Hi. I was listening to the radio last nite. And the station was re-airing evidently, a show from the Grand Ole Opry. There were 3 guests...one being Garth. He sang, "The Dance"..and at the very end...where the song goes.."The.....Dance"....in between "the" and "dance"...Garth said, "I truly love you".
The DJ also said it was one of Garth's last appearances.
Has anyone heard this broadcast? Who was Garth speaking to?
The audience?
Any info would be most appreciated. :)
Thanks
Angie

Well from what I remember,

Garth's last Opry appearance was at the 75th Anniversary Show in 2001. The actual CBS Taping of the event was his very last ... that was aired on CBS in November 2001.

It sounds very much like the late show on Saturday of the Opry 75th weekend which took place a few weeks prior to the CBS taping. At the end of The Dance, Garth stopped playing the guitar and sang a cappella. It was very moving to be there on this night.

Speaking of the Opry. Doesn't Garth have to perform on the show four times a year to maintain his membership? I have always been curious about this. Anyone know the rules?

There is a rule about number of annual performances, but Garth must have worked out some type of deal with them. He has always said he thought the best way he could promote the Opry is to talk about it and explain what it means to him.

I think there is a grandfather clause as well... that it only applies to the new members that join from the date they announced that... least I would assume so.

WOW! Thanks Jen, that really does bring back memories! What an awesome moment! I remember saying after the show that we really did witness something special that night!

Jim :)

And when he said "I truly love you," he was saying it to those in the audience that were singing right back at him!

If that don't tug at your heart, then you might as well be a living donor.

Wow. Now I have to spend the next 7 months getting my heart and head back on the same page. One says PLEASE come back, the other is saying do what you gotta do.

Thanks Jen and Rachael.

This is SOOO COOL! Thanks Jen for sharing the File, and Thanks Rachael for helping her! You BOTH ROCK! This version of the song is truly touching, and so incredibly heart wrenching! What an amazing night that must have been! You can just Hear it in his voice!
And thanks Jim for sharing your pics--Very Cool!
You know, I thought when Garth retired, that we'd at least see him at the Opry on occasions, but so far-nope. I hope that one day he will again, after all-it is the Opry!

Thank you so much Jen & Rachel! That was absolutely wonderful! Very emotional, personal and definitely tugs at your heart. How can you not tear up listening to Garth sing like that and of course The Dance has always been an emotional song for me. I wish I could have been there to see it, but I'm really happy I got to hear his performance.

Thanks Jim for sharing. The pictures were great!
