Would you vote for Garth as President?N

If Garth were President... :)

In the April 1999 issue of "George" magazine... the late John F. Kennedy Jr.
asked Garth
"Have you ever thought about going into public life after your music career?

and Garth answered; "You mean into politics?"

John responded with a "Yes."

Garth explained,
"No offense to your family traditions pal, but I don't think they would let
me live if I got in there.
The system would have to change, and I really don't think they'd let me get
away with it.."

John asked: "With What?"

Garth responded:
"Well, first I would make sure we invested in EDUCATION and DEFENSE. We are
the PEACEKEEPERS of the world, and the more we educate our children and the
children of the world, hopefully the less we'll need the peacekeepers in the
future. We'll resort to thinking before we resort to fists.

Garth continued:
"Another thing is God. There are some TRADITIONS this COUNTRY was built on,
and one of them is "IN GOD WE TRUST." You can't take God out of the
schools. I understand about the separation of religion and state, but tell
me this: Why do we keep God in school only on the things that are
convenient for us?
Why does our federal government declare Christmas and Easter holidays? Why
does our money have "In God We Trust" on it?
Why is it everybody wants to get rid of God when it concerns the voting
thing but never when it involves the fun stuff, like vacations an holidays?
So, Yes, This country was built on certain traditions that should absolutely
stay in. God is what this country is built on, and without God I don't
think we're a nation."
-Garth Brooks-

*WOW*...now...Garth is the kind of Person I would vote for President! :)
could you imagine instead of a speech from the White House...there'd be a
free concert on the White House Lawn...:)
and we would all be singing "Belleau Wood"...the entire world....
*sigh*...
but...would you vote for Garth? and what would you expect out of him as
President?
it can be a serious response or humorous...:)

Of course I would vote for. Garth is already the world leader in music. He goes out there and gets the job done. And it all is built on the sure foundation of his faith in God. Could be he's got the keys to the whole world on him somewhere!N

I would vote for him in a second(not that he needed the pressure of public office). I agree with him 100% about our faith in God is the foundation of our country and we have gotten away from that. Prayer back in school is only a start. LisaN

I would vote for Garth if he were to run for President.

I hope he never would though! I only would do it because I'd want to support him in anything he did.

The politics of the music industry are hard enough to swallow. I don't think I would survive the attacks on Garth by political enimies in Government!

One things for sure, he most certainly would shake things up! :)

Can you just see the Inaugural Ball? Garth dressed in Cowboy hat, jeans, and a tuxedo jacket. The guest list... US!

Well frankly;

I'm not too happy with the idea of Hollywood for Garth and his family (tends to distort value systems). As long as they live elsewhere though at least some of the phony glitter that abounds in that place will have a chance to drop off at times.

The White House (especially after some of the bs that was allowed to continue during Clinton's admininstration is going to be a tense, tense place; especially if the parties don't start working together more. No. I wouldn't want that for Garth and his family either.

There is a lot involved with politics and some of it is enough to drive a sensitive, intuitive person mad - without a lot of experience and an ability to psychologically turn your back on the naysayers. Garth tends to listen to people and take what they say to heart.

Though I agree (and express) a lot of the same politics I think Garth is way too smart to even want to play that game on a regular basis. No, I wouldn't vote for him - that vote would be a mean thing to do given the realities of the office associated with the White House.

Plus he knows that being a good singer and entertainer doesn't mean he is the man for the job in all areas.
Ann...I could see Garth dressed like that at the ball...
and I can also see that Garth is our next hero...
I mean like the things he says and does... leaves you wanting more...like a drug...you can't get enough because you need more ... I just feel Garth would make the best decisions for the PEOPLE ... after all...he does keep us in mind and heart when he writes , sings or performs his songs...I know he has made me happy and millions more...and I believe he would make this world a better place.N

Diane,

I would also vote for Garth as a show of support of course. If he ever did decide to get into politics, he'd be doing it because it would obviously be something he'd want to do. But...I'd be afraid for him and worry myself silly constantly. Someone once asked him about the way he makes himself so accessible to people (like walking out onto a NY street- my words) and doesn't he worry about what could happen. He replied something to the effect that he feels most comfortable when he's around his fans. My problem is, if they're all fans that's one thing but on a crowded city street, they're not all fans and that worries me. As for the political scene, that scares the hell out of me!

