Hi gang,

I thought it would be cool for us to write a song from us to Garth. I have the first and last verse written but would love to add some more in the middle.
Hope you like what I have so far. If anyone has any other ideas or adjustments to what I have so far, please feel free to chime in. It would be great if we could make this a group effort and then somehow get our song to Garth.

Here's the first verse:

Operator, please connect me to 1989
When Garth blew in to Nashville
and we all lost our minds
Four chords of "Low Places"
were all we had to hear
to know that country music
had just "shifted gears"

Here's the ending:

So thank you to our G-Man
for giving us the chance
"for a moment all the world was right"
as we shared "The Dance"

We'll all leave the light on
til' you come back again
It's gonna be a party
and we won't let it end!!

Great Idea, Monakayla! For what it's worth, here is an addition to your song. Hope you like it.

From KC to LA
It had been ten years
He blew us away
With song, laughter, and tears
It only took one guitar strum
And voices from around the world
Were singing as one.

Thanks summerwind16,

Here is the song in progress we have so far. Let's let some more verses come in and try to work it into a song that is singable and that flows well together. Any ideas, edits, or additions are welcome. We want the end result to be cohesive. We also do need a chorus!

Chorus, anyone?

"You say your career's at half-time
So we all wait patiently
And listen to the music that has set our spirits free
Its that fan-and-star love story
A connection that's true
Have faith, dear Garth, you're in our hearts, we'll still be here for you"

Cool idea...now you just need someone to come up with the music. I'll venture a title - Still Here For You.

We waited ten years.
You erased all our fears
Brought us to tears.
Said the words that were music to our ears.
“If you wait for me I will be back”.
You sent us message through a bonus track
Our lights shine bright.
We know when the time is right.
You will return to our delight.
We will wait.
No matter how long it takes.
We will be there for you
No one else would ever do.
While you are being the best Dad you can be.
We will be waiting patiently.

Thanks Paula. The original song I sorta started from was Randy Travis' "1982". Garth sang this song during one of the LA shows. I changed the date because Garth was "class of 1989". It would be cool if someone could eventually put some music to it. I think this is long enough now. Lets just
see if anything needs some fine tuning for flow, singability, and continuity.
For example:
When I did the first verse I said "Low places" instead of "Friends in Low Places" because it seemed to long and a break in melody. Sometimes you can edit, change, or cut words for flow without losing any real content. I changed "He blew us away" to YOU blew us away in the KC/LA verse. You really do look at every word.

If we were to get this thing done and the whole crowd could sing it to Garth during a show I think he would love it. It think it could even be a "knees moment"!

Let the feedback/critique period begin...

If there are any other people who want to add to this, please let me know.
I want everyone who wants to contribute a verse to be able to do so.
The above can be our "song length" version. We can always have another version that everyone can add a verse to no matter how long it gets. We'll find a way to get both versions to Garth so that he reads everyones heartfelt thoughts. I'll start another thread for "the long version".

I should sing this for us and put a video on YouTube - but I think we should change up the tune instead of singing it to 1982, any opinions? It almost would fit better to "Rodeo". Our own tune maybe?

I only changed a FEW things, but here's how I'd do it - I also changed it so that it transitions from talking to the operator to Garth, just so it makes more sense:

Hey mister please put me through to 1989
When Garth blew in to Nashville
An' we all lost our minds
Four strings of "Low Places"
Is all we had to hear
To know that country music
Had just "shifted gears"

GB, You swung from ropes and flew
With your life and health at stake
But the music and the love
Is what made it all so great

Chorus:

"You say your career's at half-time
So we're waitin' patiently
An' listen'in to the music that set our spirits free
That ol' fan-and-star love story
A connection that still rings true
Have faith, dear Garth, you're in our hearts, we'll still be here for you"

From KC to LA
It had been ten years
Since you went an' blew us away
With laughter, song and tears
It only took one cowboy hat
An' voices from Yukon to Dublin
Ten short years but everybody was singin' all as one

So thank you to our G-Man
For giving us the chance
"For a moment all the world was right"
As we all shared "The Dance"

We'll all leave the light on
Til' you come back to us again
It's gonna be a party
An' we'll be damned to let it end!!

