Hey y'all. I dunno what it is with me and sad songs, but they keep comin' outta me. Wrote it at work...and it was SO hard to find time for it, too.
Anyway, the more I read it, the more I hear Mr. Jackson in my head...kinda like his song, "Here In The Real World." Hopefully y'all know of that one. Ya know it's funny...three years ago I didn't know what Alan Jackson looked like. *pausing in reflection*..."Thank You, Garth for 'introducing' me!" :):) Please Enjoy. :) (Any mention of the reference to Garth's TN town will be noted and quickly forgotten, LOL,...it just came OUT like that)
She threw her suitcase in the car
And cried, "You’ve gone too far"
He tried to say, "I’m sorry" in reply
But held his breath so he wouldn’t cry
The radio sang as she drove away
He closed his eyes and heard the music fade
The empty arms that swung by his sides
Picked up her memory and went inside

She drove until she reached Goodlettsville
Her dad was waiting when she rang the bell
He said, "I got a letter with your name
It’s from him, but read it anyway"
It said, "Every time you hear our song
Please stop and think of hanging on"
He doesn’t know what else to do
He’ll be the DJ of solitude

On WLM, World’s Loneliest Man
At twenty-four point seven
Only has one song to hear
The one she said would be theirs for years
He’s praying she hears his call
And tells him she’s forgiven all
Until then his tears will silently fall
At WLM

He’s keeping his vigil clear
He knows no one will bother him here
All his time is devoted to
Getting his message through
With such a careful hand
He puts the song on once again
And slowly counts his lessons learned
As he watches the record turn