I don't know about that Tommy, seems to me this dark world could use a little of Garth's light. It's awfully bright when he shines some light on things.

I agree with you Cheryl...I'd worry for his life too if he were a political figure...but IF it ever did occur and that's what Garth really wanted...then we'd stick beside him 100%....and how could anyone touch him? after all...we'd be his bodyguards! :P
I'd die to protect him...:)
wouldn't you?
I just believe in the ideas he has to make this world a better place...and I could live by those ideas...and get along with everyone in peace. And he's definitely right when it comes to God...and this great nation that is one under Him...who trusts in Him...it does say so on trillions of paper...I'm sure we could all find a piece of paper saying so in our houses somewhere! You know the piece of paper that is going to buy you lunch today...
Could you imagine our great-grandchildren spending money with Garth's pic on it? :) ;)
Because he was an excellent president!

With a dreamer like Garth in the oval office, how could we go wrong! And his State of the Union addresses beginning with, 'This ain't coming from no prophet, just an ordinary man....' LOL! If I could I would definitely vote for Garth as President - but how about Garth running as Prime Minister for the UK. He can't do any worse than our current one though I wouldn't expect him to come over here and live. I mean who would want to voluntarily. Except crazy people like myself. Its June and its cloudy, cold and raining. Belonging to Planet Garth is my sunshine.

No vote from me.. He wouldn't have time to tour and perform.:) I don't want an entertainer running this government. I would like somebody who has experience running a large business. Somebody who outshines all the other CEO's and can make the system work. Could Garth do that? Probably not.

It's ok Brian. I like Bruce too! I'm from the Jersey shore originally. I have a friend who saw him on the Island before he was famous.
Hawk, I guess Garth is wild and free as the wind, isn't he? He rides that range as our hero even now.
Mel, I had heard that too that Garth doesn't vote, but maybe there is another side to that story, I don't know.
As for Garth being 'liberal', well, in that George article he actually refered to himself as 'UNDENOMINATIONAL'. I guess he looks at politics from a slightly 'higher' view than most!N

Brian, Long Beach Island is a tourist area in the summer. The Casino's coming into Atlantic City caused the zoning on the Island to change in favor of building for bringing in more tourism if I remember correctly. It got to where if you didn't own a home you were out of luck as it got difficult to find a year round rental. The summer months made the rental owners big bucks! So I followed my parents down to Florida. I am going back in 3 months for a family reunion. Can't wait to feel my toes in that September Jersey beachsand again! It's the best time for the beach, and NO tourists!N

I just reread the entire article in George. Our man's dedication to God and country is so right on. Forgive me if anything that follows is a repeat of any posts.

"I can only be who I am-American and God-fearing. I know God is the reason for all things good..."

"..I'm very square. I'm very patriotic. I believe I owe this country for what I'm getting to do...but that's my gig. I love this country. I love what it stands for, and I love what it could be."

"We're going to have to get rid of the Democratic-Republican system, because everyone votes for things because they're Democratic or Republican, black or white, gay or straight-not because they are right or wrong."

"I've got to believe we're all more alike than we want to admit...we all have skeletons."

