View Full Version : Planet Garth Forum Guidelines

02-28-2002, 09:14 PM
As we strive to continue to make Planet Garth the best fan site on the Internet, it is also necessary to update and re-iterate the guidelines we impose when posting in our Forums.

We expect all Planet Garth members to post intelligently and respectfully when interacting in the Forums. This is a requirement for the overall success of maintaining an enjoyable environment for all who visit this site.

Each Forum has a specific theme. Post your topics accordingly.
(Ex: Garth related threads go in the Main Forum; Alan Jackson threads go in the Other Artists Forum and so on. If you have a question about where your thread should go, contact a Moderator in that forum or the Administrator.)

Basic Guidelines:
The first guideline is to use common sense and respect (which the vast majority of our membership does already).

The following categories of online conduct are unacceptable at Planet Garth and constitute a violation of our Community Standards, which may result in warning, suspension, or loss of membership. It's important to note that these guidelines are applicable everywhere on Planet Garth including within our Private Message and Tradin Post features:

Harassment: Harassment occurs when a member insults, attacks, and denigrates another member at any time. Even though we realize that discussions can get intense, taking an argument about a topic to a personal level is not allowed, and can result in a suspension of your membership. Repeated critical, condescending and/or sarcastic posts toward forum members can also constitute harassment.

Disruption: Posts that intentionally disrupt the topic of conversation or steer the topic away from the focus of the forum and related news are prohibited. Disruption can include (but is not limited to) harassment, multiple posting of the same post (spam) and posting completely off-topic messages. There are people who can disrupt the community by purposely drawing attention to themselves, whether by posting controversial messages, childish or non-intelligent messages, or “pushing other people’s buttons” just to get a response. These people exist in every online community, every chat room, and on every bulletin board on the Internet. They push the envelope of what they can get away with. We have a zero tolerance policy against these types of disruptive individuals.

Vulgarity and Sexual Explicitness: As a community with a large audience of members and readers, we ask that our members post without using vulgarity. In addition, the "masking" of vulgarity by inserting * or another keystroke in place of one or more letters in a vulgar term is unacceptable as is vulgarity in usernames and profiles. We realize that there's a "gray area" of judgment with vulgarity but we ask that you respect others by avoiding it altogether. The Forum staff will determine what constitutes vulgarity or other offensive remarks and take appropriate action.

Solicitation: Using Planet Garth’s forums or chat to advertise your site, items for sale, commercial services or website is strictly prohibited. Unless previous permission has been granted from the Planet Garth management, items for sale can only be advertised in the PG Tradin Post.

Spamming: Spamming is the multiple posting of an identical or similar post in one or more of our Forums.

Moderating Member's Role in enforcing the guidelines:
If a Moderator deems necessary, posts will be edited for content or removed entirely. Should this occur, you could be notified via the Private Message System. If you do not use the PM feature, you will not be notified of any actions. Choose your option settings carefully.

Editing/removing posts are kept to a minimum. If repeated action is taken in editing a member's post, the Moderator will issue a warning. If the behavior continues, the Moderator will refer the case to a Forum Administrator, and the member will have his or her posting privileges suspended for a period of 3-7 days (determined by the nature of the offense).

The second offense of a member who refuses to adhere to the Forum Guidelines will result in a 3 month suspension.

The third offense will result in permanent loss of membership. However, again depending on the nature and severity of the offense, a permanent suspension can take place at any time.

Keep in mind that some actions will result in immediate loss of membership. Such as...

Purposely creating or posting in a thread to discuss disciplinary actions taken against yourself or a fellow member.

Purposely taunting or harassing a Moderator or Forum Administrator.

Please bear in mind that these are only guidelines; there is always a "gray area" and we understand that. Use your best judgment. This is not a comprehensive list, and we will continue to update our guidelines as needed. If you have any questions about our Community Standards as they apply to specific cases, or you would like to see a particular issue addressed, you can always ask a Moderator. Note that if you would like to express a concern about the judgment and enforcement of Community Standards by any particular Moderator, please contact an Administrator.

Thank you for reading our Community Standards. Now, we invite you to join our community of thousands at PlanetGarth.com!
