EVENT INQUIRY OF INTEREST
Teammates for Kids Summer Appreciation Party -July 16th & July 17th
Caesar’s Palace -Las Vegas, Nevada

Dear Amy,

It was great talking with you earlier today. We would be honored to feature a participating child and his
or her parents to represent First Downs for Downs Syndrome at our July event. This is also an ideal
opportunity to showcase unique elements about your charity and how it directly supports children.

Brief Event Description

Our two-day event on July 16th & 17th celebrates contributing athletes and donors and is hosted by
Teammates Co-Founder, Garth Brooks and the Foundation staff. The most memorable part of our
celebration continues to be the Kids Program, which will take place on Thursday July 17th. The program
features a video presentation about each child and their respective organization. Then, each child and a
parent or escort will have a moment on-stage with our hosts Steve Levy and Barry Melrose from ESPN.
Steve and Barry will ask each child about their favorite things. It’s truly a special moment, that’s
rewarded with some well deserved applause for the kids!

The Kids Program requires a child age 6-11 with that “Something Special,” a great smile, an
outgoing personality and an ability to be comfortable with our hosts on-stage
Needed about participating child by May 9th, 2008:

-Phone, address and email contacts for family or guardian
-20 photos of the child; some individual and several with family and friends
-Video clips on DVD are greatly helpful if available
-A one-paragraph bio describing the child, their special connection to the charity and health information
-A list of favorites: hobbies, foods, movies, sports, their friends, achievements, awards etc

Needed about your organization by May 9th, 2008:

-20 photos of children participating in your camp programs
-Video clips or promotional video on DVD
-One-paragraph bio describing the charity’s focus and how it helps children (Sample Bio’s Below)

Teammates for Kids will pay for the following:

-Airfare re-imbursement and cab fare for participating child and up to two additional people
-Accommodations at Caesar’s Palace Hotel in Las Vegas
-Entry to all events and a daily per diem for Wednesday and Thursday

Note: Because we’re unable to accommodate additional guests, a post-event D.V.D will be compiled
for your records

Thanks Much Amy for your time and effort! I will send an official invitation to the child and parents
upon your
confirmation of a selected participant!

Kindly,
Kathy Pettit,

Special Projects Director, Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation

Not sure if it works the same way as a couple years ago. But, I called and even got a ticket for 500 bucks a couple years ago...then Caesars called back and said it was only for Garth's guests and I couldn't go. They did refund my money.

Maybe this one will be different?

How did you two get tickets to this event?

Bee

I got an invitation from Caesars Palace. It was a fluke that I found the invitation online because I hardly ever check my account on their site. I immediately called to confirm which is lucky I did, because I didn't get the actual paper invitation until about 10 days later in snailmail, and it was already too late for everyone by that time. I heard there was a lot of people upset to get the invitation in the mail only to find out it was already unavailable. I know I would have been inconsolable.

Della620

Chili - I won't know my seat assignment until I get the tickets on Thursday from my generous co-worker.

CountryBee - that should also answer your question...my co-worker is a high-roller at Caesar's and was comp'd the tickets. She has no interest in Garth, but is fully aware of mine.

We just got back from Vegas today, and I am sleep deprived and jet-lagged so I will try to post a few details for now....Garth was awesome!!! He played every song of his that I wanted to hear except for "Shameless". He had some pro athletes from "Teamates for Kids" join him on stage, one played the drums and one sang and Garth was telling jokes about them and himself all the way through. He was very funny and entertaining even when he wasn't singing.

He opened with "Rodeo" and when the crowd went wild , he told us to relax, sit down and save it, because we were going to need it...he said that after going from 300 shows a year down to 2, that we were going to be here for a long time....of couse that made everyone applaud ever louder..lol

At one point Trisha joined him on the stage and took over..she told him to get off the stage and it was her show now..she was so cute and told him that she had a career before she married him...she sang "She's In Love With The Boy" and " "How Do I Live Without You" to a little girl from TFK..I was hoping she would of sang "In Another's Eyes" with Garth, but she didn't.

To my surprise they let everyone bring cameras in and I have a few crappy pics that I will try and post...if I had known that, I would have brought a better camera, but I thought they would have made us check them in like they do with all other shows at the Colosseum.

