Ok, after watching BillBoard Awards night, I hate her even more. I am very "petrified" that Lenn Rimes got nominated for ARTIST OF THE YEAR. Please, can anyone tell me how popular she is? What's wrong with the people in Billboard? If the awards were given based on selling (comeon we all know billboard it's about sellings), how could she possibly be nominated? What about Garth? I thought Garth has 3 new records for the Billboard: Limited Series debute #1; first solo artist to have two 14 million albums; fastest selling in a week for Double Live. Let's face it, I am very disappointed to hear yesterday's nominees. First, I was pissed that Garth didn't even get nominated for ARTIST OF THE YEAR; second, I was disappointed that "sevens" didn't win; third, Lenn Rimes's "how do I live" shouldn't get her that many trophies... Correct me if I'm wrong, is Ms. Rimes that popular in country? Well, it seems to me that her newest album hasn't reached 2 millions. What about Shania and Faith, or even Dixie Chicks? They didn't get nominated in the country category.
I have to admit that I have little respect to her because she seems to be the cockies young artist out there who doesnt care if she crosses boundary to sing duet with other pop artists.. Now I feel sorry for Garth because of those who complains about Shania, Faith, and Garth crossing boundaries. Sorry for this long rambling,,, but I just need to get this out; or else I won't be able to breathe.....
If any of you is Ms. Rimes's fan, I'm sorry that I offend you.
Tommy (Ms.Rimes hater)N

Wow Tommy, Hate is a pretty strong word! I am not a Leann Rimes fan but I don't get mad about Awards shows! I think you guys look too much into these awards. (and charts) I've heard Garth and many, many other artists say, the awards are nice, even just to be nominated, but they don't plan their careers around these awards!! I'm sure when an artist is writing a song or putting out an album they aren't thinking..."how many awards is this going to win me?" I just don't think the awards are so important!! That's the way I look at it!!! You're all aloud to feel the way you want, but that's how I feel about it!! :)
PS: In an interview a few years ago I heard Garth say when his career is over then he will display the awards he has been so honored to receive. So, he doesn't even put his awards out anywhere!! I think that says alot!!! :) N

Krash...you're right...hate is a strong word, but in this case it's o.k., because I hate LeAnn Rimes too! Honky & Brits got it right. It's not because she's crossed the line of pop music, because I still love Faith, Shania, & Garth! It's because her music sucks!!! Don't get me wrong, it was cute when she was like 14 singin' "Blue." Everyone calls that her big no. 1 hit. I've got new for ya, that song ended up no. 99 for the year...apparently people didn't like it very long. She's had a couple pretty good songs, but nothing to place her in a group of great artists like Faith & Shania! She's thinks she's on top of the world, but she's thinkin' wrong!N

I don't understand all the negativity toward LeAnn. I think she's putting out great music. She's one of the few artists that I still like.
I've been a hardcore country listener for about seven years now, and I really dislike what's happened to country radio over the last year or year-and-a-half. I CAN'T STAND TRACE ADKINS AND TERRY CLARK, and some artists that I used to like are singing watered-down crap in my opinion (for example: Mark Chesnutt, Alabama, Vince Gill, Sawyer Brown, John Michael Montgomery, Tracy Byrd, Faith Hill, George Strait, and I could keep going from there...).
Some of the exceptions to this rule (again, in my opinion) are Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes, Dixie Chicks, Lee Ann Womack, Lonestar, Tracy Lawrence; that's all I can think of right now.
Well, what I'm saying is, I like LeAnn Rimes. That's my opinion. However, I don't think she deserves the amount of awards she gets. But, most of the time I disagree with the nominees/winners of awards anyway.N

Ok, maybe the word "hate" is too strong, but I just feel sad about Faith and Shania in the country category. But, I'm still in bigger shock that she got nominated for "artist of the year"..oohhoo hello, is she that popular? I don't think so.
Well, like Krash said, the awards are added bonus to what Garth is doing, but I really believe the awards are a recognition of your career. At least, when Garth retires, he has something to look back and the number of accomplish he has made in country industry. I guess everyone has different values in those awards..it's ok this is "country artist forum"..we are all entitled to our opinions here.. :)
theking: I think Ms. Rimes has great voice and different style in her musics. I guess that's the part you like about her right? But, I can't understand the part that you don't like George Strait and Terri Clark. Frankly, I don't listen to both but I do think they have their styles.. I think Terri Clark is pretty natural when she sings. But it's nice how you mentioned those artists going downhills. N

Tommy,
My favorite George Strait songs come from his first two albums (Strait Country and Strait From The Heart). I think his best music was recorded between 1981 (when he started) and 1991 or 1992. After the Pure Country Soundtrack, I think he started to go downhill. Don't get me wrong... I still like some of his music that he puts out, but I don't think it is nearly as good as his earlier stuff.
The same goes for most other artists in my opinion. I think nearly all of the artists out there have been putting out albums lately that aren't nearly as good as their first albums. I just don't happen to like most of the music on radio thesedays; that's all I'm saying.N

