Monday June 5, 4:59 pm Eastern Time<BR>Company Press Release<P>"Songwriter's Silent Auction" a Music Collectible-Lover's Dream<P>ASCAP/NSAI-Sponsored Auction to Benefit Copyright Protection Offers Wide Variety of Autographed Music Memorabilia From Current and Past Stars<P>NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 5, 2000-- From a set of John Lennon CD's autographed by Yoko Ono to an autographed evening gown once worn by Reba McEntire, to scores of other items, the ongoing ``Songwriter's Silent Auction'' organized by The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) is a dream-come-true for music memorabilia collectors. The two songwriter organizations have combined forces to benefit the important work of the NSAI Legislative Fund. ASCAP and NSAI are involved in copyright protection efforts in America, throughout the world, and on the Internet. A proposed six-percent state tax on songwriter royalties in Tennessee was recently stopped by the efforts of NSAI. <P>Auction items include framed and autographed hand-written recreations of the lyrics of some of the most notable songs ever recorded in all genres of music, signed by the songwriters. Among the framed lyric sheets are: Johnny Mandel's ``The Shadow of Your Smile,'' Alan Jackson and Jim McBride's ``Chattahoochee'' Graham Nash's ``Teach Your Children,'' Harlan Howard's ``I Fall to Pieces,'' Joe South's ``The Games People Play'' and Hal David's ``Raindrop's Keep Fallin' on My Head.'' Other unusual items include an antique barstool with handwritten lyrics signed by the Cheers theme song writers, Gary Hart and Judy D'Angelo; an autographed pair of boots worn by John Prine at countless performances; and an autographed Chet Atkins guitar.
