View Full Version : New Garth Duet available

Hi All,

I was just browsing around the net and to my surprise I found new Garth. Remember back in April Joyce bought to our attention a little story about Garth & Trisha and him stopping in and recording a duet with a new artist called Royal Wade Kimes, I have looked around and havent found an update but the album has now been released and I found a snippet of the song that Garth has sung on with him. Its called Nightbirds and personally I love it. I have been trying to find the lyrics but no luck yet but if I didnt know I would say Garth had a hand in writing the song.

Joyce do you happen to have any more information I missed that you might know or might have posted??

Here is a snippet

Enjoy Rachael :)

You know Rachael, I've been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to peruse the boards like I normally do. When I logged on today I saw your "racmac" on the main page and immediately got excited. And thank you so much, it wasn't for nothing! I absolutely love that snippet you have so graciously provided for us. Garth's voice sounds very good meshed with Royal's!!

Thanks again - it made my morning!

Sue <---who even though has not been around all that much, has not stopped wearing her "Thank you Rachael" banner on her forehead.

I found a little info about Mr. Kimes and his connection to Garth.

About Royal Wade Kimes

As a young songwriter in Nashville, Kimes signed a songwriting deal with Bob Doyle, who had just formed his own publishing company. "He told me he'd like for me to come over and write with this guy he'd just signed. Well, the guy was Garth Brooks." Kimes concedes that Brooks initially had some reservations about writing with him. "When Garth and I hooked up, I played him a little bit of this song I'd started called "We Bury The Hatchet". Before I finished, he excused himself and went out to where Bob Doyle was and said, 'Bob, this guy's crazy as hell'. Bob told him I was just 'different' and that he should give me a chance. So Garth came back in and sat down and we finished the song."

Although this co-writing session took place just as Brooks was finishing his first album, it wasn't until it was time for his third album, "Ropin' The Wind", that he found a place for the quirky song. It was also around this time that Kimes made a major romantic move. He borrowed a car from the dealership and drove back to Arkansas to track down his former high-school sweetheart.

Although several labels showed an interest in Kimes, it was a showcase he did two years ago that ultimately led him to Asylum Records. Joe Mansfield, who had been instrumental in making Garth Brooks a superstar, was at the showcase and loved Kimes' music. So when Mansfield moved to his present post as co-president/CEO of Asylum, Kimes was the first artist he signed.

Kimes says he wants his music to make people's life experience more meaningful and easier to understand. "I like to write songs about something serious, but throw in a little humor to make it easier to look at. Now I've also got some songs that are so emotional I'm almost afraid to let anybody hear them."

This emotional intensity carries over to his live performance. "When I sing, I'm actually there where the action is taking place," he says. "It's like a mini-film in my mind. I can see it. I can touch it. Sometimes I can actually taste it." So can his listeners. And coming from anyone other than Kimes, it just wouldn't sound true.

Hey Ann,

Very cool, I really like the song, sounds very romantic, I really want to hear it all and find out the lyrics and who wrote it as in Joyce's post about it in her column back in April she said Garth called Royal and told him he was landing in Nashville and could he come over, he had Trisha with him and he also had the song...

Thanks for the added information, I know there is also more on him at countrystars.com Its where I found the clip of the song and he does have his own website.

Night Birds - Royal Wade Kimes

Sung by Royal

Might get up in the morning, saddle my horse and leave
You never know my darling bout a cowboy like me
I've always been a drifter, seen a lot of towns
But one night with you love might turn that all around

Hear the night birds they're singin love is in the air
And that warm breeze is blowin softly through your hair
Oh that desert moon is our candle light
And we're night birds in the dark
We found each other from the echoes of the heart

Sung by Garth

One day I'll be an old man and look back upon this time.
And they'll wonder why I'm smiling with these memories of mine
So hold me to your breast girl and let me feel the heat
This moment is frozen and forever it will keep

Sung by Royal & Garth

Hear the night birds they're singin love is in the air
And that warm breeze is blowin softly through your hair
Oh that desert moon is our candle light
And we're night birds in the dark
We found each other from the echoes of the heart
We found each other from the echoes of the heart

Song fades out with harmonies, Garth sounds awesome!!!

Liner notes from Royal to Garth:

When we were discussing doing a song on the album together, Garth said, it's cowboy ain't it? I said yes I guess it's cowboy. Garth said, "Wade Kimes if you are singing it, it's cowboy, you bet I want to sing on your project." There is no way I could really express how much I appreciate you Garth. Thanks for your belief in me. You truly felt and captured the mood of the song, it became a moment and it shows. The Tacos are on the way!!

Points of Interest...

Kent Blazy has a song on this cd & Jimmy Mattingly plays the fiddle on the cd.

From what I have listened to its a good cd, real country.

10-22-2002, 11:59 AM
The Tacos are on the way!!

Royal(rhymes with Troyal,, hehehe) sure knows our boy well, doesn't he? :D

Unfortunately I probably won't be able to get his cd for that one song, although the lyrics are great and it would be fantastic to hear Garth sing his part.
So hold me to your breast girl and let me feel the heat

Ok, Ok, So I just wanna hear Garth sing this line. So sue me! lol

10-22-2002, 12:04 PM
LOL Ellie! Let me tell you, after I read that line, If at that moment I were to have held Garth to my breast, the heat would have melted a permanent tattoo of him there, it was that hot!

Not to take anything away from Royal...I did enjoy the CD..but man,
when Garth sings...it just takes your breath away...that voice, I was thinking it is no wonder that he is the #1 Country male singer of all time. ...He truly has an incredible voice and I SURE DO MISS HIM....

10-25-2002, 12:02 AM
Ann! My heart echoes yours girl!!! :)

There are things that matter, and things that matter more!!!

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away!

I'll bet it was Garth that said "hey, that's the verse I want to solo in". It comes across with more gripping power than Superglue. Hubba-Hubba

10-25-2002, 12:03 PM
Gee, thanks a million for that piece!!!! I'm so far here in Finland that I couldn't keep up with all the little bits of news about Garth without you guys!

10-30-2002, 07:54 PM
Rachael ~

Thanks so much for that little teaser, it was GREAT to hear Garth's voice on something new, very cool! :) Now I've gotta come up with the pennies to go out and get this CD, too! Ahhh... so much great music out there, so little money to spend on all of it! ;) I still haven't managed to budget in Andy Griggs' new one, and yesterday I saw that they already have the Christmas CD's back in the store, and there are a couple of those I wanted last year but never got. And the list just keeps-a-growin'! That's okay, though. Thanks again! :)

Tiina ~

Hello there! :) Welcome to Planet Garth!!!

Wow, it's really cool to see someone from Finland here, I think you might just be the first! The reason I find that so cool is because my husband is full-blooded Finn, so I get kinda excited whenever I run into someone who is Finnish. He is first-generation American, his parents were both born in Canada, but his grandparents all came from Finland. He's been able to travel back to their homeland a couple of times, but that was when he was 'rich and single' and looking for ways to spend his money on travel, excitement and adventures! ;) I would love for our whole family to be able to go to Finland someday! It's funny, when people see our last name, which is Wiitala, they always ask if it's Hawaiian, because of the double *I*, but when someone asks if it's Finnish, I know I've got someone who knows what they're talkin' about, but they are very rare, indeed! :) When I saw your name, I had to smile, I had a feeling, and then I saw what you said about being from Finland. Anyway... hope you don't mind me talkin' your ear off, like I said, I was just excited to see someone here at the Planet who is from that part of THE Planet! ;) Hope you enjoy being here!!! :)
