Hey!
I did a road trip in early Oct. from Arizona to Florida. I took I-10 all the way. I had to rescue my 10-yr old from my ex. My son wanted to come home to me, and my ex wouldn't put him on a plane, even if I paid for it. The police could only help me if I was PHYSICALLY present in FL to get him, even though I have full custody. Anyways they did escort me when I got to Tallahassee to his house! The nerve of that guy! Did he doubt I'd come and get my child? Yes, he was surprised! My daughter helped me drive the roundtrip, 4000 mile journey, in 4 1/2 days. We listened to the new C D all the way!
Anyways, what really was the highlight of the trip, was when I was driving through Houston late at night, and Tiffany was sleeping, I got through the city, and all of a sudden I saw - Garth Rd. 1 mile ! And then there it was! I wanted to take a picture of it! Then not more than a couple miles later came a sign saying Brooks Rd! Then, "To Make You Feel My Love" came on the radio. It was "very cool!" Tears came to my eyes, and I knew I was doing the right thing! On the way back, I said to the kids before we got to Houston, "now first you'll see Brooks Rd., then we'll see Garth Rd.!" Does anyone live near Houston here? I'd like to know if they named these roads after Garth! They're east of Houston on I-10. Very cool, Houston! No problems with Houston by me! :)
God Bless.
Amy ;-)N

Amy, that is too cool! :) Garth always seems to come along at the right time in our lives. You definitely did the right thing.
God bless you and your family!!! :) :)N

Thanks G-Man! :)
God blessed us with a safe trip, and a happy reunion! I also met a policeman in Mobile, Alabama on the way back who had just seen the NBC taping of the Chris Gaines Special. I was talking to him because I was stuck at a gas station in some bad fog around 2 a.m. He loves Garth, and loves Chris Gaines! I met alot of very nice people on my "journey"
By the way, the policeman said he couldn't wait to get the C D! He thought Garth was making the right move with this project, and fully understood it. Awesome, eh? :) He said ,"Garth really can rock! I like it!" He said "Right Now" was a very good song!
Amy ;-)N

Amy,
WOW, a policman likes Garth? That's really cool! Oh well, I should have known this better too :)
This same kind of thing happened to me last summer. To make long story short, a police heard the songs off "Ropin the Wind" and he asked me if I listend to "this stuff". LOL.. of course he was kinda shocked to see a Chinese listening to Garth's :o Guess what happened next? I even told him that Garth was having a concert at Seattle!! HE REALLY WANTED TO GO! :D
TommyN

Yep,
I live in Houston and I am very familiar with Garth road, I once thought of taking the street sign down and giving it to Garth, but I doubt I will be meeting him soon or maybe not even ever so I guess I will leave it up for now. :)N

Oh,
I don't think Garth Rd is named after the G-MAN because I am pretty sure it is a old road that has been around here for a while. :) N

Ahh, that's very cool about seeing the Garth and Brooks street. I'm glad you are home with your children ok. :) That reminds me of what happened last summer(98) I went back east to visit family. We went to Hamilton,ON and on one of the main streets we were on, I was shocked to see it was named Garth St. LOL. My dad was driving and I nearly scared him to death cause I screamed 'Garth St.' :) Then I gave my sister heck cause all this time she knew of Garth St and never told me. lol. Also that first day in Mississauga we went to a grocery store and what was playing TMYFML. :)There were a lot of little Garth coincidences when I was back east. I never posted about it cause I didn't want to bore anyone, which I probably just did. lol. Sorry. :)
Have a Garthriffic day,
Ellie :)N

Kris is right, Garth Road is a very old road, I asked my dad about it; He has lived in Houston all his life. He said he thinks Brooks Road has been there just about as long, too. But it is still cool that Houston has those two streets. And Kris, if you want the sign, look behind the barn at the lake some time!N

Well we don't have any Garth or Brooks Rd. here that I know of. But we do have tons of signs on the interstate for emergancy assistance. The sign reads Call #77. I never noticed this before until I was driving to the airport to go to Spring Training. I think my boyfriend's dad thought I was nutts. I told him, man I wish I could Call #77, meaning Garth of course, but he didn't find it funny. N

Tommy, even policemen like Garth. I'm married to one who does. Although he does get tired of hearing him and hearing about him and hearing his name screamed out. :) Glad you got your son home safely, Amy. N

Amy so glad you have your son back. :)
About Garth Rd. I have driven down that road everyday for 20 years now in Baytown Tx. the last 10 years every time I see the sign it reminds me of the g-man. Very proud to have a road in our town named after a great man, even though it was there before we all knew of him. 20 years ago there was nothing their at I-10 and Garth Rd, now its booming. Thanks for remembering our town on the forum.
PGer
PattyN

Thanks everyone! :)
The stories about the history of those roads were very sweet! Wow, did I bring all of the Houstonites - is that what you would be-or Houstonians? :) Here in Phoenix, we're called Phoenicians! :) We have no Garth roads, but let me tell you something magical! Just to the east of the Peoria Sports Complex, where Garth played with the Padres, there are two streets that intersect and dead end right into the complex. Guess?
They are "77th" Ave. and Paradise Lane! :) I took a picture of that intersection and gave it to Gsrth! A better camera would have been nice, but you can still make it out! I'll have to post that pic somewhere!
You guys are too funny! Call #77! Get that street sign! :) And what a great way to start a day, driving on Garth Rd.! Houston had a premonition! Magical city! Thanks all!
God Bless.
Amy ;-)
N

Gee whiz,
I really need to proofread a little better. In the above post I wrote Garth's name Gsrth.
Better yet, I better get to bed! I've been in the E.R. with a sick daughter for 6 hours. Tiffany has strep throat, and she was supposed to sing Thursday night, for her being inducted into the High School Drama club's International Thespian Society. She was to sing "Amazing Grace", but now I guess I'll have to show them a tape of her singing! She's sooooo sad! :( I'm still making her laugh though! :) N

Talk about a trip down memory lane......
I just thought maybe someone in Houston could get pictures of these roads for the Tribute Book being made for Garth. That would be very cool!
Now, the picture of 77th AVE and Paradise Lane I can obtain. ;)
*Hint Hint* ;) Nelly, Y@nkee?N

Technically, the town I met the policeman at was in Daphne, Alabama, where the winner of the Backyard BBQ was from. And this event happened a long time after I was there, a few months at least. This is not far outside of Mobile. I sure hope he was one of the lucky who got to go to Garth's concert there! That would be too amazing. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm..... :DN
