I have been to numerous concerts by artists other than Garth, and while no one can even compare to GB, some were very good shows. I am interested in hearing some of your favorite concerts. They don't necessarily have to be country. Some of my favs are:
Aerosmith
George Strait
Tom Petty
Dwight Yoakam
Wallflowers/Counting CrowsN

Garth is the only singing concert I went to.. he is the best! ^_^
I am still looking for more of his concerts after the year 2000...Well, I have attended a musical concert of Duke Ellington Orchestra. God, those Jazz players were absolutely phenomenal.. I am not sure if a Jazz concert includes in your topic. Anyway, I just feel like to share my wonderful experience with all planetgarthers...
TommyN

Well aside from Garth, I have seen Ty England, which I posted that story on another thread and in the early 80's I saw Gloria Estefan before she was really famous, that was an awesome show, actually that was the first concert I had ever been to!! I love concerts!! :)N

Well, putting the best entertainer of all time aside, I will have to go with the following for my favs. I would like to say that no one comes close to GARTH!!
~Rhett Akins/Little Texas
~Tim McGraw
~Clay Walker/Diamond Rio
Since I can't go to Tampa :( to be with the Garthman, I am doing the next best thing....going to see Billy Joel on Nov 1st.
I have a feeling he will be an addition to my list, especially if he sings Shameless! ;)
N

Well, I will list all artists I've seen and then pick a few as the best. This will help you to understand who I've seen and who I haven't.
Seen:
~ Suzy Bogguss/Dwight Yoakam
~ Little Texas
~ BlackHawk/Tim McGraw/Little Texas
~ Woody Lee
~ Neal McCoy/Tracy Byrd
~ Rick Trevino
~ James Bonamy/Martina McBride/John Michael Montgomery
~ David Lee Murphy/George Strait
~ David Ball/Dwight Yoakam
~ Ricochet
~ Robert Earl Keen/Chris LeDoux
~ Lonestar/Tracy Lawrence
~ Chuck & Rodeo/Garth Brooks
~ Chuck & Rodeo/Garth Brooks
~ Trisha Yearwood/Garth Brooks
~ Lee Ann Womack/Faith Hill/John Michael Montgomery/Tim McGraw/George Strait (George Strait Country Music Festival)
~ Suzy Bogguss/Ricochet
* Plus I'll see Alan Jackson with The Wilkinsons on November 12th.
Aside from GB, the best entertainers were RICOCHET, Neal McCoy, and Chris LeDoux, in that order. Tim McGraw and John Michael Montgomery come in after these three.
Aside from GB, I had the best time when I saw DWIGHT YOAKAM, Ricochet, Chris LeDoux, Little Texas, and Rick Trevino, just because I'm so "into their music".N

The two concert experiences that I have had that could even come close to Garth were Neil Diamond and Bob Seger.
My first concert ever was Neil Diamond in nosebleed seats behind the stage and he was phenomenal. He totally played the back of the stage like Garth does and the energy of the crowd at ND concerts is almost at the level of GB.
Bob Seger, well what can I say. He is such a rocker and I was so into his music that I had the time of my life. It's very cool to know that GB is a fan too!! My favorite tribute song I 've heard Garth do is "Turn the Page"!N
Heres my list:
Jo Dee messina--She has a lot of energy!
Tim Mcgraw-- great show!!
Jmm-- Man this guys awesome..

But Garth is Tops on my list!
Your Friend in Jersey Places,
DougN

Hey all! Well, you know Garth is the best!
But my picks after him would have to be -
1. Sammy Kershaw - The best!
(Seen him at strawberry festival)
2. Sawyer Brown
(Also saw them at the same strawberry festival, I love it! They are so great!)
3. Charlie Daniels
(saw him at the starwberry festival here in Florida, he was awesome, lots of energy!)
4. Jimmy Buffett - Of course he's always great! :) Seen him twice.
5. Dan Fogleberg - Seen him twice so far, last time was a very intimate acoustic tour he did here in Tampa at the performing arts center. Just him and an acoustic guitar and a piano sitting on a little stool talking to us like we were all old friends, it was great!
6. Tanya Tucker
(Seen at strawberry festival)
7. Randy Travis
(Strawberry festival)
These aren't in the order of favorite, couldn't pick that, I loved them all!
I can't wait till the starwberry festival starts again next year, there are always great acts in town for it, hope Garth will come soon. :) It's only 10.00 for reserved seating and 6.00 for parking.
I have tickets to see Neil Diamond on Dec. 21st! Can't wait since I saw the above post saying how great he is in concert, never seen him before, but have always loved him. Got the tix as a surprise for my boyfriend for Christmas. :)
Tracy
N
Well I've only been to 2 concerts in my life and they are both Garth.
But there is one person I wanted to see who was practicaliy in my hometown Neil Mc Coy.
He played at a casino in Laughlin NV. He seems like he would be pretty fun to watch.
I missed my chance because I had to work.
Any body on here know where Laughlin is?
djN

