wow. I have to say that's a surprising one. It's been quite a while since the Opry has inducted a new member, I'm glad to see them doing that again.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Trace Adkins Invited to Become Member of Grand Ole Opry
NASHVILLE - (June 14, 2003) Capitol Records recording artist Trace
Adkins received the surprise of a lifetime tonight on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry when he was invited to become a member of the American institution. His formal induction will take place on Aug. 23.
After Adkins finished performing his current single "Then They Do," Opry member Little Jimmy Dickens walked on stage carrying a small step ladder. The 4'11" country music legend sat the ladder near Adkins' feet and climbed the ladder until he was almost eye-to-eye with the 6'6"Adkins. "I hope you'll accept my humble apology for interrupting," on behalf of Opry management, Jimmy then said to Adkins, "I have a very serious question for you. Just how bad would you like to become a member of our Grand Ole Opry family?" A visibly emotional Adkins placed his head on Little Jimmy's shoulder and said "I want it bad." Later after composing himself, Adkins addressed the audience with, "I just want you all to know this is one of the happiest nights of my life, and I feel really honored to be here."
"Trace Adkins possesses what we look for in an Opry member," said Pete Fisher, Opry vice-president and general manager. "He has demonstrated a heartfelt passion for the Opry through his numerous appearances as a guest artist on the show, and he has developed a distinguished career - including industry accolades, numerous hit songs, and over two million albums sold. We look forward to welcoming Trace's talent and commitment to the Opry family on August 23rd."
Adkins' first appearance on the famed Grand Ole Opry in November 1996 was definitely a memorable one. Not only was it his Opry debut, but he also proposed to his now-wife Rhonda onstage. Since that time, Adkins has returned to the Opry stage often as a multi-platinum selling artist with several hit singles. Trace Adkins Greatest Hits Collection, Volume 1 will be released July 8 including chart-toppers "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing," "I Left Something Turned On At Home," "I'm Tryin'" and "Chrome." Adkins' current single is "Then They Do," and its popularity has spurred a book of the same name that includes stories from parents across the country who were inspired by the song. The opening chapter was written by Adkins. The book is published by Rutledge Hill Press,
and it too is set for a July 8 release.

Looking back with Trace...
I love what Trace had to say about one of his songs of an older album... From the Album titled "More..."
"Every Other Friday At Five" (Steven Dale Jones):
This song just killed me. It made me cry, and I immediately picked up the phone and called the publishing company myself and said, "This is Trace Adkins. I want you to put this Steven Dale Jones song 'Every Other Friday At Five' on hold for me and I mean, strong hold. Don't you even let anybody listen to it." I still love it as much today as I did then. I've been that man in that song, too. I have two children from my first marriage and love them to death. You hear about deadbeat dads and dads that don't take care of their kids, but this song is an anthem for those men that aren't like that. I think divorced fathers get a bad rap, because so many of them love their children and want so desperately to be a part of their lives. This song is about a father who loves his children more than his own life, and unfortunately he only gets to see them every other Friday at five and he lives for every other Friday at five. This song just tore me up. I think this song is really important. - Trace Adkins

Being only 4'11" myself, that's just too funny for words! I'd love to have seen that!
