Did anyone else get a big package from MBNA Teammates today?

Not I. What was it?
Paula
It had a nice letter stating they wre sending us a gift, but all it really was is a catalog of opportunities to donate to help needy children around the world. It does have a small picture of Garth on the cover though. It was a huge padded envelope with a normal sized catalog almost which made me think that maybe they forgot to put something inside.

I got my package today...no gift. I think the letter left out a word and instead of saying they were sending a gift, they meant a gift catalog. There were a couple of opportunities in the catalog to team up with TFK in donating money towards a play zone and towards needed items.

I got the same thing thought it was kind of strange to send a magazine in a padded envelope.

I got one too. I think they were sent to those of us who carry the Garth credit card. And the 'gift' was the magazine.

I received the large envelope from MBNA credit card / Bank. It contained a catalog from the World Vision charity. It is a catalog of gifts that you can give to help needy people and children all over the world. There is a small sticker on the front page with a picture of Garth saying "Be a Teammate with Garth, see page 31". On that page it describes a project where the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation, the Troy Aikman Foundation and World Vision have joined together. The project is to build a "Kid Zone" in childrens's hospitals throughout North America. The "Kid Zones" will be an area (free from Doctors) where ill children can come together to play, join with their families and have some fun while forgetting about the child's illness. Each "Kid Zone" will cost $500,000, but you can donate $50 for a share in a "Kid Zone". There is also another Teammates Foundation and World Vision collaboration, where for a donation of $25, they will donate $1,500 worth of clothes, toys and other needed items to poor children in the U. S. and Abroad. I think that not only the collaboration is a wonderful idea, but the whole World Vision donations catalog is terrific. I wish that I had enough money to donate to the Teammates projects and several of the other World vision projects.

Wow, neat info, thanks for sharing it with us. I love Troy Aikman too, I wish I'd gotten the chance to meet him when he used to come through Nashville.
I wonder if there's a way for us to designate the TFK birthday donation for something like Kid's Zone? As a mom who's child had to spend 5 days in the hospital, I think it sounds like a fabulous project. Would ya'll be interested in that?

What a great idea, Joyce. You would have to ask Monica if she could ask the Teammates Foundation to do it. I think that it would be great if all the PG'ers donations went to one specific Teammates project. If anyone would like the info on how to dontate to this project (along with your dontation to the Teammates Foundation) directly through the World Vision organization, please send me a private e-mail.

Well, it looks like there is lots of good opportunities to give gifts of love through World Vision as has been suggested. We could sponsor a foreign child even. I think the first step would be to start exploring the areas of need and just pick one, either individually or as a group, wherever our heart leads. And there's a link to order the 2003 gift catalog in any number you need. Let's all do that much for starters, ok? I get excited just thinking about doing something for good in Garth's name, to be proud of all together. It doesn't have to be something that changes the whole world. But it might for the one whose life we touch. :)

I'm in. There's not much I can do on my own.... I'm a single mom. I think it would be a fantastic idea to do it TOGETHER! How do we go about doing that?

Name: Joaquin
Born: Aug 14, 2001
Grade: 0
Favorite Subject: Not Available
Health: Good
Favorite Play: Ball
Gender: Boy
Chores: Too Young
Country: Guatemala
That's the little boy I just clicked to sponsor for $26 a month when I made my order for seven gift catalogs. I sent his pic to Moni from the page to post. Hopefully it will work.
If anybody else wants to get more children to sponsor, World Vision has a candidate come up on the screen when you order the free gift catalog. We can either do this each individually or share a few children's names and keep tabs on their progress here. :)

It took awhile to complete my transaction because of maintenence on the web site. But heres the info to Joaquin:
Congratulations! You have sponsored Joaquin from Guatemala.
Joaquin lives with his parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters. His parents struggle to provide for the family. His father is a subsistence farmer and his mother takes care of the household. Despite their efforts, it is difficult to meet the family's needs.
Joaquin is growing up in a poor community in the Latin American country of Guatemala. Homes may be made of clay bricks with tin sheets or of bamboo cane with straw roofs, depending on what is available. Families survive on corn, beans, eggs and milk or whatever homegrown food is available. The climate in this region is moderate and the terrain is rocky and dusty.
Joaquin is not in school at this time. He likes to play ball. He helps at home by learning to do small tasks. He is in good health.
Your sponsorship commitment will help provide Joaquin and his community with greater access to nutritious food, improved health care and hygiene. Your support will also provide educational opportunities for children. Parents will be given training to help them enhance their family's standard of living. Finally, through Christian witness, these precious children and their families will have the joy of knowing God's grace and love.

There he is! There's Joaquin! Hi buddy! :)
Thanks for putting that up Moni. :)
Anybody wanna help me sponsor him? Or maybe pick a child of your own? Maybe someone older in school? Or for now we can all just "adopt" Joaquin? Maybe write letters or cards to him and his family? Order him a few Christmas items from the World Vision site? Let me know how to get involved together in any way you prefer. The thing is here, to "just do it" as Nike would say.

OK, I'm getting very frustrated here. I can't even order a gift catalog. It took me forever to get registered only to find out that now I have about 7 screennames. I would love to get involved... I'm just stuck. :-?

It's ok Krystal. Maybe later as I think World Vision's site is getting an upgrade right now. I'll let you know when I get Joaquin's info pack and gift catalogs in the mail. Maybe we can get him and his family something for Christmas that they need. I know Compassion, International had a program like that every year.

If you haven't gotten involved helping World Vision out, now is the time! The need is extremely great since the earthquake in Iran this week. :(
