hi yall, i feel like a total idiot asking this question, but itd be nice if i could get a little help.
i love singing, but ive never done it in front of anyone except my sister and VERY FEW close friends, mainly because im not too confident in my voice. every now and then while im singing, its like my voice breaks. my sister and those few close friends tell me its because my voice is changing, but i didnt think a girl's voice would do that. im 13...does that have anything to do with it? if anybody has any hints that would help me control this voice breaking thing, i would greatly appreciate it!! thanks and God bless!!

Melissa-
I hope I can help ya. :)
Female voices do change--and if you are a singer it is much more noticeable. When I was about your age, I went through the same thing...and my voice is still settling. I went from a Soprano I (highest possible)...to a Soprano II...and I might be sliding down to an Alto now.
Now, it's possible for the crack in your voice to be caused by this, but there are also factors that could contribute. You may have just found what us singers call the "crack" in your voice--the point where the notes are out of your natural range. If this is the case, then your voice will crack on about the same note.
But, if that doesn't happen, it probably is your voice change. There isn't much you can do, other than wait for your voice to settle into it's new range. While you're working through this, make sure you're singing songs that don't seem to cause you to crack as much. Also make sure you're warming up enough and conditioning your voice so you'll be super-ready when your voice is ready for you!
Hope this helps...if you have any other questions--feel free to email me at kristaleben@hotmail.com. I'm a professional singer myself...I've recorded with an independent record label in Nashville and I also performed at Carnegie Hall in nyc this past February, so I've got some experience. ;)

thanks for all of that info, but my voice cracks THE most when i go from a high note to a low note...i have no clue what you call that, but anyway, thats when it happens the most. i dont remember a time when my voice cracked going from a low note to a high note.
also, you said that you're a professional singer. how did you start your career? i doubt im good enough, but i would really love to become a professional singer too. thanks again for the info!

I'm thinking it probably is your voice change...just keep the songs you sing in a closer range...and just wait for your voice to settle in.
Well, I've been performing in singing groups since I was 6. I was in choir in middle school and high school. I made some connections in Nashville and ended up going in to record a demo. And also made connections in high school which, paired with my vocal ability, allowed me to sing at Carnegie Hall. I'm not an amazing singer or anything, but I can hold my own.
The music business is really about who you know. When you're old enough, get out there and start singing in bars and stuff. Sing at all contests you can...and just try to meet people in your area that are in music. Friendships you make today can be business partnerships tomorrow. The road to being a singer is a long hard one and requires a whole lotta work. :)