The Rodeo is a great song. I totally understand why the crowd went wild. But relax at a Garth show? He gives you the energy to keep the whole show lol

Yes, it was an awesome show. I saw Trisha the next night and had front row seats right in front of her. Garth flew out on Friday morning for something going on in New York with Billy Joel that she said would be televised at some point but she wasn't sure when. She was awesome as well. I had 3rd row seats at the concert with Garth and have some great pics and will try to post them soon.

I bet if there was a website that allows to put videos clips up, there will be some of Garth from his performance in Las vegas, it would probably be a clip of the song rodeo or something.

I guess the clip would be about 56 seconds long also, and dont be fooled by a Garth impersonator with the title Garth in Las vegas, that clip would be about 3 minutes.

If only such a site existed.

PS: The clip is not at my blog.

I'm not exactly sure what Garth said after that, but he was joking a lot throughout the whole show. It was very clear that he has a great relationship with the pro athletes from Teammates For Kids. Garth said that they had a private party at the pool at Caesars the night before, and that is supposedly where one athlete said he could play the drums and Craig Terrell said he could sing. Garth made it appear that he was challenging the athlete to play the drums, and he certainly came through. I think Garth made a joke that real human beings don't play drums and that you have to be an animal. There was a lot of fun bantering between Garth and everyone. He was just so humble, witty and extremely likable. I think even if you weren't a Garth fan before the show, you certainly were afterward.

What a great story TR! Your son is a very handsome young man. How great that you both got to meet Garth and Trisha! What was the reception like? I got an invitation to see Kevin Costner at the House of Blues in Atlantic City. I didn't even know that he had a band..lol

thunder rolls
07-25-2008, 01:33 PM
thank you all for the nice comments !

The reception was pretty neat, it had free food, drinks, etc. There was a silent auction with ALL kinds of sports memorabilia. There were a bunch of different players from various sports there, but I didn't recognize any of them. lol

Then, about 2 hours into it, that's when Garth and Trisha showed up! They walked right past our table, I thought my son was gonna pass out! It was great! He was just so excited to be in the same room as Garth, as I was! Garth and Trisha just checked out the stuff in the silent auction and then Garth went up on stage, talked about the Foundation, introduced this little boy and his Mom, the little boy has been fighting cancer and had to have one of his legs amputated. It was really sad!

Then, after that, is when 2 ladies from the foundation came over to our table and asked Scott if he would like to meet Garth, my son just said "sure", I think he was in shock, I hid this whole thing from him for about 2 weeks, (meeting Garth).

We talked to Garth & Trisha for about 5-10 minutes. Garth couldn't understand why he didn't meet Scott back in 1992. He asked me what Make A Wish had told us. We were told that he was "too busy". Garth shook his head and said, no, I am NEVER too busy for a child. Then I told him, that it was because himself and his music is what inspired my son to walk again- he got all teared up, and shook his head, no. I said "yes, Garth,it is because of you that my son is walking", he just hugged me and Scott. It was a moment that I will NEVER forget!

Then,. Garth and Trisha were just taking pics with a lot of people, and that was the end after that.

The concert the next night was just awesome! I had never seen Garth perform like at this show. He was really funny, cracking jokes, etc. He even did some songs from Bob Segar, Merle Haggard and others that I can't remember right now. It was a great time!!!

Ok, now Kevin Costner - Chili, are you going????? He really does have a good band. I have seen them twice now. I even got to hug Kevin once! :)

You can keck out a myspace page that I set up honoring Kev - it's

Thanks so much for the kind words. It really means a lot to me.

I was just so devastated when that all happened. I NEVER left the hospital , for 2 months, my Mom used to bring my then, 18 month old daughter to the hospital for one day on the weekends, so I could see her a little bit. It was THE HARDEST time in my life. Oh, here is a video of the 1992 make a wish celebrity tennis classic that featured my son, I told Garth about that also, and he didn't see that either. I wish there was a way for him to see this video, but I doubt that will ever happen. This video makes it look like Scott met Garth, but no, make a wish supplied my sons new outfit, limo, dinner and the concert.

Well, here's the video. This is what I sent the foundation just to prove my story.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2tlbeb5LZC8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2tlbeb5LZC8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Scotts father, had left us shortly after this. He couldn't handle the whole illness, so he booked. :( - that left a permanent scar to my son - he didn't see his father for about 13 years, and my son as of last year, found the ass! It makes my son happy, so I am happy for him.

