Heehee, Nelly, you're too kind. :)

I know I've replied to this one, but I wanted to add a little more to it than what was said.

In the class I'm taking right now, Survey of the Recording Industry, I've learned a lot about the workings of radio. They're catapulted by labels, major and independent, with demos and singles every week. And they only have a limited number of slots to add in their play lists because changing too many would shake their audience away if they don't find what they like after a short time.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the average number of slots open each week is around 7-10. That's small in itself, BUT it gets worse. That's for both known and new artists. More than half of the slots go to known, established artists, like Garth, because the station has an audience waiting for it. So, if I'm remembering this correctly, there's only 1-3 slots open for new artists, IF the station is convinced to even listen to it. This is where label support comes in with advertising and marketing...hopefully.

And all this is AFTER a writer makes themselves known, gets a publisher, and gets cut by an artist, or becomes an artist, in my case. lol

Pretty discouraging, huh? And yet, my answer remains, "I'm going to get my work out there after college." :)

Take Care,
NashN

I've been asked by several to submit some of my writing for songs - the problem being I read/play music (a very little compared to many) - I don't write it - I can hardly speak at times - much less sing - there aren't any good recording studios in my area - and lyrics alone aren't what artists are looking for when they ask for songs.

Once someone asked me to read one of my stories with a background of music - that would have been cool. However the sudden illness (and eventual death) of someone "froze" that idea.

So basically it's very difficult field anyway - and if the connections aren't there - and all of the skills - a lot of good talent (in general - not talking about me) goes unrecognizied.

And Nash - hopefully you will follow through with your plans. Your writing - you already have heard - I think is excellent.

It is hard, Brian. Like Tom Hanks says to Geena Davis in "A League of Their Own":

"If it wasn't hard, everybody would do it. The hard is what makes it great." :)

And thank you, Hawk, for the compliments again. And I agree with you that talent(in general) goes unrecognized. But, hopefully, I'll have just enough encouragement and ambition to make it through. :)
