Hmm, it seems Mr and Mrs Brooks are suppoting each others pet projects. Trisha joined Garth at Habitat builds and now he's helping out Starkey. How cool are these two people?

Good find.

I think it is so great that Garth goes out and does things (sometimes performing) for charitible causes without a lot of press and "fanfare". If it wasn't for little snippets from local news sources, and on the internet, very few people would know about how much Garth (and Trisha) give (in time, perfomances and money) to charities. It says so much about their character when Garth and Trisha don't seek out publicity for their charity work.

Wow, I had no idea about little Colleen. No wonder he is so passionate about this cause. I'm still soooo jealous I couldn't be there. God bless Garth and Trisha and their efforts in this very worthy cause. :applause:

they've (starkey) helped one of Garth's daughters?
it said so in the article:

"Brooks also gave a sincere thanks to Starkey founder Bill Austin and his wife, Tani, who helped out his youngest daughter, Colleen. She had lost 35 percent of her hearing and, at age 12, was outfitted with a Starkey hearing aid."

whoops! didn't see the page 2 part.. :D

good to know that he's supported a charity/organization that has blessed him personally with help for his daughters.. I wonder what her condition is/was that caused the hearing loss?

On that article, I had to comment with something totally unrelated. It says in the title Jon McLaughlin..... We have a meteorologist at a news station in Des Moines named JoHn McLaughlin..... Didn't think that was too common of a last name, but....

Allie Colleen I'd imagine, his daughter..

Though, could've been his mom I guess!

how did she loose her hearing?

Skywise
06-21-2008, 11:11 PM
I have no idea myself- could be congenital defect, some disease as a kid, loud music (I know I know, she's young so that's not too likely)..

its prob. a condition of some sort... who knows to be honest....

BLL

There are many reasons one can loose hearing: recurring ear infections, loud noises, high fever, water behind the eardrum, perforation of the ear drum. Ususally in children its ear infections and high fever. I have a 10% loss in my left ear as a result of scarlet fever at age 5, which wasn't discovered until I was in my teens.

Viruses can also cause hearing loss. I'd guess that it was a congenital anomaly.
She was just born that way. Just a guess.