Those last two comments I threw together myself because they fit so well, don't they?
Could be we really, really need a man like Garth running this country. One who is honest and true red, white, and blue!
I remember watching a video recently where Garth played all star baseball with some other singers and actors. I'll never forget when the camera showed Garth facing the flag while they all sung the National Anthem, and everyone else was facing the microphone. He once again was a man left standing alone. Even among his peers.
Now, you tell me, with a heart at pure as his, don't ya think he would get pounced on to death by this 'great' nation? I tell ya, he makes some really good points in that interview though.
Thanks for such a great post Diane. Very thought provoking as to what drives our Man!N

I told Garth at Spring Training he'd get my vote if he would run for President! I couldn't believe I said it to him, but I really believed in those words...so.. :)
I forget his reply I was so shocked at myself! He's so humble I'm sure it was something like "naaaa Amy!" LOL

But I would vote for Garth for President and Sandy would be the finest First Lady, wouldnt' she?!! :) I just would hate how mean people would be to them, but then again, who better to stand up to all the meanies out there than GB?! :) Go get 'em Garth! He IS President in my mind! :) The greatest role-model in U S A History.

My Flag is flying outside today, in honor of our great Country and the soldiers who have died to give us this freedom. I heard Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA" today and also "The National Anthem" sung by some group the radio station didn't say, but they both gave me the goosebumps...and really made me do a salute to the Heaven's for blessing me to live in this Country. Amen.

Thanks to Ellie I found some great Garth quotes from Believer magazine articles she is posting on her cool site. How about posting the link Ellie?
But from Garth's own words, we can see he is already the world leader that gets the job that needs doing done. I don't think you necessarily need to be in public office to do do that.
He talked about discussing politics with Barbara Walters, and he told her, "I don't discuss that topic. I'm like everybody else on election day, you vote and you support whoever's in office. You give them encouragement but you need to speak out when you think things are wrong. We the people, still run the country and those that don't think so just aren't exercising their right to be heard."
I guess that means #1: Garth does indeed vote; #2: you rally behind whoever gets voted in; #3: speak out when you see something wrong instead of spending time putting them down how they do it.
As for where we are going, not just as a nation, but the world in general, Garth seems to have no doubt: "I don't think people are ready for the One World theme yet.Whether we are ready or not, one world is what we are becoming, and that's what this theme is about (We Shall Be Free), so let's all get together. The bad things are going to die on the vine and the good things are going to persevere."
Believer magazine was named such because "Garth has always been a big believer in his dreams and has always said if you believe strongly enough in something, anything is possible."
Oh yes, it would be great to see Garth 'running' this country, but it would be even better to see a Believer's dream such as his come true for all time! His way seems to be the way of the future. Out with the bad, in with the good. If it's not working, get rid of it! Admit defeat and start over, whatever it takes. I keep thinking of Chris' song "White Flag." That love won't stand a chance if alls we do is fight about it. Instead, send up a white flag. Oh man that's hard, giving in when you think you are right. But somehow, that's what Garth taught me when he did that DC concert and I so struggled with his decision. It was like the song, "Face to Face". I let the struggle be within myself rather than with those I disagreed with. When I did that, I found LOVE for those I disagreed with that I never felt before. All because Garth did what was what he called "the right thing to do." Let me tell ya, now that I made it through that struggle, it was more than worth it. I not only changed my tune, I got a huge heap of real love in the bargain. Thanks again Garth. You amaze me every day! Not only that, you make me amaze myself too! How do you do that? And what are we to do to help your dream come true? I'm learning, just like everybody else.

Found some more insight on Garth's vision for the world on the Garth Brooks Radio Special (1995?)
It is Garth's hope that the world would one day create a One World flag to fly one day out of the year along with a flag of the country you happen to believe in. Now, I don't think his idea ever has had a chance yet of panning out, but he brings up the even bigger issue that is at stake; "You want people to get along, but there's alot of reasons why we can't. And I think the main one is communication. And so I think the more, the quicker that we understand that we are the human race, and not a whole bunch of different races. Then I think hopefully this idea will come. (One World.) So it is for all of us that we continue this. So,uh,if it's through the music that it happens, so be it."

"When I close my eyes I see, how this world shall be, when we all walk hand in hand." Hmm..I think I'll just keep singing and believing along with Garth. He's got my vote!