Amy played for 2.5 hrs. Driving home in spring blizzard was no fun though.
Wade Hayes, Kenny Chesney, Archer Park, Belamy Brothers, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Clint Black-- Country Jam Eau Claire. -- All these for $45 and a bad sunburn... great shows
Faith Hill-- LaCrosse Center-- Got to meet my sweety Awesome show.
Ken Mellons, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw-- St. Paul Civic Center-- What a way to spend new yrs eve!! Got to see Faith backstage again!!
Faith Hill, George Jones-- Tomah County Fair-- Did not like the way George did half songs, but better than I thought he would be.
All 4 One-- La Crosse Center-- great harmonies, a must see
Manheim Steamroller-- LaCrosse Center--Great instrumentalists.
Weird Al Yankovic-- LaCrosse Center-- What can I say??
LeAnn Womack Treasure Island Casino-- Nice show, but couldn't take pictures
Kenny Chesney, Kevin Sharp, LeAnn Rimes, Bryan White, Wynonna--Country Jam Eau Claire-- Good shows from Kev, and Bryan, and Wy. I have only seen a few(four of which were Garth), but after him, I would have to say David Kersh. He puts a lot of extra into his shows, like Garth. I just saw an article not too long ago that quoted him as saying Garth was a big influence of his. It definately shows. He was great. CrickettN

i have seen several other concerts besides the man. there are a few that come close to gb. bryan white - lots of energy, sings album cuts and covers, not just his hit singles. of course he hasnt been around that long. that is the one and only thing thats not perfect about gb, he doesnt do any album cuts from the old stuff. just one would be great.
wynnona - energy and great report with crowd
travis tritt - same as Wy
vince gill - combines great energy, music and comedy. also puts on one of the longer shows. even brings his daughter out sometimes.
N

I went to the Garth show in Memphis, and nothing can compare to him. But I have also seen Ricochet, Doug Stone, Alanis Morrisette, and Matchbox 20.
Of these, Matchbox 20 was the best non-Garth. Interesting note, they did "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys in concert." Nice addition to the show.
But Garth is still The One and Only!!!N

Aerosmith was a very good show, those guys are crazy. Steven Tyler did a back flip and the guy is what 50 yrs old. Shania also puts on a very good show. She has a great stage and did some different things like a magic trick and was carried out into the crowd on a platform. Journey is a pop group that was popular in the 70's and 80's and is making a comeback tour currently. I had second row seats and although they really didn't have much of a stage show the music was awesome.N

We have been lucky enough to see a number of country artists even though we live on Long Island. Brooks & Dunne, Clint Black, The Mavericks, Kenny Rogers, Alabama (every chance we get, Michael Petersen, and I'm sure I am forgetting some but the best(other than GB) was Martina McBride. I always thought she sounded great on the radio and CD's but Live- wow! All I can say is that I was in awe!N

I just saw Clay Walker with Michael Peterson and the Dixie Chicks over the weekend. I would highly recommend this show if they come to anyone's area. Michael Peterson actually came out through the whole arena and shook hands with everyone. It was "very cool"!
Just wondering, anyone who has been to see Shania, what is her stage set-up like and how long does she usually play for? I got tix today to see her on 12/19. It sold out really quick. Looking forward to it!N

Just saw Alan Jackson in Albuquerque. Very impressed. Didn't expect it to be so good. He sang lots of his old songs (which I like better). He did an AWESOME unplugged set where the drummer used just a snare drum and brushes, the bass player used a stand up bass, fiddle player played fiddle, and most of the rest played acoustic guitar.
He also did a segment where he sang songs that he's written for other artists, including "If I Could Make A Living" by Clay Walker. He also sang one he wrote for Faith Hill call "I Can't Do That Anymore". For those of you that don't remember the words:

quote:
Cut my hair the way you wanted
Watched you become important
Quit my job to make our new home far away
Now you're Mister Successful
And I'm Queen of the Treadmill
Trying to stay the size you think that I should stay

