Hey. I was discussing this one with a friend and she let me know that the first verse is not as clear as she'd like it to be. I realize I should be able to tell whether or not it's clear, but...doesn't matter if it's clear to me, really...it's the listeners who matter, right? I also told her this one might be harder to write since it's one of the FEW I write dealing with relationships that are completely true for me. So if you could just give a word or two on your verdict, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you :)
I was fighting that "once in a lifetime" emotion
When your friend began her introduction
Because I knew life would have a different plan in mind
My friends would never understand
my wish to shuffle the cards in fateís hand
afraid of the possible heartache if I tried

But Iíve been wishing
on every star I see
for someone like you
to find your way to me
Iíve been waiting
waiting for you

Whether itís fair or not why weíre apart
Circumstances separate our hearts
Reasons why we canít go beyond "just friends"
Though intangible as they may be
they will somehow never go unseen
But hopeful patience may provide one last chance

So Iíll lay cradled
in the hands of time
Watching the moments
drift on by
Iíll keep waiting
waiting for you

(bridge)
It donít matter how or why Iím here
My heart has found its place
And my hands will stay forever folded in prayer
Til Iím wrapped in your embrace

Iíll lay cradled
in the hands of time
watching the moments
drift on by
Iíll be waiting
waiting for you
Your friend was right...the first verse is hard to understand. I've read and re-read it, and am not sure, still, what you are trying to get across. I have an inkling, of course, but only after several read-throughs. I understand what the song is about, but that verse is just very unclear.

Don't know what else to tell ya, except you still have more talent for songwriting in your little finger than 80% of the rest of us. Keep up the GREAT work!
A friend, eh? ;) Now that I've read, and RE-READ this..I get it. It makes perfect sense to me! I love this theme..and unfortunately, I can relate to it. LOL. I love the idea of this song...and it being true only adds to the story it tells! Other than that, I have to say once again, that your way with words never ceases to amaze me! Thanks for sharing with everyone! I know we all enjoy your work. Also, thanks for helpin' me through this so called "neverending slump o' mine." It's appreciated! :) Keep on truckin'!

Thanks, Rach. Always with the kind words. :)
Deb, what the first verse is supposed to say is I meet a guy who I think is, for lack of a better term, perfect, lol. But, I know there are reasons we can't be together, which I won't mention. My friends have had all had relationships, so they wouldn't understand why I have any struggle with what's before me, also cuz they don't realize how I like this guy. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm just restating what I wrote. Does that help at all?

One question....is it who I THINK it is??? His name begins with "S" and ends with "n"....is that who it's about? (and, no, it's NOT Satan! LOLOLOLOLOLOL)

Yes...it makes more sense to me now. I hate it that you had to explain it, but then, you know ME..lol. My middle name is "Idiot".

Hope to find you online sometime soon.

No need to apologize, Deb. And no, it's not him. :) He's taken...but still cute. ;) This is about another guy I met about a month ago.

Anyway, I've rewritten the first verse and I'll repost it. Hope it's clearer and hasn't lost the message.
I remember the night when we were meeting
how I savored that "once in a lifetime" feeling
Everything about you was seamlessly in place
My emotions were stronger than they appeared
whenever your body moved too near
My heart pounded beneath the smile on my face

Cuz Iíve been wishing
on every star I see
for someone like you
