As excited as I am about "Georgia Rain" being Trisha's new single, I am even more excited to say that a little birdie told me that there will be a "surprise" guest performance on the CMT Music Awards Monday night (the 11th) at 8/7c. Hope you're all watching. :-)

Trisha was announced as a special guest, but no other special guests were with her.

For those of you that missed it... you know CMT. It's about to repeated (the entire awards show), at 11:30 pm EST. I think I may just tape her performance again... :D

It was such a thrill to see the audience, and her peers, give her that huge response and standing ovation. Reba looked very teary-eyed, and Trisha was pretty close--not to mention me! Yikes. But wow, a couple of the lines in the last verse or so of Georgia Rain are even more emotional if you think of Trisha and how she's back in the spotlight after being out of it for a while! I think the audience was reacting to that, as well as her performance. :)

I did not go to the bathroom with Kenny - I nearly collided with him outside the bathrooms.... let the record reflect he was coming OUT of the Men's while I was going INTO the Women's. I was distracted by the Toby entourage.

I'm logging Trisha's press conference now. I'll post some details probably in her forum here on PG a little later.

I will say though... it took three people to carry her dress into the room. "My dress has a posse... I do not!"

More to come. She talked about Garth, the record, the video, the tour...

Here's what I can give you tonight. I have to get home and get some bed so I can get up in the morning and make sure we get that single on the air! I made sure she knew we were playing the single in the morning so her dad could tune in!

More to come on the tour... Garth... and whatever else I'm too tired to type.

If it's "in quotes" it came directly out of Trisha's mouth. And again... I ask that what gets posted on the Planet... stays on the Planet.

Backstage at the CMT Music Awards:

"It's weird, because I've been really nervous in the weeks coming up to this. Really nervous. But the rehearsal yesterday went great, and I was like, oh, I know how to do this, I know how to sing."

"I really intended to take a year off.... I had toured nonstop for 12 years and it was time to take a little break. A year went by really fast, even when you're doing nothing."

"I spent a lot of time in Georgia and Oklahoma and got a chance to really see the seasons change, and enjoy dance recitals and soccer games and you know, those kinds of things that I hadn't gotten a chance to do."

Jimmy Carter asked her if there was anything she needed to confess or tell us....
"No, is there anything you need to confess or tell us? 'Cuz I do listen to Tulsa Radio, and I have heard you. We'll talk later."

She talked about Georgia Rain... you'll have to tune into XM in the morning to hear what she said about it.

"I named the album Jasper County which is the county that I was born in, and I asked the writers of this song if they'd let me put Jasper County in the lyrics.

My hometown doesn't know it yet, we shot the album cover in my hometown and we're going to shoot the video there. They're going to get more than they bargained for, those 2500 people - and I know every one of them!"

Someone pressed her again about Garth and I can't even begin to describe to you how vague she was. She didn't confirm anything, but she was very careful not to deny anything either.
"Life is good. We're very happy. I'm very happy, I'll speak for me. Life is good. It's all good."

My favorite line:

I was nervous like I was nominated for something, and no one even knew that I was going to be there!

Awwww... she is such a sweetie, and so genuine. You could see that she was nervous on Saturday, and it makes a little more sense now. :) (Not that her first "solo" show probably wasn't making her jittery!)

"I know how to sing." LOL!!! I think you can say that.

Do you know who her back-up singers were tonight, J? I couldn't get a good enough look at them.

THANK YOU for being so wonderful! :)

Please, please, please wait until I get to work to play the single. :D :D :D

So the whole reason I came on here was this:

part of a press release from CMT:

In the biggest surprise of the evening, Trisha Yearwood thrilled fans that have been eagerly awaiting new music from the superstar. She surprised them with a heart wrenching performance of her latest single, "Georgia Rain." Yearwood's unannounced debut of her new power ballad brought the audience to its feet as fans welcomed the star to the CMT stage with overwhelming excitement. Her appearance on the 2005 CMT MUSIC AWARDS marks Yearwood's first live television performance in nearly three years. Yearwood's single hits radio later this month and her latest album, "Jasper County," releases Sept. 13.

Trisha was wonderful! She made me weep with joy. The song was beautifully performed. I was so taken in by the reception she received. You can see the tremendous respect her peers have for her as well as the music industry and fans. She brought dignity and class to an otherwise crass representation of country music last night.

Keith Urban also gave an excellent performance.

Joyce - Thanks for all the great Trisha quotes and info. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

I loved her Jimmy Carter smack down! LOL Too funny!

