View Full Version : Dixie Chicks...Out Sellin' The Big Guys!
I just heard on the Radio that Last week The Dixie Chicks sold another 84,000 units....<p>Outselling Garth by 30,000 <br>And Shania by 15,000<p>I thought this was interesting as the Dixie Chicks increase their popularity...N

Personally, I think it's great...although you wouldn't have heard me say that when they first came out!<br>I was one of the first to jump on the band-wagon and call them "redneck Spice Girls."<br>However, it is that first single ONLY that I dislike. After the next two singles were released, I bought the album.<br>For those that don't own it, this could be the best newcomer "freshman CD" by anyone in a long time (especially by a group).<br>It's not to often a 1st CD by anyone has more than one or two decent songs on it. Well they have 2 #1's and 2 top 10's so far!<br>Go Dixie Chicks (although I would like to see Garth sell more).<p>What's up with Shania...WOW!<br>"The Woman In Me" 11 million!<br>"Come On Over" 8 million!N
I actually don't have the Dixie Chicks CD yet but as soon as I can it will be my next purchase....as Far as Shania Sales I think a lot of it can be contributed to her Crossover success she has made a lot of non-country fans recently...Much the Garth did with F.I.L.P<p>N

If I didn't like the Dixie Chicks already I would now.Anybody that beats MIss Thang has my vote.I don't necessarily like them beating Garth, but it has been a while since he released any singles.I wish he would hurry and release something new.Anything,I'm begging you please.:ON
I've liked all The Dixie Chick releases so far but I was like Jared after the first song came out,I took one look at them and thought they were trying to be some kind of Country Spice Girls(goes to show about first impressions).I bought the album for my son for Christmas and was suprised by how wonderful it was,its pretty much pure country also, was expecting a little crossover material.Unlike The Spice Girls the Chicks play their own instuments and write a lot of their songs and I really feel that they are the real deal and may be around for awhile.N

I've been so excited about the Dixie Chicks... I just enjoy them very much. I'm not thrilled with the fact they are beating "The Man" ;) but they deserve what they get! I hope they have a long career ahead of them, I can't wait for the next album.<p>PaulaN

I was with jaredev and MJ with the redneck spicegirls when I SAW them....can't judge a book by it's cover. I love their songs and I actually saw them live last November....I was very impressed. They sang their new single...it hadn't been released yet, it was so moving especially to find out that the 2 sisters wrote it. Now my mind went blank and can't think of the darn title! LOL When You Were Mine? Is that it? Anyway...I think they have great potential and I am going to buy their album as soon as I have extra money!N

These girls have worked hard to get where they are now. I don't know how many have heard this story, but they started playing 10 years ago on a street corner just as something to do in the summer. Their first afternoon they made something like over $100 in tips. That's when they figured out they kinda had something there. Anyway, I have a friend that can remember them playing at a little bluegrass festival here in Kansas several years ago. They're for real.N

I also heard the same radio report about the DC outselling the big guys. In fact this stat is misleading. Yes the DC have the top selling country album for THE WEEK. It is NOT however outselling Shania or Garth for the total album sales. Not by a long shot. The DC current album has been on the charts for a total of 53 weeks and has sold 4 million copies. In contrast we know Garth sold almost a million copies of Double Live in one week. Shania's COO album has been on the charts for 65 weeks yet is holding strong at number two and has sold a total of over 8 million. This following up an album (TWIM) that is over 11 million in sales. We also know that Garth's No Fences sold over 16 million. So to say the Dixie Chicks are outselling the big guys is misleading.I agree with hugeGBnutt lets see what they can do with a follow up album.N

O.k. I'm back to disagree with you guys' disagreements...or something like that!<p>History shows (in my opinion, in what I've purchased) that the second album isn't nearly as great as the first. <br>(e.x. Paul Brandt)<br>His first album had two great singles on it along with a couple other lesser known hits. His second album was a total flop! (airplay wise)<br>The difference is that on PB's 1st album there were two good songs on the whole CD.<br>The Dixie Chicks are on there 4th good song, and there is alot more potential left on this CD!<br>This is just my prediction, but if any new act is going be around for a while, it's going to be these gals!N

On my last Music Shopping Spree I bought the Dixie Chicks'; <i>Wide Open Spaces</i> and Collin Raye's; <i>The Walls Came Down</i>. <b>BUT</b><BR>I also got my second Limited Series and my 4th Double live at the same time...So it's not my fault<BR><b>It's all Garths fault</b>, I didn't even like country music 'till I started listening to Garth!N

Hey <b>Odexut77</b> what do you think about "Walls Came Down?" I usually don't like some of those "sobby" songs of Collin's, but I think that album is great!N

<b>jaredev</b>,<P>Ok, well what about Deana Carter? She had 4~5 huge singles in her first album, but she is doing poorly right now...<P>TommyN

I think they'll last. I've seen them in live performance, and they are really awesome.N

O.k. <b>Tommy</b>...I'm just seeing your reply today.<BR>It's funny you mention Deana, because I was going to use her as an example, considering she had the best "freshman" album in a long time.<BR>BUT give her time on this second album. Sure her first single only cracked the Top 20, but I have this album, and as I mentioned in the other thread...this CD won't leave my CDROM drive! I love the beat of this album...hopefuly everyone else catches on too.<P>I think that the fact that they're a group will give them a better chance.<BR>However, look at the difference between the first and second album of Ricochet.N

<b>jaredev</b>,<P>Hey, in fact, the new Deana's album was named one of the best albums this year. I forgot who said this.. :( Anyway, I like <b>absence of heart</b>.. I just don't get it why this song didnt' reach top 5, while some stupid songs reach to #1.. :(<P>TommyN
