "boo-ed off the stage" so to speak, I think I'll take your advice and run a few others by you guys now and then. But I have to warn you, my stuff isn't nearly as deep or haunting as others I've seen here. Hope you won't mind....

Thanks bunches guys! You gave me something to smile about today!

Jenny,

I'm glad you overcame your stage fright here. This is a very well written piece and a very important message. And, hey, was "We Shall Be Free" a typical country song? No. And look how that turned out. :)

Brian,
I've hung out on the main board for about a year now and I always get a kick out of your posts. You're definately one of my favorites! Thanks once again for being so sweet to me! :) :) :)

Kirsty,
Thanks for the compliment! Because of kind words from people like you, I've posted another song. It's getting easier to hit that submit button! I hope no one will be disappointed, though. None of my other songs are as socially conscious as I tried to be in this one. My others are pretty basic.... :)
