My thoughts (and hopes)...
Entertainer: Shania Twain (she has been everywhere)
Album of the Year: I think it'll be a strong battle between "Fly" and "A Place In The Sun", (but the latter deserves it by far)!
Single Of The Year: "Amazed" (Can't argue with 8 weeks at #1, and even 2 weeks running on the Hot 100!)
Song of the Year: I hope it's either "Please Remember Me" or "He Didn't Have To Be". Those were some of the best country songs I've ever heard. Some of the best songs period!
Video of the Year: Don't know, don't care. But I have a hunch the Chicks'll win it.
Female Vocalist: I think Faith will win it but I really like Jo Dee Messina. I would consider Martina but ever since her lame song "I Love You", I have lost a lot of respect for her :(
Male Vocalist: Tim McGraw (all the way, hands down no doubt about it. No other male vocalist could touch him this last year as far as chart success, record sales, media exposure, and puttin' on a helluva show!)
Vocal Duo or Group: I have to admit, it was the Chicks this year.
New female: Jessica Andrews on the basis of... I've never even heard of the other 2.
Top New Male: Even though he's not exactly brand new, Gary Allan. It'll probably be Brad Paisley, but Gary's cd "Smoke Rings In The Dark" is just fantastic!
New Duo or Group: Montgomery Gentry-- they sing some cool music, they are the next generation Brooks & Dunn.
Vocal Event: I really like Clint Black's song, much more than any of the other nominees.
Some final thoughts... I agree with many others, how did Sawyer Brown sneak into the Entertainer of the Year category? That's almsot like how Neal McCoy wins the EOY at the TNN/Music City awards. But they did more than Garth, and if Garth Brooks would have been nominated for another EOY award, I would start wondering who was paying off the voters. He had one measley song all year that didn't crack the top 20. Not to knock him, he was supposed to take the year off, so why should he be nominated? I just can't believe George Strait wasn't nominated for EOY or album of the year. Well, I guess it wasn't his best album, but overall most of the nominees were predictable. Is this bad? Of course not. The reason why they were predictable was because we've heard most of these songs and artists on the radio a lot. They've had big years, we know it, and they deserve to be nominated. No surprise. What happens when there are surprises? Like Sawyer Brown for EOY? Well, it means other deserving artists don't get the recognition they arguably deserve more than SB. Just my opinion.
N