First of all...nobody take this offensively!
This is just my opinion.
I think why people like theking and other think country music in general (including Strait) has gone downhill, is because country music has changed. From what I've read, I take that you've listend to country music for a long time! I, as well as others, didn't get into country into early, mid, or even late '90's. I didn't until mid, faithfully anyway. Today's music is so much different then what you started off hearing. The music has changed, and most artists have adjusted to be tangent. Personally I like the music of pop-crossovers like Faith & Shania. It's not that I don't like all of LeAnn's music, IT'S HER! I don't think country music has gone downhill. I think today's music is great, because this is the kind of music that makes me listen to it. I don't like when George Jones or some classical country singer comes on the radio. I like the new stuff. I would rather listen to George Strait's newer albums then his older "Strait" albums. It's just a different era and different music, from the same artists. I like it! Still I can see how someone who has listend for 10 or so years would disagree. Please correct me if this is wrong, it's just my opinion.N

theking: I have to partly agree with jaredev's post. I just got into country music this summer; honestly, I don't know much about countries in 80s~90s, so I prefer what I'm hearing today on the radio :) It's pretty obvious how Garth's country music changes from time to time; I think we all could notice the different from the first "Garth Brooks" to "Sevens". I think Garth's previous CDs are awesome and his recent songs are great too.
Well, besides Garth, Alan Jackson has some cute songs :), Collin Raye is pretty good; Vince Gill is "not ok".. He style is like the same throughout..
TOmmmyN

Ok, I usually don't like to slam anyone, but I just have to say a few things. LeAnn Rimes is not one of my fav artists but alot of the young kids really like her. I think alot of her nominations come from not only country charts but also adult contemporary and now christian charts. She does have a beautiful voice but she does not bring the experience and maturity to the table that Garth and others have. However, as a mom with 3 pubescent kids, LeAnn is someone I am ok with them being exposed to. In October LeAnn was in our town for a softball game before a concert. I was a bad mom and lied to the school principal that my daughter had an orthodontist appointment--just so she could see LeAnn play ball. We had a great time. LeAnn signed my daughter's cd and posed for pictures. I was so happy for her!! But when it came time for the $24.00 per seat concert I was VERY disappointed!! Not quite one hour of LeAnn for almost $50.00?!! Over two hours before her with Bryan White. He was ok but just doesn't have enough material for that much time. I like all kinds of music, from Aerosmith to Michael W. Smith, and I will tolerate LeAnn. She has alot of growing to do. I'm glad she didn't get Artist of the Year. What has she done this year to get that recognition? I'll just take my Garth, which is also a good choice for our kids to look up to. I really wish he would be awarded Male Vocalist of the Year!!N

YEah, exactly! What did Leann Rimes do to earn herself this recognition? Was it because of "how do i live"? Comeone it's just a song, and her recent CD hasn't even reach 2 million yet. Compared to Garth, she is very tiny. I still don't know why Garth was one of the nominees... still pissed me off.N

I absoultly cannot stand Leann! I couldnt ever since I first heard her. She sings practically everyone elses songs and she acts way to grown up for her age. I mean she is only like what 16? She needs to get out there and live a life. Take Lila Mccan for example, she is young and very talented and she is in high school and is a cheerleader, she is living a life someone that age should be. If you ask me I dont think Leann has that great of a voice I mean somtimes its ok but then it like breaks or either her accent really kicks in or somthing.N

Ok, I won't offend anyone and say I hate her...but I really, really, really, REALLY dislike her a lot!! Garthgirl is right...she acts WAY too grown-up for her age! Plus, she has a huge ego! She walks around thinking she is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then all we ever hear about in magazines is how much "stress" she's under, or how she's so "distraught" over her parents' divorce. First of all, why doesn't she live like a normal teenager...stay in one place and go to a normal school! Plus, I think she was the cause of her parents' divorce...I am so sick of hearing how she is so upset over it! Trisha should have been up there receiving the awards for "How Do I Live"...LeAnn didn't do a country version of that song, she converted it to pop! And, she comes on stage on TV wearing these TIGHT clothes...not exactly a good representative of "country"...if she is country! N

First: I think she needs to take "How Do I Live" and shove it because Trisha showed her how it's supposed to be done!
Second: She was on Leno last night and 1) I wanted to puke when she came out with that pig-face of hers & 2) I wanted to jump through the screen and slap her cause she's such a !@#$%^&*().
garthgirl is right about Lila...she's cool!
Why can't Leann act her age, or maybe she is and that's the problem???N

i actually like some of her songs. ive seen her in concert twice and she does have a good voice - for her age. BUT, it'her attitude/personality that i truly hate. she tries to be too grown up and i think she really comes off sounding like b*#!% most of the time. i heard her inteview on a pop station today and it was like they were inconveniencing her by asking her questions.
she needs to take a lesson or three from the g man on how to treat her fans.N