I was at the show it was just awesome. Everyone got to there feet and were clapping for her, she really got one of the biggest appaluses of the night, Of course I helped my section by screaming and standing as soon as I saw her walking out to the stage. She was just awsome, that dress was crazy 4 people had to carry her out and back. I loved at the end of the song when she sings its good to be back after being gone.. (not the correct words or anything) everyone cheered.

It was so great to see her on TV again, I now have to watch the broadcast,

I called two of station requesting the song, they don't have it yet but I'm going to keep calling.

I've played back the tape several times now and John and I are pretty convinced the guy on the far left, no hat, white untucked shirt is Garth. Hard to tell as the man is in near total darkness, but the build and the way he moved was very Garth-like. I'd love to hear from someone who was there.

Hey y'all.

First off, thanks to those of you who tuned in this morning. I felt like I had a fan club of my own listening! That was fun.

I have to send a BIG thank you to my friends at MCA. We had promoted yesterday that we'd debut the single this morning, I'd let Trisha know so she could let her dad know, I had the soundbites ready to go... and then the single didn't get digitally delivered this morning!

I'm guessing there was a problem, because it did go out this afternoon, but by that point in time the hard copies had arrived via UPS. So basically - everyone should have it by now.

My buddies at MCA were good enough to burn me a copy and run it down to the Hall of Fame so we could get it on the air, and I do believe, unless Trisha herself took one somewhere (and believe me, I tried to get her on the air with us this morning) we were probably the first place in the nation to play it. Definately one of the first.

Now... the physical single itself... we should probably talk about. I'm wondering though, should we make a thread for discussion of the single showing up on radio? (we can do whatever the heck we want to here at PG!) And leave this thread for the awards show so that people wandering in can keep it all straight?

And BTW, if Garth was in the building last night, it was the best kept secret in Nashville. I saw her entourage, and he was not part of it, nor was there any buzz that he was there escorting her, or singing with her. He was in town yesterday though apparently.

Jen was in the audience, she can probably fill us in on the backup singers. I did hear that there were three bands who did actually perform live last night, but I don't know who's bands they were.

Oh - sorry, I didn't answer the XM question.

Because the logs were already done for today and tomorrow by the time we got the single today, the only time you'll hear it is when there's a live jock to play it. (20 minutes 'till the next live DJ on Highway 16...) Beginning Thursday it will go into regular rotation and be scheduled to play more frequently.

I'll be curious to hear when Sirius adds it, I'm not sure if they have live DJ's on their country channels, so I imagine it will be a couple of days before it shows up there, but I could be wrong.

She. And no... unlike your terrestrial country radio stations, we actually play requests, so I'm sure she'll put it in the show. Actually, Jon instructed her to. Even IF we only played it once a day (and you're not paying attention because I just told you the live DJ's would be putting it into their shows) that's once a day more than most other radio outlets are playing it this early.

The guy singing backup onstage with Trisha last night was NOT Garth. It was a guy named Wes Hightower. (In the white shirt.) Trust me, if Garth was there (especially on that stage behind her) America would have known about it. The cameras would have been all over him. Which is probably why he WASN'T singing with her on the show. He wanted her to be the one to shine last night what with her new single coming out. That would be my GUESS because I don't know personally. But anyway, no it wasn't Garth.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Ok, just to amuse myself, I grabbed 5 CD's off the shelf to see how close I came.

Terri Clark - Pain to Kill
LeAnn Womack - There's More Where That Came From
Mark Wills - And the Crowd Goes Wild
Julie Roberts - Julie Roberts
Carolyn Dawn Johnson - Dress Rehearsal

He's on all of them. And so it wasn't stacked with women singers, I checked out Tracy Byrd - The Truth About Men. He was on that one too!

If the songwriter's posts get pulled off TY.com because she posts some crazy rumor like the song was about rain or something, tell her to come on over to the Planet!

I told my friend she should post here to say hello to everyone....but so far she hasn't. I know she has just signed a record deal herself and is staying pretty busy with recording....but I did see that she posted on TY.com. She seemed very excited about all the positive feedback and said to say thank you to everyone for the compliments. She LOVES Trisha and is beside herself with excitement. Her name is Karyn Rochelle, by the way. She posted her name on TY.com so I'm sure she doesn't mind my telling her name. If so, oops! ha ha.

I will ask her, though, about the "garthy" moment in the song. But first, what are you talking about exactly?
