View Full Version : Where can one by the type of hat Garth wears?

11-27-2014, 10:29 AM
I tried looking on Stetsons site but could not find it. Any ideas?

I believe he used to wear the "Tyler" line of hats from Stetson. I seem to recall he switched recently to a different brand. Although, I could be wrong.

You can find the Tyler hat on Amazon, eBay and in some other places too.

The line appears to have been discontinued. I looked through several western shops online and a couple show it "out of stock" but others have removed the page.

Someone suggested that his new hat may be a Larry Mahan mostly due to the buckle on the band. But there are a number of makes and models with that type of band. I've seen it on some Larry Mahan hats, but also on cheaper Justin hats and of course Stetson. My guess is that it is one of the various Stetson models. Possibly this one.

I would like to have one too. Maybe this information will help someone identify the brand and style of the hat. I noticed at one of the concerts in Atlanta, and on the Wynn DVD concert that the hat has a cream colored sweat band on the inside. The hat also has a purple lining on the inside. I'm sure a purple lining isn't too common on hats, so maybe that will help identify it. If someone finds out the brand and style, please post here so we'll all know.

He used to wear a Stetson Tyler 7x Beaver felt; I suss he now has his hats custom made in a similar style as they now have the purple lining rather than white that was evident in his earlier career.

It could still be a Stetson or other mass produced brand. I have a white 6x Stetson that has a blue lining.

Here's a shot I got of G holding his hat. I can't make out the name on the inside but you can at least see the interior. I also have a few that show the buckle pretty well.

Hope those help. ;)

Hey guys i think i found it. Is it the Stetson 6x Skyline?

12-03-2014, 04:11 PM
I thought it might be the Skyline as well, but from the pictures I have seen, the buckle on Garth's doesn't appear to have any black in it like the on on the Skyline. Also, from the pictures I saw online and on eBay, the skyline has the common white Stetson lining in the hat.

If you match the black hat in the second picture with the Stetson Adair they look like a perfect match. Although, it could be wishful thinking on my part. lol

I definitely think it is a Stetson, just not sure exactly which one. I looked at a variety of hats at Sheplers tonight, and although I was unable to locate one that meets all of the criteria established so far, I found each individual element between different hats. The Stetson Bar None for instance had a purple lining, but a dark brown sweat band. The El Patron had a cream colored sweat band with a white lining. Darkcountry may be right about the Adair, or I was also looking at the Shasta 10x which has a little bit taller crown.

Here is the best picture I have found of the inside of the hat. I would like to find a close, clear picture of the hat band buckle. One of the main problems in finding the hat is that most online hat stores do not show a picture of the inside of the crown, so I can't see the lining color.

I looked through my photos of Lexington and found these pics where you can see the inside of the hat he's wearing that night.

Looks to me THIS one has a black band (gold logo visible in the one pic) and no liner. Don't know if this is an older hat that's seen quite a bit of use.

I think somebody had it right forever ago in another thread when they said it was a particular Larry Mahan hat. I've not seen the inside of the one that was mentioned, but it might account for the discrepancy in band and lining color from Stetson, because it's not a Stetson. He's wearing that brand shirt, why not the hat?

12-05-2014, 06:27 PM
Yea, he does wear a lot of Larry Mahan shirts now. Someone mentioned that it might be the Larry Mahabharata Good Ride hat. However from the pictures I've seen, that appears to have a black and white lining. Also, it has a four piece buckle on the band. Garth's appears to have a three piece buckle.

All of the Larry Mahan hats I've personally seen had little red jewels on the band buckle.

If it is a Stetson hat, It could be one of the following styles:

1. Monarca - Unlikely, but possible. The buckle is probably different, but it's hard to tell from the Garth pic's I've seen.
2. Adalante
3. Adair
4. Deadwood - Best chance of being it. Buckle appears to be close to the same, but as I've said, the pic's of Garth's isn't good.

There are probably some I missed, but I found a lot of others with the same type of buckle and hat band, but I found pictures of the inside of them and the lining wasn't purple. I could not find pictures of the lining in the above mentioned hats. I would love to see the inside of the Deadwood hat if anyone finds one.

Well..... it's not the deadwood. I ordered one and it had a white lining.

Go to the world tour thread- there's an interview where Garth says he wears a Stetson Beaver 4x!

12-13-2014, 12:34 AM
BLL, are you talking about the Little Rock interview? That one mentions he wears a Stetson Tyler. That is true, he has worn that brand and model for years, and still wears it sometimes. Stetson has quit making the Tyler. However, the one he wore on the new album and wears in concert is different. Maybe it's an old one because i can't find it for the life of me :( Maybe it's not even a Stetson

I was going through my Chicago pictures again earlier today and I came across a photo of the inside of the hat, name and all. I forget everything it said - the band said Cavenders I think? - but I'll post a link when I get it online. ;)

12-17-2014, 08:51 PM
Yes..... please post link or PM me the pic. I'd be very very grateful

Here is the link to the photo. It should allow you to zoom in high-res. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lowlitephotography/16048930471/in/set-72157647555101801

The inside reads Cavender Rodeo King. Unfortunately the actual specifications are on the other side of the band that isn't photographed. It looks like either one of these to me. I know G likes the low crown:

Hope that helps some!

Just curious.. what kind of camera do you use???

12-18-2014, 04:10 PM
I use a Panasonic Lumix. It has an f/2.8 throughout which, I'm not sure if you know the technical aspect of cameras or DSLRs, but that is really great! If you ever need a camera, I reccomend it. :)

12-18-2014, 08:37 PM
Which Lumix model? Seems to be many models across the line like mine. Is it a micro four thirds?? I'm using a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III, f/1.7-2.8 (24-70mm) .. The guy at the shop was trying to sell me on the four thirds camera with detachable lens when I was shopping, but didn't want to get invested in another system... I have lots of EOS lenses for my Canon T2i DSLR plus didn't want to risk (even if it was a smaller camera) to run into an issue at the venue with detachable lens.

garth_fan_13, you are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much. You just solved what I've been trying to figure out for weeks. :)

If anyone is interested, i ordered one and I have received it. I can confirm that it is the Rodeo King Low Crown 10X Suede hat from Cavenders. A link is below.
