Renee Zellweger, Kenny Chesney Get Married

LOS ANGELES - Oscar-winning actress Renee Zellweger and country music star Kenny Chesney were married Monday in a small ceremony on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a publicist for Zellweger said.

The ceremony took place in front of close friends and family, Los Angeles-based publicist Nanci Ryder said in a statement. The bride wore a Carolina Herrera dress, she added.

It was the first marriage for both.

The couple met at the Concert of Hope tsunami relief benefit Jan. 15, where Chesney was singing and Zellweger was answering telephones, the syndicated TV show "The Insider" reported.

Chesney, 37, lives on St. John, while Zellweger, who turned 36 two weeks ago, is from Katy, Texas.

Zellweger won a best supporting actress Oscar in 2004 for "Cold Mountain." She was nominated for Oscars for her work in "Chicago" and "Bridget Jones's Diary."

Chesney currently has two albums on Billboard's top 10 country albums chart, and his single "Anything But Mine" is No. 6 on the magazine's hot country songs list.

Chesney was named Country Music Association entertainer of the year in November, and his "When The Sun Goes Down" was named album of the year. His other hits include "Me and You" and "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy."

According to Country Weekly magazine, Chesney long ago named Zellweger as his favorite actress and was inspired to write his 1999 hit "You Had Me From Hello" after seeing her in "Jerry Maguire."

Zellweger appeared at a recent Chesney concert in Jacksonsville, Fla., presenting him with a margarita and a kiss on stage, Country Weekly magazine reported.

Zellweger has dated White Stripes singer Jack White and "Me, Myself & Irene" co-star Jim Carrey.

After a whirlwind four-month courtship, the erstwhile Bridget Jones' Diary spinster was hitched to country star Kenny Chesney Monday in the Virgin Islands, her publicist confirmed to E!

The freshly minted marrieds--heretofore known as "RenKen"--tied the knot "in front of close friends and family in St. John," said Zellweger publicist Nanci Ryder, who offered few details of the surprise nuptials, other than Zellweger's gown of choice (a Carolina Herrera number).

Chesney went barefoot for the cermony, per Entertainment Tonight, but there was no immediate word on whether he went down the aisle wearing his Stetson. The couple "laughed and cried" during the 15-minute ceremony, ET reports.

Zellweger and Chesney have only been dating since Jan. 15, when they met at the Concert of Hope tsunami relief benefit. She served him his traditional margarita at an Apr. 29 show in Jacksonville, Florida, and last week the couple were spotted getting all kissy at a P.F. Chang's restaurant near Nashville. This week's People quotes Zellweger's publicist saying the twosome "are in the very early stages of getting to know each other."

We can't wait to see what happens once they get past that awkward stage.

This is the first marriage for both.

Zellweger, who turned 36 in April, is eight months over her relationship with another musician, White Stripes frontman Jack White. The Texas-born beauty's other leading men have included her Me, Myself & Irene costar Jim Carrey in 1999-2000 and George Clooney in the mid-'90s. Aside from her Bridget Jones flicks, Zellweger is best known for such films as Jerry Maguire, Chicago and Cold Mountain, the last of which earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

Chesney, 37, was previously engaged to Mandy Weals, but they split after calling off their wedding in 1998. One of Nashville's biggest acts, Chesney won Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards last November. His latest album, Be As You Are: Songs from an Old Blue Chair, debuted atop the Billboard Hot 200 in February. It was his third straight chart-topper, following 2004's When the Sun Goes Down and 2002's No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem.

The newlyweds' honeymoon will be over soon, however. Chesney is due in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Thursday for a concert, and Zellweger hits the PR circuit later this month for her new film, Cinderella Man, which is due in theaters June 3.

I couldn't believe it when I heard this news on the radio this morning. Rene hasn't seemed to be able to stay with any guy for very long, so it will be interesting to see what happens. None of the stations I listened to thought it was a wise idea to get married after only knowing each other a few months. One thing that did occur to me though, is if you want to keep something a secret and get married quietly, you CAN do it no matter how big a star you are!!

