View Full Version : Question for KC concert "experts"

02-25-2008, 12:00 AM
I was recently lucky enough to get the guitar that Garth gave away at Sunday's KC show..

My question is:
How many guitars did Garth give away in KC and on which nights?

On a sidenote: I havent been to PG in a while, and just listened to the collaborative song from several of you guys. GREAT work!!!

We were there for the Sunday show and saw you get the guitar. What a great moment. We were also at the Sat. show and he did not give a guitar away (that I recall). Again, congrats!!! Good for you!

I actually got the guitar from the guy you saw. His boss wouldn't let him off work to go see Garth so he blew off the idea. That Sunday afternoon a friend of his offered him an extra ticket on FLR 1, Row D.. He payed someone to fill in for him at work, and the rest is history..

I went and saw the Saturday day show.. Section 115.. It was amazing!

Oh...now I'm confused. You weren't at the Sunday show? Did he sell you the guitar? Wow..talk about priceless!

Yeah he got the guitar and sold it to me.. He need some extra money, and I of course wouldn't pass up the opportunity! I still can't believe that I have a guitar Garth played in KC! I'm just trying to figure out how many other guitars he gave away..

I was there Thursday, Friday and Saturday and he gave one away Thursday. Hope this helps.

Can you upload a pic of it?

Yes, and that kind of loyality is exactly why some performers stop being generous! Nice that you got the guitar, but sad that they young man could be bought out!

I've attached a pic but my camera phone sucks. The most notable difference is that the neck strap button on the side has been moved to the back.. I dont know why Garth has it like that..

The guitar didnt come this way- it was definitely customized.. Also, there is an extra neck strap button on the backend of the guitar..

Well anyway, the guy is very nice and needed some money- and he doesn't play guitar.. I think its better with someone that will appreciate it! :)

Andy - that is great!

that's cool!

I love my Takamine GB-7c..

can you upload more pics?

How awesome. Yeah, I'd NEVER sell a Garth guitar, I'd play it though - it would mean more to me to use it than to throw it in a glass case and hang it on the wall (and you can buy cases like that if you're curious, haha) - but I'd use that thing until it was down to its last sliver!

02-26-2008, 10:37 PM
That is so cool...what I would give for one.

02-26-2008, 10:39 PM
well, I know that if you have a spare $1400-$1900, you can get one direct from Takamine (kaman music)

02-26-2008, 10:43 PM
Oh I know that...I mean a Garth played one!

02-27-2008, 01:01 AM
ahh- well I doubt that can be measured in price! :D

Theres links to more photos at the bottom. I love the way the tuning knobs look!

I also linked to a quick snippet of audio played with the guitar.. It's like 5 seconds long. Can anyone guess what song it is? Hint: he played it really recently. Oh, and I suck at guitar so its a real challenge! :)

In case anyone is curious.. You can verify that a guitar was actually "Garths" by calling Takamine and telling them the serial number inside the guitar. They keep track of guitars purchased directly by Garth / his management.

nice WSBF rendition there on the guitar!

it looks good!

02-27-2008, 01:04 AM
How the hell did you answer that quickly.. That's insane!

02-27-2008, 02:05 AM
heh- I was on PG at the time I got an email notification of a new post..

Garth has the strap peg put on the back so all you see is the black finished part of the guitar strap, not the raw side as you would if its on the side. Plus by being on the back, the guitar hangs better against his body when he flips it around to his back.

The pin for the strap of my guitar is on the back too, which was a major consideration believe it or not when I bought my guitar. Luckily enough, I found the exact guitar I wanted within my price range at a pawn shop basicaly new with the plastic still on the pick guard. Recently I saudered it and fixed all the problems, now the pin keeps coming loose! So I'll have to super-glue it or something. The funny thing is, if you've seen that video of me playing "The Hockey Lament" RIGHT before I stepped on stage the pin started coming undone and the guitar fell to the ground, so I had to tighten it with a pick and tune it up really quick.

Well-played version of we shall be free! I have to learn to get better. That guitar is in amazing shape, I assume he gets a new one every time he plays.

I'm not so sure. I was watching some of the dvd from TUH, and in some of the concert footage, it always seemed like there was this spot of lightly-colored wood on his guitar. Maybe he gets his guitars like that, but I don't know.

I think he plays them until he gives them away (or breaks them?!).. On the back of the 2nd Limited series box set booklet, theres a pic of him standing with the guitar looking back.

In that photo, it looked like it had a big chip out of the bottom of it, as well as other scuffs and chunks.. Appeared as thought that guitar had been through a few rough shows!

The one I have has scuffs/scratches on the back where his belt buckle rubbed it.. Thats about the only noticable wear. A few scuffs below the strings since there's no pickguard (don't know why he chooses to not have a pickguard!)

he gave one away on Friday if I remember correctly.. and I think there's a post somewhere about that one possibly getting sold as well.
I hate to hear it.. and would think it would only discourage him from doing this in the future.

anyway, did he say why it didn't get signed?

Just curious because we saw him and his friends getting escorted backstage... they were REALLY excited (who wouldn't be? LOL) and someone stopped them at the curtain and was telling them to calm down before they would take them back. thought for sure he'd be getting it signed..
someone later thought they saw the guy in first aid though... hopefully he didn't pass out and miss his chance to meet Garth. We assumed he passed out from meeting him. LOL

Just really surprised to see it not signed.

Congrats on getting it!! glad it's in the hands of someone who appreciates it!!

The took him backstage to get the case and that was basically it. (I would be perfectly OK with even that!!)

Anyhow, he didn't get to meet Garth.. You won't hear him complaining though. :)

I admire all you people who are blessed wih musical talent. I'm very happy to see that "priceless" guitar is in the hands of someone who truly appreciates it. Thank you for the pics and the song and sharing your story with us Andy.
