“We shall be free,
We shall be free.
Stand straight, walk proud,
‘cause we shall be free.

And when money talks for
the very last time,
and nobody walks a step behind;
when there’s only one race,
and that’s mankind,
then we shall be free.

We shall be free,
We shall be free.
Have a little faith, hold out,
“Cause we shall be free.”
Words and music by Stephanie Davis
and Garth Brooks

Hi!

The following poem is dedicated to the estimated 40 million slave children world wide. The visualization for this poem is based upon the slave children of Africa who toil the cocoa fields picking beans. The beans are sold world-wide to various chocolate manufacturers. The poem expresses, of course, what the children visualize, blinding them the harshness of their true existence. Eventually this poem will be written into a song. The vocalists will be a chorus of children world-wide...perhaps maybe from UNICEF. This will be just a part of “Dance!Sing!Fun!” a 2002 World-Wide Children’s Charities Event. Thank you, Garth Brooks, and all you people at Planet Garth and the Garthbox for making the children’s world a better place.
Carol, Wizard2C

WHAT THEY SEE

Should our eyes see the sunshine,
The fields all are green,
What appears are the flowers
dancing the wind.

Our mothers and fathers
speak with us now,
Telling their stories for us
children to hear.

Tomorrow is coming,
we will wait for the day.
The white bird called “freedom”
will fly us away.

To join once again our own families,
We’ll dance and we’ll sing again,
Like our fun memories.

Should our eyes see the moonlight,
The fields are now still,
What appears are the stars
twinklin’ on high.

Our mothers and fathers,
the angels above,
Will join in our prayers
as our heads are now bowed.

We’ll dream of tomorrow,
We’ll wait for that day.
The white bird called “freedom”
will fly us away.

We’ll join once again our own families,
We’ll dance and we’ll sing again,
In Love ever bound.

Carol,

I remember seeing reports on these poor enslaved children on a news magazine show on TV. Cannot remember if it was 20/20, Dateline, etc. but it was one of those. It is a travesty. I do try and help all that I can and I do pray for them and all abused children.

I'd like to say that I like the poem.

I'll also like to reply and post some not so overlooked song lyrics;)
Cool poem:D

First the most awesome of them all:D The cool one by Band Aid:)

Do They Know It's Christmas Time?

It's Christmastime, there's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime

But say a prayer, pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window, and it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

(Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone
(Here's to them) underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

U.S.A. for Africa.

We Are The World

There comes a time when we need a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all

We can't go on pretending day by day
That someone, somehow will soon make a change
We're all a part of God's great big family
And the truth - you know love is all we need

( CHORUS )
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Well, send'em you your heart
So they know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us
By turning stone to bread
And so we all must lend a helping hand

( REPEAT CHORUS )

When you're down and out
There seems no hope at all
But if you just believe
There's no way we can fall
Well, well, well, let's realize
That one change can only come
When we stand together as one

( REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE )

Good old Johnnie:)

Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now...

And Jimmy Cliff:)

Trapped

Well it seems like I'm caught up in your trap again
And it seems like I'll be wearin' the same ol' chains
Good will conquer evil and the truth will set you free
Then I know someday I'll find the key
Then I know somewhere I'll find the key
Well it seem like I've been playin' the game way too long
And it seems the game I played has made you strong
Well when the game is over, I won't walk out a loser
And I know that I'll walk out of here again
And I know that someday I'll walk out of here again

But now I'm trapped...Oh yeah!
Trapped...Oh yeah yeah!
Trapped...Oh yeah!
Trapped...Oh yeah!

Now it seems like I've been sleepin' in your bed too long
And it seems like you've been meanin' to do me harm
But I'll teach my eyes to see beyond these walls in front of me
And someday I'll walk out of here again
Yeah I know someday I'll walk out of here again

(Chorus)

Well it seem like I've been playin' the game way too long
And it seems the game I played has made you strong

Because I'm trapped...Oh yeah!
Trapped...Oh yeah yeah!
Trapped...Oh yeah yeah!
Trapped...Oh yeah!

I'm trapped...Oh yeah yeah!
Trapped...Oh yeah yeah
Trapped...Oh yeahhhhhh
Trapped....oh yeahhhh
I'm trapped.