That is so cool that you saw the video already!

I had to put it up on youtube so then I could send the link to the Foundation so they would know that I was legit, if ya know what I mean. There were 2 ladies at the office that REALLY put an effort in making this happen for Scott !

I hope that we meet Garth again one day, then I would give him a copy of this video. MANY years ago, I tried to send a copy to him, I think it was through the Beleiver mag, but it was returned, so idk?

My parents raised me to be forgiving, although they haven't forgiven him. lol - My ex didn't even call the kids, nothing - for 13 years! My youngest, is 15 now, she hadn't seen him since she was 1 1/2. She is NOT forgiving like I am. She just met him last year and she REALLY HATES him. I try to tell her to forgive, but she won't. She feels that there is no excuse for what he did. She is especially mad at him because he left Scott when he needed him the most. She is right about it, but I forgave him. I just told her to give him a chance, she has seen him 3 times in a year, that's it, she says he gets no more chances. She said that she never wants to see him again, so that's fine with me too.

Unfortunately there are people that handle their problems by running away from them.. it’s his loss.. he missed out on precious moments with you and his children that he can never get back. I admire your ability to forgive him.
I’m so happy that you and Scott finally got to meet Garth in person as Sandis said he could not have known.. Garth “too busy” for a Make-A-Wish Child.. no way that would ever, ever happen.
The pics!! I forgot about them.. going there now :)

My Mom which is 79 years old now, just thought it was REALLY horrible that Garth was "too busy", I told my Mom that I don't think that he could have even known about it. "Don't blame him" , I told my Mom for years! lol ! I always said that "one day" it will happen.

Now after all of these years, and I spoke with Garth myself, I know that he didn't know anything about it, which is pretty sad! He seemed like he felt really bad about it.

It seemed to have worked out for us though, as Scott is much older now and has a memory of meeting Garth that will last his lifetime! He may have not remembered too much about it back then as he was just SO sick! It all worked out in the end!

yeah, you are right. Since he don't remember much of the concert, it's better he met Garth now, when he can enjoy the memory whenever he want :)

Scotts father, had left us shortly after this. He couldn't handle the whole illness, so he booked. :( - that left a permanent scar to my son - he didn't see his father for about 13 years, and my son as of last year, found the ass! It makes my son happy, so I am happy for him.

Ok pass me the Kleenex. What a touching story, that I am so happy to hear had a happy ending. Your son is very blessed to have you for his mom. Thanks for sharing that video.

TR, I forgot to add that I am not going to see Kevin Costner in Atlantic city. I am just not familiar with his music, plus I spent a fortune the week that I was in Vegas..lol

I guess this is going to bring me out of lurker mode (seems I haven't posted in ages, but still check in pretty much every day). What an amazing story! I'm so happy things worked out for you to meet Garth!!!

Now after all of these years, and I spoke with Garth myself, I know that he didn't know anything about it, which is pretty sad! He seemed like he felt really bad about it.

I'm sure Garth did feel bad about it. If the request had made it to Garth, it would have happened then. People also know that about him, and probably try to "protect" him from getting overwhelmed with requests like that. That's actually something that's been on my mind a lot recently, as I've thought of trying to get a msg to him for someone.

Our Chicago Wolves won the Calder Cup championship this year (which was amazing to be there to see!), and it wasn't until watching the tape of all of the post-game celebration & interviews most fans found out what our captain, Darren Haydar, had been dealing with this year. It turns out his girlfriend, Sarah, had been fighting throat cancer, and they presented her with the game puck from that final game. Without most of us ever knowing about it, she's been an inspiration to the whole team. I don't know how she's doing now, as they really didn't get into it much. I'm hoping she's now cancer free & moving on w/life. But ever since finding this out, I've kept thinking, Darren should talk to Garth!!! I think it would help just to talk to someone that could understand what he's going through. Just a short phone call could mean a lot.

Anyway, this just made me think of sharing my crazy idea. I just don't know who I could contact that would actually GIVE Garth the msg! I do know we won't see Darren back with the Wolves however. He just signed with the Red Wings, and will most likely play w/their AHL affilliate in Grand Rapids. Thank God we don't play them too many times, because I'm going to hate having to see him on the opposing bench again, like we did back when he played for Milwaukee! I'll still proudly wear my Haydar jersey when we do play them though!