I read People on the plane. Those pictures could go down in history as the worst wedding pictures ever (and I'm happy to give up that claim to fame!)

My husband rented me the 2nd Bridget Jones movie tonight. (Never saw the first.) It was like a train wreck. Maybe not having seen the first one I was missing some important elements. Like a plot.

At any rate... I did some digging around on the net, and everything said she gained 30 lbs. for the movie. As teeny as she is, I'd have put it more around 50. or more. How the woman doesn't have stretch marks from hell, I don't know.

While digging, I found a couple of interesting things. You can find everything on the net, can't you? Interesting thing #1 was shirtless pictures of Kenny with a rug of chest hair. Not quite the smooth tan pecs he has now. Interesting thing #2 was an old interview with Renee about dating:

"Am I? That's crazy to me. I've only dated one [Jim Carrey] and not even for a year. And I was in England for half that time."

Supposedly, you were engaged to him...

I saw the People magazine. Kenny and Renee look extremely happy in those photos. There is something about them that just makes me smile so much. No other wedding pictures have done that for me in a long while. Since my daughter's actually. And I was there at that one. Not Kenny's.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to read in the article that Renee chased Kenny at the benefit first! She had notes passed to him by a friend. She was dying to meet him. Cute! :)

Renee Zellweger, who has filed for an annulment from husband Kenny Chesney after just four months of marriage, says the couple "hope to experience this transition as privately as possible."

In court papers filed Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the Oscar-winning actress listed "fraud" as the reason for the breakup with the country music star.

The term was "simply legal language and not a refection of Kenny's character," Zellweger said in a statement Friday.

"I would personally be very grateful for your support in refraining from drawing derogatory, hurtful, sensationalized or untrue conclusions," she said. "We hope to experience this transition as privately as possible."

In a statement released to Access Hollywood, Kenny expressed the same desire for privacy as Renee.

"This is an incredibly sad time...I just hope everyone can respect the privacy that I know Renee has already asked for," he said.

I agree, it's their personal lives... and I find it to be "not so cool" to be speculating about Kenny in this way as well. Very tabloidy.

Maybe they broke up over who left the cap off the toothpaste or one squeezes it from the bottom and the other from the middle. People have broken up over less... especially when you have only known the other person for so short a time.

It's too bad they couldn't make it work... and that's the same way I'd feel about the rest of those getting divorced in the world. When 50% of all marriages fail it's nothing to say "I told you so" or to even be surprised about with this one.

Less than a week after Renee Zellweger filed for an annulment from Kenny Chesney, the country music star assured fans, "I'll be OK."

"I'm all right. I'm good. There have been better times, but I'll be OK," Chesney told Country Weekly magazine for its Oct. 24 issue, on newsstands Oct. 10. The interview was conducted Monday at the singer's home outside Nashville, Tenn.


In court papers filed Sept. 14, Zellweger listed "fraud" as the reason for the breakup after four months of marriage.

The "Bridget Jones" actress and Chesney married in a surprise Caribbean island ceremony in May after first meeting in January.

"I hit everything so hard this year," Chesney said. "I had the biggest tour I've ever done, I had a record to finish that was real important to me, and, of course, I had something new in my personal life and I was trying to do that too. It really ended up being too much."

Chesney, 37, was named Country Music Association entertainer of the year in November, while his "When the Sun Goes Down" was named album of the year.

"I'm tired right now, but by next year, I'll be excited to get back to it. And it'll be about the music again, not about the sideshow."

And Access Hollywood has learned some new information regarding the sudden split.

I would hate to grow up knowing that I was the "objective" of my parents' marriage.

I know Kenny wants kids, I've heard him talk about it on more than one occasion. Did he want kids with Renee, did he want kids right that minute, did he want to father a child with someone he'd known less than a year? Can't say I'd blame him if the tabloids and unnamed friends turn out to be true.

Maybe Renee should go to a clinic and find a sperm donor.