And the brilliant Bob Dylan:D

Chimes Of Freedom

Far between sundown's finish an' midnight's broken toll
We ducked inside the doorway, thunder crashing
As majestic bells of bolts struck shadows in the sounds
Seeming to be the chimes of freedom flashing
Flashing for the warriors whose strength is not to fight
Flashing for the refugees on the unarmed road of flight
An' for each an' ev'ry underdog soldier in the night
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

In the city's melted furnace, unexpectedly we watched
With faces hidden while the walls were tightening
As the echo of the wedding bells before the blowin' rain
Dissolved into the bells of the lightning
Tolling for the rebel, tolling for the rake
Tolling for the luckless, the abandoned an' forsaked
Tolling for the outcast, burnin' constantly at stake
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Through the mad mystic hammering of the wild ripping hail
The sky cracked its poems in naked wonder
That the clinging of the church bells blew far into the breeze
Leaving only bells of lightning and its thunder
Striking for the gentle, striking for the kind
Striking for the guardians and protectors of the mind
An' the unpawned painter behind beyond his rightful time
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Through the wild cathedral evening the rain unraveled tales
For the disrobed faceless forms of no position
Tolling for the tongues with no place to bring their thoughts
All down in taken-for-granted situations
Tolling for the deaf an' blind, tolling for the mute
Tolling for the mistreated, mateless mother, the mistitled prostitute
For the misdemeanor outlaw, chased an' cheated by pursuit
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Even though a cloud's white curtain in a far-off corner flashed
An' the hypnotic splattered mist was slowly lifting
Electric light still struck like arrows, fired but for the ones
Condemned to drift or else be kept from drifting
Tolling for the searching ones, on their speechless, seeking trail
For the lonesome-hearted lovers with too personal a tale
An' for each unharmful, gentle soul misplaced inside a jail
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Starry-eyed an' laughing as I recall when we were caught
Trapped by no track of hours for they hanged suspended
As we listened one last time an' we watched with one last look
Spellbound an' swallowed 'til the tolling ended
Tolling for the aching ones whose wounds cannot be nursed
For the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones an' worse
An' for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

And last but not least The BOSS:D

Land Of Hope And Dreams

Grab your ticket and your suitcase
Thunder's rolling down the tracks
You don't know where you're goin'
But you know you won't be back
Darlin' if you're weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We'll take what we can carry
And we'll leave the rest

Big Wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

I will provide for you
And I'll stand by your side
You'll need a good companion for
This part of the ride
Leave behind your sorrows
Let this day be the last
Tomorrow there'll be sunshine
And all this darkness past

Big wheels roll through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

This train
Carries saints and sinners
This train
Carries losers and winners
This Train
Carries whores and gamblers
This Train
Carries lost souls
This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
Bells of freedom ringin'
This Train
Carries broken-hearted
This Train
Thieves and sweet souls departed
This Train
Carries fools and kings
This Train
All aboard

This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
Bells of freedom ringin'

Wow!

The one by "The Boss" really touchs home and heart.

Think "The Boss" could be a friend of (like)"mind" too.

I love the messages some of these songs are sending throughout the world!

Hi!

Thanks all for the wonderful responses. You see, this is kinda the purpose of "Dance!Sing!Fun!" a 2002 world-wide children's charities event.

To bring people together, get them thinking about the children and all the others needing help. We often become so self-centered we forget there is a world of wonderful people out there. But, in my opinion, no child should ever have to be a slave....:(

I'll share with you all here something I'm writing. It's about the Music making the World a little better place.
FYI: The circle encompasses the globe. The words are simple (for translation purposes) but the meaning is strong.

THE MUSIC

The Music surrounds us, it’s all over the lands.
If our hearts could fly, and notes all had wings,
The skies would be filled with such wondrous of things.

The sound of the Music, it’s all over the lands.
We’ll dance in a circle as We’re all holding hands.

The Love’s in the Music, it’s all over the lands.
We’ll stop what we’re doing, and in Peace and Love stand.

We’ll embrace for tomorrow, what we feel here today,
To hold it close to us, Never hide it away.

The Music surrounds us, it’s all over the lands.
If our hearts could fly, and notes all had wings,
The skies would be filled with such wondrous of things.

The Children sing Music all over the world,
Their words are so special, it’s our future they hold.

The World and the Music join voices to sing,
To make it a better place, for you and for me.

The words may sound different, the message’s the same,
Set aside your differences, let Love and Peace reign.

The Music surrounds us, it’s all over the lands.
If our hearts could fly, and notes all had wings,
The skies would be filled with such wondrous of things.

Hi!

I just wanted to let everyone know that the United Nations will be holding a Special Session on Children from September 19-21. It will review the goals set a the last conference in 1990 and assess what new commitments should be.

I was kinda sad when I read some of the statistics at the UNICEF website for the conference. "Roughly 60 million children are exploited in the worst forms of child labor. Some 120 million work fulltime, many of them for nine or more hours a day. Almost 80 percent of them earn no money at all for their labor. None of these children are able to attend school. Still another one million children every year are pulled into the multi-billion dollar commercial sex trade. They are coerced, "bonded", by debt, sold, or simply kidnapped." http://www.gmfc.org//en/stop/learnmore_html