WOW, a couple of you guys stand on my point of view.. Yeah, I think is too much for her age!! She is younger than me :( So, she better stay home and visite Planet Garth. Let us to teach her a lesson suitable for her "age"..
jaredev, LeAnn was on Jay's last night? I should have watched...and do the same thing that you want to do--yes, slap her (that's the funny part).. N

LeAnn Rime? Is she the one who does the "Got Milk?" advertising in Country Weekly? Man, she looks OLD okay. I can't believe she is only about 17 year old. Did she inject some kinds of super-growing medicine to make her look like she is about 25? Well, I don't hate her because I only heard one of her songs "How do I live".
Trisha VS LeAnn? Man...please don't insult Trisha this way. Trisha is 10 times better!!! I also think Martina is great. Well, I guess LeAnn is famous because she is young. Other than this reason, I don't really know why she is so famous for.
N

I have been a country music fan whole heartedly since the early 80's. Although the music has changed over the years, I feel that it has done nothing but get better.
I can't understand what all the fuss is about from some fans and entertainers. Those that have carried on from the beginning and have kept up with the changes have only benefited, as far as I'm concerned. In some ways, some of those entertainers sound better now than before.
I know for certain that some of the new country format of music and such is keeping me young! (But...I'm really not that old either...lol)
I'm sorry, but, I too dislike Leann Rhimes a whole lot, She may have a good voice for her age, but, the attitude has got to go! And, I've never appreciated the fact that she comes in singing everybody elses material.
Here's to the now and the future of Country Music!
N

I have all LeAnn albums and I like her music very much. I also think one of the nominees it should Garth. Maybe LeAnn was there because her version of "How do I live" stayed at the 100 single for 69 weeks. She made a new world record. We all have to accept it. But I have not doubt that Garth and My Shania had a better year than her.
N

Hello...I agree with Honky and all the above people...although HATE is a very strong and harsh word...I can understand it. I feel it towards LeAnn and Shania...the way they have used country's good name and basically made a public mockery of it, is disgusting! Shania is on MTV, VH1, etc...she won't choose her place in music...not saying she has to since I have no right nor sya in that...but her song "From This Moment On"...have you heard the pop version she made?? Its basically bass, and beat, and FAST UPTEMPO..with her singing slow...LeAnn Rimes has done the same thing...maybe without even knowing it. She has always been very immature inside her "adult" disguise. But it is defiantely understandable being she is 16 years old! Y'all are forgetting a TRUE country great...Reba...what do you think she feels like? Working so hard for 20 + years to become the best she can be(and earning the title of Queen of Country)..yet these two come in here and basicaly ruin it..I feel bad for legendary artist too...seeing what country has become. Thank God we have people like Garth, George, Clint, Reba, and Martina who keep it country!!
Thanks :)
- Sonia Lynn AKA Lil RebaN

I don't mind LeeAnn but I am pretty annoyed that here, in Ireland, and in England she was incredibly succesful with "How Do I Live"
and the original singer, Trisha Yearwood didn't do at all well. Although I did like her song, what's it called?- "Blue"....I think!N
Actually the people making the movie "Con Air" approached Leanne about recording "How Do I Live" for the soundtrack. She recorded it but it just wasn't what they were looking for. They let Trisha come and sing it and were blown away and decided to use her version for the movie.Personally I like Trisha's version better but I can understand why Leanne was a little bitter.N

Tommy...LeAnn's version was recognized by pop radio, and just like a Shania song, it done well.
LeAnn's version was no where to be found on the country charts, and Trisha's version went #1.
I guess it's a perference between pop and country, and I by far like Trisha's version better!N

Did anybody here the duet of "How Do I Live" by Trisha and LeAnn. This was an unauthorized mix of the song with both of them singing on it. I think it was incredible!!! Some stations wouldn't play it, but I like it much better than either Trisha's or LeAnn's individual version.N

Tommy...just some little things make it sound pop to me, but I agree they are very similar. LeAnn alone, looks more pop, and so did the video. Trisha was already labeled as country, and LeAnn was the newbie who was an imbetween.
thekine...Why did they do a duet?
Personally, I wouldn't want to hear any song with LeAnn it...I can't stand her!N
theking: I never heard Leanne and Trisha's remix but the stations in our area do that sometimes. They did Allison Kraus and Keith Whitley"When You Say Nothing At All" and Sammy Kershaw and Teri Clark"You Are The Love Of My Life".Sammy and Teri were totally awesome.N
