BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 2000--DataPlay, Inc. today announced the appointment of Pat Quigley, former president and CEO of Capitol Records Nashville, to the position of senior vice president and chief marketing officer.

The former EMI-Capitol Music Group executive will be responsible for all marketing, business and corporate development efforts, reporting directly to DataPlay CEO Steve Volk.

``Pat's experience base with artists like Garth Brooks and contacts in the content industry strongly round out our management team that includes some of the world's top technologists,'' said Volk. ``Pat's addition takes us one step further in our commitment to simplify and standardize the delivery and management of digital content in all devices and across all platforms.''

Based in Boulder, Colo., DataPlay's consumer-driven innovations are inspiring and enabling the development of new digital devices and device categories. DataPlay's technology innovations include the DataPlay disc, an affordable 500MB disc the size of a quarter that will retail between $5 and $10 to the consumer; the matchbook-sized DataPlay micro-optic engine; and ContentKey, a content-enabling promotional, marketing and e-commerce tool. Working in partnership with leading content providers and consumer electronics manufacturers, DataPlay anticipates discs containing pre-recorded content to be on sale in early 2001, coinciding with the availability of DataPlay-enabled consumer electronic devices and blank media.

``Technologically, content producers are way behind the times. With one giant leap, DataPlay can bring the content industry into the modern age,'' said Quigley. ``I have always loved working on the content side. However, DataPlay offers an opportunity to have a more lasting impact on the future and strategic direction of the content business than is possible from any position, anywhere within the industry.''

While at Capitol Records Nashville, Quigley was responsible for the promotion and management of performing artists such as Garth Brooks and the Beatles. Under Quigley's direction, Capitol Records Nashville made Garth Brooks the first solo artist to ever be certified at over 100 million albums. Before taking the reigns at Capitol Records Nashville, Quigley was a senior vice president, marketing, for EMI-Capitol Music Group, North America, which included such labels as Capitol, EMI Records, Virgin, Capitol Nashville, Angel and Blue Note. Quigley also pioneered innovative promotions and marketing campaigns for retail music distribution with strategic partners such as McDonalds.
