I would like to start out this month by thanking and commending all of the great people in this community who helped to make this year's Smiles For Life campaign a success. The campaign this year helped to raise close to $2,000,000 for children's charities. Smiles For Life is a campaign which is run by a dental organization called The Crown Council. As a Crown Council dentist I make a commitment to continual improvement as a person, in my practice, and as a member of the community through idea exchange, education, and giving back. Since its inception in 1999, the Smiles For Life campaign has raised nearly $19,000,000 for children's charities. During the months of March, April, and May, my office had the opportunity to whiten a great number of community members' teeth for a discounted fee. This fee in its entirety was then donated to the Smiles For Life foundation. One half of the money goes to nationwide children's initiatives through the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation, and the other half returns directly to our local community to a charity of my office's choice. This year, Dr. Davidson, my team and I chose the Auburn YMCA Scholarship Fund. It was our privilege to be able to hand to Jim Courtney, the YMCA executive director, a check from Garth Brooks in the amount of $4,000 for children who wouldn't be able to afford a YMCA membership. If you would like to know more about the Smiles For Life Foundation, please look on the Internet at www.SmilesForLife.org.
