Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z's concept album American Gangster will debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, moving over 433,000 copies its first week in stores. The album fended off a number of high profile releases, including Garth Brooks’ Ultimate Hits collection, which landed at #2, selling 355,000 copies. R&B sensation Chris Brown’s Exclusive took the #3 position, moving just over 300,000 copies. Philadelphia rapper Cassidy's album B.A.R.S. landed at #10 moving almost 70,000 copies. American Gangster is Jay-Z’s 10th #1 album, officially tying the rapper with Rock & Roll legend Elvis Presley for the most #1 albums.

We may not like Jay-Z, but him and Garth have more in common than you think:

Jay-Z’s American Gangster was nowhere to be found in the iTunes Music Store after he yanked the album, despite the fact that it had been available as a preorder. The artist/executive made the move in opposition to Steve Jobs’ policy of not allowing album-only sales. Said Jay-Z, "No one can dictate to an artist, any artist, how they should express themselves." He further noted that "as movies are not sold scene by scene, this collection will not be sold as individual singles." The rest of the rap superstar’s catalog remains in the store. (11/14a)