Very funny...
:0N

I've seen Reba so many times...a couple without Brooks and Dunn, and a couple times with them. Reba is an absolutely phenomenal entertainer!! She has toned her show down a bit since her skiing accident, but it is still great!! The first time I saw her, she had a taxi cab come out on stage, tons of dancers, skits to go with some of the songs, and for "Fancy" she flew around the building on a podium!! Brooks and Dunn are great, too. They have a big blow-up skull (their trademark skull) shake around...it's so neat!!N
I have attended many concerts including Garth.Some of the best non-country have been Bob Seger,Rod Stewart Phil Collins and John Fogerty.I am going to see Aerosmith for the first time on Dec.9th.Most country artists I've seen numerous times but a couple who have never dissapointed are Travis Tritt and Brooks & Dunn.I've seen everyone from AC/DC to ZZtop(which was very good).I even saw Keith Whitley before he died.One person I've never seen that I want to see is Vince Gill.I just seem to always miss him when he is in town.To the person asking about Shania's concert it was pretty awesome.Everything is choreographed great.The stage has a lot of little tricks going for it,you'll see many suprises.N

I can't believe it! Hasn't anyone seen Chris LeDoux in concert? I think he is one of the best performers. His concerts are a lot of fun because everyone usually knows the words to his songs and is singing along with him. Also, how many country artists do you know have pulled out a bucking machine during his last song and got on it for a real eight second ride?N

I'd like to see Chris Ledoux in concert. I don't believe he's been in my area, at least I haven't heard about him visiting us since I started listening to country music about five years ago.
PaulaN
The first time I saw Chris Ladoux I hardly knew who he was,but I became a fan very fast.His show is very high energy.I would like to see him again also but it seems as if he never comes to the midwest where I live.I can't believe that on my previous post for best non-Garth concert that I left off The Boss Bruce Springsteen. He played for four hours nonstop and it was awesome.I believe it was in 1991.N
Wynonna's shows are fabulous. Every one is different because she interacts with the audience a lot, to the point of getting them up onstage with her. She's very kind to kids, jokes with the women and usually picks out a man to bring up onstage and tease. It's a riot! Her live singing is spine-tingling, plus she has the greatest band around - half white/half African-American. (Garth has used her 3 backup singers on TV - when he can get 'em!). I felt sorry for Michael Bolton when she toured with him. She got fantastic reviews and all the critics were saying too bad he couldn't be as great as her. Even with audiences full of women with crushes on Michael who didn't know country music, she instantly won them over.
Saw Trisha for the first time 2 weeks ago. What a difference! She barely looked at the audience, just flapped her fingers at them now and then. Guess she's shy, even if she sings well. She opened for Randy Travis. What a voice he has! Made the bass speakers rumble!N

I've never been to an actuall concert before, what can I say I'm from nowheresville Ohio :) Pam Tillis was supposed to come to O.U. and perform last year, but she cancelled cause tix sales weren't high enough, I was hyped to see her perform too. I saw Joe Diffie last year though, he performed at the Athen's county fairgrounds. Didn't really get into that much, but no one in the crowd did.
My dream is to go to Jamboree In The Hills on of these years. 4 days worth of country music, mostly the top stars. Y'ALL ARE MISSING OUT ON GARY ALLAN!!!! He is hands down the best show after Garth if you are looking for real country music(ok he is gorgeous, and that doesn't hurt his shows either!) JLB, I knew I'd see your post for Gary on here somewhere. Other good shows I've seen are Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, and Andy Griggs. Kenny is really good if you can catch him at a small venue, he really gets into the crowd's vibe.N

Ok, I may date myself here, but I've been to tons of concerts and the very best non-Garth were Genesis & Queen. These were back in the very early 80's. Also I've seen Elton John a zillion times...he puts on a great show. Recently I saw Brooks & Dunn & Reba & thought that show was awesome. At Fan Fair 1999 I loved Diamond Rio & Wynonna.
BUT...I saw Garth twice in 1998 & NO ONE compares to him!!N

It's like comparing apples and oranges - the artists are hard to rate against each other. I like different shows for different reasons.
For pure enjoyment of a variety of country performers;
A mixed concert where too many of the young artists to be named presented(including LeAnn Rhymes - a sweetie)
For the reaction of the crowd and the musical selection;
George Strait (and friends)
For the dance and costumes;
Cher (and friends).
For the smallest audience in a comfortable setting;
Diamond Rio
For a fun group and cozy friends sitting;
Rain Kings
For humility, talent and comfort of all;
Alan Jackson
For an outstanding performance at a celebration of ethnic groups throughout the world;
Liverpool
That's enough for now though there have been others that come to mind including Willie Nelson.....and other "outlaws"

HawkN