Yeah, it's gonna be a party
An' well be damned to let it end!

...

and enjoy a good ride

Lucas,

If you are going to You Tube this and sing it, sing it to the tune you want.
It's all about what flows best with the lyrics we have. This is just about a way for us to give something back to Garth. We almost need to hear this to really see. Looking forward to that link! Thanks, Man!

Thank YOU for joining in. This is a gift to Garth from all of us. I'm still looking forward to seeing new verses on the other thread for "the long version" too. The more people who get in on this the better it will be. We need this "song length" version, but the other one can be more of a readable song with anyone adding a verse. On the other version, I think we should just leave every verse in unedited.

So I put it to chords as well as I could. Some words are slurred (sorry, can't resist moose tracks ice cream - and it makes you bad at singing for an hour, haha). There are multiple times where the words don't quite fit, but I squeezed them in there to keep your lyrics as close as possible.

Let's hear what you think.

I had a lot of things to do today, but this took priority!

I thought the message at the end was more than appropiate. I even resisted putting my website and myspace address on the video, haha. (But if you want to add me: myspace.com/lucaswynne and lucaswynne.com)

HOPE EVERYBODY ENJOYS IT!

Hi gang,

I am sorry to report that jturtles version of Still Here for You has been taken off of YouTube due to a copyright claim by Pearl Records. If you go to the link that is the message displayed. I do not understand why our friends at Pearl Records are doing this. Hopefully we will get to the bottom of it and figure that out. What we all know in our hearts is this:

This particular song is a song written by members of a fan community to honor and show some love to an artist and a man that we love. It is not a song we are trying to market, profit from, or sell in any way. Would I love to hear this on the radio? YES. Do I think it is radio worthy? YES. Would I care if we did not get any credit for or profit from this song being on the radio? NO. I would just be greatfull to know in my heart where this song came from. I would just be greatfull to know that Garth knew where this song came from. I would be greatfull that the song gives a voice to the increadble group of people out there that feel the same way. We were just trying to do something good here. We were not trying to step on any record company's toes. Hopefully the record company will reconsider their copyright claim. If there is a particular thing about the song that is problematic that we could change, I would love for a representative from Pearl Records to tell us what that is.

Hang in their gang! If Garth gets the message one way or another that is all that matters. He WILL get a copy of these lyrics and he WILL know where this song came from... the hearts his garthnut fans here at planetgarth.com!!!!

They haven't taken mine down.

If there was a picture of Garth, that's probably why.

I hope if they'd like mine to be taken downt that Scott Borchetta or somebody at the Big Machine team would e-mail me and let me take it down myself. They have my e-mail, I snatched the Valory Music Co. myspace site for them.

Honestly though - if Garth has a problem with it, I'm more than willing to take it down.

Monakayla
02-11-2008, 06:03 PM
Hi Lucas,

I know. I can't imagine Garth having any problem with it at all. He does have an image of Garth on the screen, but I don't think it is an "official" picture that he would not want us to use. There are many other videos on youtube with garth on the screen. I am really at a loss. This song clearly has not been out there until we wrote it. Glad to know that it has touched peoples hearts out there. I think we should all be proud of that.

It's probably too late for another verse but here is a little international flavor. It can always be the extra verse that only ever gets performed live!

In 1997 you flew across the pond
Because with the Irish you had such a bond
They loved you then, they love you still
And many lights keep burning,
Until the day that you return,
For that they keep on yearning.

may cut and paste your verse wherever you like. Feel free to post it there.
This is our song length version. The other version is the "American Pie" version! I do plan to get both versions to Garth as a gift from us. I plan to
frame a copy of the song length lyrics and make a booklet of "the long version" and get them to Garth as a gift from us. I encourage you
and everyone else to add to "the long version".
