When I Get Where I'm Going is a great song. :) I'm glad he was recognized with Dolly.

Sad.

Chris Cagle puts out a great album... nothing.

Garth puts out a box set with awesome material and industry shakeup tactics... nothing.

Trisha ... Jasper County.. GRAMMY NOD... nothing.

can anyone say rigged? :p

Who's paying the ACMs?? (The Music Mafia.. I guess...) LOL

I'm just kidding....

I am glad Craig Morgan finally got a new artist nomination. He has put out consisently good stuff and this is the first time a major award shows has recognised him.

Unfortunately, as Chris Gaines pointed out, they still haven't recognised Chris Cagle's talent.

I'm impressed Gary Allan got a couple of noms!

However... Trisha deserved it. Wouldn't have surprised me a bit if she didn't win--that seems to be the story of her life--but she deserved the nominations.

Oh yeah, Gary Allan was fully deserving also.

'Georgia Rain' should have been up for Song and 'Jasper County' should have been up for album, but hey ho...

I've been out of the country mainstream, well since the NYC area's country station went Spanish around 2002! So question is, is this the first Satilite Radio nomination ever?

If so, well, the future is now becoming today...

I believe it is. :D

Even more special (for me) is that Jon used to be one of my local d.j's... and he was "let go" because he actually played music that we wanted to hear. The horror! :p

Clear Channel can bite me. :D

I am sorry Garth didn't get any nominations for "The Lost Sessions". I think that is a winner album!!
But I'm really glad Brad Paisley got 6 nominations. He is my favourite after Garth. :)

HA! During the final weekend or so of Y107 here in New York there was a request for a song that was a not-so-subtle jab at the owner's decision. From a song and artist rarely heard on current country radio. I'll just quote it here

"Big city turn me loose, set me free. Somewhere in the middle of Montana..."
-Merle Haggard

The final song played, very cliched at this point though, "The Dance"-Garth Brooks. Would have gone with a more angrier song, or something that wasn't so final, but what are you gonna do

Were there enough songwriters for Baby Girl?

Sometimes a BAND will credit the entire group for the songwriting, and involve the entire band in the songwriting process.

I don't agree with Carrie Underwood being in the new artist and female vocalist categories. I didn't agree with Gretchen winning both those categories in the same year last year. To me, the female vocalist category should be an artist who's had more than one hit and who has been on the scene for a while. I can't quite figure out why some artists get nominated and others don't - there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. In the female vocalist category you have Martina who has an album out but none of the stuff she's released has been played much, at least not here. Also, Leanne Womack is the same situation here as far as airplay and her albums been out a while. Sara and Gretchen I understand and I've already covered Carrie. I'm not a Faith fan but I am shocked she isn't nominated for anything other than the duet with Tim. Here is somebody I hear on the radio all the time, is on her third single from Fireflies which is a fairly new record, and no nominations. In my opinion, Trisha should have been nominated for female vocalist, at the very least. If Leanne Womack and Martina are nominated with barely any radio play for their new records, then Trisha fits right in with them. I'm so sick and tired of everybody raving about Trisha's voice and what an awesome singer she is and yet she gets treated like dirt when it comes to airplay. Do I sound bitter? I guess if you try to stay true to yourself you get shunned because it doesn't fit in with what country radio wants. Martina's sold over a million for Timeless but do you hear anything played - no. I knew that would happen. Personally, I don't care for the ACM's anyway because it's a little too Hollywood and not country enough when that show airs.

Carol,

I agree with you completely. I've already said my peace over at TY.com, but I might as well add my two cents worth here too.

Carrie shouldn't have been nominated for Female Vocalist. She hasn't been around long enough to prove herself. I mean come on, the girl has only had one single out!! If she wins I really don't know what I'll do with myself. That's exactly how I felt when Gretchen won her Female Vocalist award...it came too soon. Popularity isn't everything. Trisha really did deserve to at least be nominated. One of the most respected female vocalists in the business finally comes back with an amazing album after being gone for 4 years and the academy couldn't even recognize her?!?! It's just stupid.

I'm not surprised at all that Garth wasn't nominated, and personally I feel that's how things should be. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the new CD and rushed out the first day to get it, but it just would have been strange to have a "retired" artist being nominated.

Was Garth's album even within the qualifying dates? If it was, I'm surprised Good Ride Cowboy wasn't there.

Believe me, if I Play Chicken With the Train was nominated... Cowboy should have been.

That is a good point. I hadn't even thought about when it was released and whether or not it even made it under the qualifying dates.

The nominations look a little dissapointing in my opinion. Big & Rich and the rapping cowboy getting nominations bothers me.

And damn it...what does Trisha have to do to get nominated for female vocalist? I don't think she'd desevre to win, but at least giving her a nomination would be a sign of respect. Carrie Underwood? Too early and she doesn't impress me either.

Well at least Faith didn't get nominated in this category. Nothing against her personally but I don't think artists who use autotuners should even qualify as a "vocalist".

Carrie's album was realeased the same month as Garth's Box Set.

GRC was released about the same time as Carrie's "JTTW"

I think she's probably talking about their worthiness to be nominated- heck, Brooks & Dunn are nominated and they're a duo- I think Alabama was nominated in teh past and they're a group..

if it's the worthiness she's referring to I kinda agree

but maybe it's the competition then for Keith..

personally -the nominees are very weak this year in that category, IMO
