I love to buy compilation CDs of music by various country artists, but I don't know why Garth Brooks' music never appears on various-artists CDs. Is he against the idea?

Those type CDs are put out by labels. Because Garth owns his own Masters, the labels don't control them and thus can't put them on the CD and Garth has never given release for them to be included. To Make You Feel My Love is no longer on the Hope Floats soundtrack for example.

I have a couple compilation CDs with Garth on them. I got it through BMG Music club. I was very surprised when I saw them because I never saw Garth's stuff on compilation CDs before. There are rare instances. :-)

Yep, there's a few exceptions. There's a few with duets on it, like Whatcha gonna do with a cowboy is on several. But the last part of his career he pretty much put an end to it.
